“Overnight stay with golf”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

As a married couple, we have enjoyed many regular stays at this golfing resort and hotel. Despite the weather, the course was as always in fairly good condition for the time of year. However, this year we realised how tired the hotel room was. It was definitely in need of updating and the window was needing some repair or replacement as there was misting, peeling paint and black mould caused by condensation. The room appeared to be set up for only one person as there was only one hand and bath towel plus one small bottle of water and pack of biscuits, where normally there are two. In the bathroom there was also one tiny bottle of shower gel between the two of us. The beds were obviously 2 single pushed together to make a double as my husbands side had a mattress with bad springs so he felt like he was sleeping on the base. The bar food had gone up dramatically in price for what you got. My husband had the burger which consisted of 2, over cooked shopped bought, thin burgers. I was looking forward to a lovely warming pud, but the only things on the menu were small deserts, that we're more like summer puddings. The young girl behind the bar did a brilliant job, where the others seemed to be hovering in the kitchen doorway talking loudly and not being very helpful. As always, the breakfast was good, although we now have to help ourselves to tea and coffee. The service from the woman that seems to have been doing breakfast service there for as long as we have been going was as friendly and attentive as always. The original manger seemed to be not there anymore and the change was noticeable after staying at Bowood every year for the last 5 years. We've decided sadly that as much as we like the golf course we won't be staying anymore.

Went for an overnight stay on route to family. Very reasonably priced.
Friendly welcome from the chap on reception who informed us of a function which was going on and if room noisy he offered to move us, but didn't prove a problem. Resturant closed due to function and bar meals not great, tables sticky and bar area a bit tired.
Basic room which smelt a bit musty and in need of a good airing, but spotless bedding, very small telly for size of room. Double bed was 2 singles pushed together and not terribly comfortable.
Noisy Plumbing and tepid bathwater which was still tepid in the morning.
Breakfast very nice though coffee not great. Probably wouldn't stay again.

This was our 2nd trip to Bowood park first time last year we went with a party of 4 golfers returned this year with a party of 8 golfers, The course was great as was the hotel, service was superb most of the staff were still there from our first visit and remembered us. Food was very good. For the package we had I think this will take a lot of beating, unlike a lot of golf courses there was no stuffiness in the bar or restaurant and the staff and management were excellent looking forward to our next visit. Had to write to tell everyone about the superb wedding we had at Bowood on Sat 28th September.
Leading up to the event Bowood and especially Nigel the manager were superb in helping arrange everything, leaving no stone unturned. The day itself was unbelievable ! The restaurant was decorated out superbly, the food for the main reception truly fantastic, and the evening buffet went on forever. Throughout the staff were excellent in both the restaurant and the bar.
If you are looking for a wedding venue then this is the place. A quite fantastic day, thank you Nigel and Bowood.

Stayed here on business, when I arrived late the hotel does look impressive all lit up, however that impression soon changed upon entering. The reception area was very small and quite dated, however the gentleman checking me in was very polite and efficient. The room I had on the second floor was very basic indeed, the walls were bare and it was not furnished very well. My "double" bed turned out to be 2 single beds pushed together, so there was a very hard ridge running right the way down the middle of the bed. The pillows were like sleeping on concrete slabs, and I could hear everything going on in the room next door, so all in all I did not have a good night sleep at all. The breakfast buffet was very nice, but that could not make up for the lack of and uncomfortable night i had endured.

We have stayed here twice. Both times we have been satisfied with the food, the room, and the staff. The room rate is reasonable and what you get is good. The food in the restaurant is very good, ditto self service breakfast. There are no lifts, the rooms are a bit basic, the telly is a bit small, and our bathroom a bit whiffy.....but you are not paying city prices and guests should not expect Bowood to be something it's not. The staff were excellent; helpful, friendly, chatty. Just wish the waiting staff wouldn't refer to everyone as 'you guys'. 'Everything OK guys' etc. A pet hate of mine I do admit. But on the whole, well done Bowood. You're doing a good job.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the front overlooking the golf course for the views, and sun in the afternoon.

Booked this hotel on short notice. Really pleased with the outcome. Reception was quick and helpful. Our room was very clean and tidy and also very comfortable. The Breakfasts were plentiful and very good as was the bar food at night with different specials every night. We decided to dine there every night during our 5 night stay and had a different meal each night
and were a delight. Found it a change to stay in a hotel where ALL the staff had a smile on their faces and were very helpful..... Thank you for a most enjoyable stay

Room Tip: All rooms as far as I could tell overlook the course but rooms to the front will have better views a...
