“Great value holiday.”
Reviewed 16 August 2012

We had a fantastic week here (21-28 July 2012). Chalet basic but spotless and bedding freshly laundered and whiter than white! The sun lounge/middle bit in chalet was great use of space - loads of drying room for beach stuff, and really pleasant to sit in too. Loved that site not over commercialised - just a v friendly, family run site with some entertainment but not overboard. Location could not be bettered - few minutes down to the beach, where we spent most days as the weather was fantastic the whole week. Would def recommend to anyone, and v much hope to come again in the future.

Had another great holiday back in June (haven't been on here for a while). Shame about the weather but that's what holidaying in England is all about. Children enjoyed many a cloudy day on the beach which is a stone throw away from the chalet. Went with family booking three chalets on the front each having a wonderful view of the sea and the children were able to play out without the worry of cars. Good to see the chalets are slowly being modernized with new TVs and lodges being built. Looking forward to our next visit.

Just got home from 2 weeks here. The location is superb, Hayle beach is 3 miles of wide, soft, clean sand, very shallow for paddling, or swimming if you dare - it's cold! The holiday park is right next to the beach (but it is a *very* steep climb back up to the park, not suitable for pushchairs, or people with limited mobility). It's friendly, non-commercialised and offers the basics in terms of pool, playground, shop and bar, but it's not somewhere to go if you expect entertainment laid on. It's away from the town so really quiet at night, family friendly and we had some lovely evenings on our terrace watching the sunset. Lots of adventures to be had in the dunes and loads of space for everyone.

The reason I have not scored this park any higher is because the accommodation is in desperate need of a refurb - none of the other negative reviews have surprised me in this respect. We stayed in a lodge - top of the range apparently and over £800 a week so I expected a much better standard of decor and fixtures. The beds were worn out, very uncomfortable mattresses on the bunks, cheap lumpy pillows and like the other reviewer said there was other people's HAIR on the velour headboard - ewwww! Just get rid of them, I'd rather have no headboard at all than a manky old velour one covered in hair! The bathroom smelled of damp, the bedroom furniture had loose handles, lamps had broken shades, just very disappointing for the price. As we were unlucky enough to have over a week of rain during our stay, we didn't get to spend as much time on the beach as I would have liked, and it would have alleviated some of those cold wet evenings if there had been a DVD player available to keep the kids quiet, or a DVD show for kids in the bar.

It's a lovely part of the country, a beautiful location and a great safe place for families to take a holiday but the accommodation seriously needs bringing up to standard. It would be an investment worth making for the owners - I'd even come in November or February if I knew could look forward to staying in a cosy, comfortable and clean lodge. Some attention to improving the 'Home from Home' aspect would work wonders here.

Room Tip: Chalets are terraced so not very private; bungalows and lodges are detached

Thank you for your review. I am glad you had a good stay with us and we indeed concentrate on family holidays at Beachside. As you mention, we are also less commercialised than some of the larger sites, and we find this is one of the reasons our regular customers return to Beachside. During the school holidays we do offer entertainment in the bar 4 nights a week and activities for children 2 nights a week.

We will take your comments on board concerning the décor in the lodges when we come to our annual redecoration and refurbishment programme. I apologise for the broken lamp shade and loose door handles, this should not have been the case. I agree that a DVD player would be a welcome addition to the lodges and this is something we already offer in our newer seafront lodges.

We have a continual re-investment programme at Beachside and over the last couple of years have improved many aspects of our accommodation including new beds and mattresses, new sofas, new bedroom furniture, new TVs, new living room furniture and new doors and windows. This reinvestment will continue as we look to make more upgrades every year. Thank you for your comments.

We visited the beach-side holiday park in summer 2011, and we expecting quality for the money we payed, however we were slightly let down, the park itself is really nice and in a superb position right beside the beach, however the lodge we stayed in wasn't very clean, and you could tell that the cleaners didn't put much effort into cleaning our room, the sofas were covered in crumbs and dust from the family in before us. Also, the chalets did not look very good either, and looked very cramped together, we were glad we chose to stay in a lodge.
But after our bad first impression, there was not much else to complain about, the staff at reception were helpful, and gave us a map of the local area, and were keen to help whenever we had a problem. The onsite swimming pool was OK for a quick dip but nothing special, and the games area looked quite good for kids.
The town of Hayle itself was nothing special, but had some great fish and chip restaurants, the best area to visit, in my opinion, was the town of St. Ives, it had a lovely seafront, and some great shops and restaurants.
The best part of the holiday was the sand dunes and beach that was a 5 minute walk from our lodge, we had a few great days on the beach, and on a couple of days there were fireworks displays at night that were great to watch from the beach.

