“Fabluous family run hotel”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

A fabulous family-run hotel. Highly recommended. Our hosts greeted us at the front door and immediately picked up our bags and offered us a welcome drink. We were given the all important tour of the property and promptly arrived at our room where our bags were waiting for us. The room was tastefully decorated and of good size. The bathroom was spotless and even had underfloor heating. As we were travelling with two small boys, the room had been set up with excellent fold-away beds for the children. The owners live in the attached property and leave the guests in peace to enjoy the run of the hotel (though bells are provided to call for any needs !). The bar is run on an honesty basis and had a great selection of wines, ales and spirits and most importantly several Cornish beers. The many cupboards hid away board games for all ages and there was a cupboard with childrens toys too. Breakfast was provided in an lovely dining room with views of the North Cornish coutryside. The choice was substantial and the "full cornish" breakfast was heartily received and set us up for the next leg of our journey. One of the best family run hotels we've stayed in. Highly recommended

We spent 5 nights at Pendragon Country House and enjoyed our stay very much. We are a family from Germany with two children ( 12 and 16) and had two wonderful rooms. The rooms were comfortabel with very beautiful furniture. We especially enjoyed the familiar atmosphere. Sharon and Nigel are very nice hosts and do everything to make their guests feel like at home.
Our children enjoyed the friendlyness, the charming room, the excellent breakfast (like ourselves) and of course the pool billiard in the basement. We will surely come back and recommend Pendragon Country House our friends, who plan a holiday in Great Britain.

Room Tip: The king size room is great

I had an overnight stay here after reading previous glowing reports and can only say that it's even better than I expected. On arrival you're greeted extremely warmly, given tea and biscuits in one of the two very comfy, welcoming lounges and then a tour of all the facilities while your bag is taken to your room. After a long journey this relaxed welcome is just what you need to make you feel at home, and this seems to be the philosophy behind Pendragon House; that you're at home. Relaxation and friendliness are the key.
It's an old Country house so the style is old-fashioned and classical. The rooms are not huge but have everything you need, with extremely comfy beds, and if you're lucky enough to get the single room you can sleep in a four poster bed. (sadly it was booked when I visited but they gave me a good discount on a double room) And it was great to stay somewhere with thick, heavy curtains so you're not woken up at the crack of dawn by light streaming through wafer- thin blinds.
And this is the first place I've ever stayed where, in addition to tea and coffee in my room, there was also a delicious piece of homemade cake and a little decanter of sherry for a pre-dinner drink!! You feel thoroughly spoilt. And the freebie bathroom goodies are from the local St Kitts Herbery and a cut above the normal watery shower gel and shampoo you normally get in hotels.
However the best thing for the single traveller is the evening if you stay for dinner (and I recommend it as the food is amazing!) Guests are encouraged to sit together in the beautiful Orangery dining room so it's a great way to meet other people and socialise over dinner. This continues into the evening as coffee is taken into the lounge and you can laze about on the comfy chairs and sofa and chat for hours, with a drink from the honesty bar if you fancy it. When you meet again for breakfast the next day you feel like you're all old friends. And the breakfast! Delicious!! As with dinner all the food is locally sourced or home-made and superb quality.
Nigel and Sharon, the owners, are young, chatty and fun, and instead of that solitary feeling you can sometimes get if you're a solo traveller in a hotel, you leave Pendragon House feeling like you've just had a great stay with friends in their home. I can't wait until my next visit!

We had 6 nights here in August 2012 and it was lovely. The 5th star is probably for the food, which is top class and prepared with passion. However, you could give all 5 stars for the warmth of the welcome and the desire to please - it is like being in a home from home, but with a high quality staff available to look after every need!! A definition of relaxation and pleasure.

We were impressed by the welcoming email and then a call on the day of arrival to check upon dietary likes. We arrived early to a very warm welcome( tea and home made biscuits ) and our bags magically appeared in our room whilst we were shown around the house. A lovely supper that was beautifully presented followed a drink from the honesty bar after we had sipped our complimentary sherry and eaten the thoughful fudge . A short stroll around the gardens saw us ready for a good sleep in the very comfortable bed. We made ourselves coffee in the cafetiere on waking with fresh milk from the fridge then had breakfast. The sausages were voted best whi ilst the pendragon rarebit was the tastiest breakfast in years. this is a beautiful small hotel.
