Owner description: The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic houses one of the world's largest collections of items relating to witchcraft, the occult and magic. With over 3000 objects, a wise woman's cottage, a herb garden and a shrine it is a memorable place. It has been in the picturesque Cornish coastal village of Boscastle since 1961 and is one of Cornwall's most popular museums rated highly on TripAdvisor. The Museum intrigues visitors with its collections of charms, curses, herbs and healing and sea witchcraft. Some of our most popular items are magical tools such as glass knitting needles, objects which were used for scrying such as black mirrors, crystals and crystal balls and our collection of protection talismans made by soldiers in the trenches of World War One. The Museum also has an extensive library with other 7000 books and an archive of documents which can be viewed online or visited by appointment.

“Creepy, but not in a good way”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

We expected it to be about the history of witchcraft and witches, but it went a little too heavy on the devil-worship stuff, and we left feeling more disturbed than informed.

I am sorry that the museum was not what you expected, but wonder how you managed to miss all the exhibits that demonstrate the history of witchcraft. The museum exhibitions include all aspects of witchcraft including a very small display of devil worship and Satanism. By far the greater part of the museum shows herbalism and healing, Christian magic, witch persecution, spells and charms, ritual magic, modern witchcraft, etc.
Our visitors are sometimes disturbed by the list of witches that were executed or by discovering that witchcraft is still practiced but that is why we exist –to educate and inform.

“interesting and informative”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We recently visited and found it to be very interested and informative. We initially visited because my 9yr old son wanted to but the whole family enjoyed the visit. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Just to be warned there are some images (slightly sexual) that may be interesting to explain to younger children but they are tasteful and easy to skim over if necessary. I would like to stress that they are related images and nothing sordid.

overall very interesting and definitely worth a visit

“Interesting and Different”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

The museum is really interesting and has several very good displays. It covers a wide range of witchcraft and pagan topics and while initially giving the impression of "clutter" the displays soon show themselves rich and informative.

A large portion of the collection is upstairs, but visitors with mobility issues can still see a number of informative displays downstairs (and view the downstairs for free as well).

The staff are helpful and there is also a small gift shop area. All in all, it is a must see if in the area.