Room Tip: Choose a lodge on the higher ground (you get a lovely view)

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your holiday and could join us for our 50th Anniversary firework celebrations last year. I was sorry to hear that you felt the cleaning was not as good as it could have been. Whilst this should not have been missed in the first place, we would have quickly rectified this for you if you had mentioned it to us at reception. We hope to see you at Beachside again in the future.

So due to a leaking tent we are able to review both the touring pitches and the chalets! The park itself is quiet and very family friendly. The pool was warm and generally quiet. More importantly the beach is a short but steep walk away. It is gorgeous and clean and never seemed to get busy. Take wetsuits and bodyboards for those old enough to use. The sea can get a bit rough for toddlers paddling but is great for older children/ teenagers.

First off the tent pitches. We were a bit disappointed with the pitch. Despite asking for a pitch near the toilet block ( Have 3 children under 8 and no toilet in our tent) we were quite a way away. The toilet block itself was small but clean. in some cubicles the door wouldn't open fully in the ladies as it got stuck on the toilet seat. fine if you're by yourself but a bit tricky if you're trying to squeeze in with a reluctant toddler. Be warned that pitches furthest away from the sea are near overhead power lines and that these " hum" ..... and they can seem very loud overnight! Some of the pitches nearer the beach though were really big and flatter than those closer to the entrance.

Once our tent started leaking whoever my husband spoke to on reception was very helpful and found us a chalet to stay in.... more money obviously but better than having to find a b and b or go home early. The chalets were a pleasant surprise. After reading reviews on here I wasn't expecting much. However they were clean and comfortable... even with a telly to watch the Olympics on! There is no microwave or toaster but an electric oven/ hob with grill and small under counter fridge with freezer box. An open plan living area at the front opened out onto a covered sun room area behind- great for leaving beach gear out in/ drying clothes. Bedrooms then are off this sun room at the back. If we went back to the area we would probably get a chalet rather than trying to camp........ they seem really good value for money compared to the pitches with more drying room for beach kit.

All in all good site let down by touring toilet/ shower block

Thank you very much for your review and I am glad you had a good stay at Beachside.

I am sorry that your pitch was further from the toilet block than you would have liked. Most of our pitches for this time of year are booked about a year in advance, and so we would have done our best to find you a close pitch, but the closest ones are always the first to book up. The power lines do make a slight hum, but only during thick fog or mist. The electricity company is also in the process of upgrading the nearby pylon to reduce this noise. Thank you for your comments about the toilet and shower block – we will take these into consideration when planning our winter refurbishment work.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay in one of our chalets and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

The location is great being a short (albeit steep) walk to the beach which is huge, really sandy and clean. The park is understated:
* no indoor swimming pool, but the outdoor one is a decent temperature and supervised
* pitiful game room -GREAT to teach the kids not to waste time and money there
* no red-blue-whatever jacketed youngsters failing to entertain the kids, but two early evening 2-hour supervised play which was useful to us and enjoyed by the kids
* the playgrounds are sad and borderline unsafe (gravel under swings), but the vast and soft grassy field at the cliff end of the site is invaluable to get the kids out and play
* old chalets with uneven tiles in the patio – this helped the kids understanding I am not crazy when I ask them to wear their shoes to avoid getting hurt, especially after visiting Penzance’s A&E with a split toe
With limited experience of holidaying in the UK, I found this great in comparison with a camping chain we used previously. The chalet offered a lot more space (about double) for a lot less money, and it even had a working TV with freeview which we did not enjoy in the previous 2 years. The best feature was the sun room (despite toe accident) as clothes actually dried from one day to the next, and all the neighbours were considerate enough to not have BBQs or smoke in theirs. This is the ideal place for a family with kids that want a little bit more space than in a caravan and less fuss than at chain campsites. Additional good point is being a short walk away from a German supermarket, so you do not have to take all your favourites from home.

Thank you for your review – I am glad you enjoyed your stay in one of our chalets. We are certainly very lucky to have such a nice beach right on our doorstep.

We are a family-run holiday park and pride ourselves on being less commercialised than a lot of the larger operators. We specialise in relaxing family holidays, and this one of the reasons why so many guests return to us year after year.

I was surprised to hear that you had some concerns about our playgrounds. They are certainly not unsafe – they are inspected daily to ensure that they always remain safe. However, we will see if any improvements can be made when we come to our winter maintenance schedule.

The covered patio in our chalets is useful for drying and storing beach goods, but smoking and barbecues are not permitted in these areas, so you should never experience this problem from your neighbours.

I am glad that you enjoyed your holiday overall and we hope to welcome you back to Beachside in the near future.

I have just got back from my 5th holiday to beachside. My family and 4 other families, all with kids have enjoyed the site for many years. The brilliant beach is a short walk from the chalets through the sand dunes. The sea is crystal clear and amazingly clean.
For the kids, the heated pool and games room keeps them occupied for hours. The sand dunes are also a giant playground to run around it.
The shop has everything you need in it, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return to the beautiful site next summer!
