We stayed here in July for 5 nights. The room we had overlooked the estuary and was very nice although quite small.

The gardens were lovely was a bit disappointed with the laid back attitude and presentation of the staff. They were friendly to a point but they need to take some lessons in presentation. They all looked like they'd gotten dressed in a hurry or would rather have been somewhere else. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. Some days very quick then other days slower than a wet week and for no apparent reason. And they have a seemingly pointless system of asking you what you want for breakfast the minute you check in, then paying no attention to your request when you do go in for breakfast.

A good selection of local beers and wine but the bar area really needs a rethink. There are too many eating tables in there so if you just wanted to go for a drink with a group there are really only a few couches right in the middle of the room you could use. It would be better if they moved the diners out to the restaurant completely and leave the bar to social groups having a drink.

Overall it's not bad. It's in a lovely spot but I think it's over-priced and they need to lift their game a bit, given that the summer season is so short. They could do so much more with the place.

Room Tip: A room facing the estuary so you can watch the birds and the tide coming in and out.

It was a delight to return to an old haunt and find it in safe hands once again. From booking with Margaret at the telephone to our departure for a flight to the Isles of Scilly we were well looked after and totally satisfied. The "garden lodges" work well, providing a quiet retreat from the main bar/restaurant and ours was delightfully decorated and well equipped. The food is "gastro-pub" style but with the option of staying in the bar or moving to a really nice conservatory styled area. An excellent breakfast, with no delays, so ideal for travellers moving on. Highly recommended for bird watchers as the tide brings the estuary birds right up to your room and there is a full day of excellent birding within easy walking distance. A very easy place to like. If you don't need a room then still worth popping in for a morning coffee or lunch.

Return visitors after some time since our last visit, we were pleasantly surprised by the new broom approach to almost everything. The staff were helpful, polite and friendly and the refitted rooms fresh and modern. The grounds were very tidy and orderly and the restaurant/breakfast room was spacious and clean. The evening menu was a little plain but that is the only criticism if you discount the lady owners insistence on repeating your previous days breakfast order if you have not amended. How many full English breakfasts can you eat! The views from the rooms with estuary facing patios are stunning, and eerie migrating bird calls late at night just add to the experience. Overall 10/10

Room Tip: The sole estuary facing room with large private patio, although the shared still have the same view.

Lovely room and friendly hosts,
Stayed here for one night, we stayed in one of the rooms overlooking the estuary, beautiful outlook, very clean rooms, lovely hotel, Trevor the boss, was very helpful and friendly.
Food was good, waitresses were busy when we came, but they were still attentive and helpful,
Bit out of the way for main part of St Ives, so you will need a taxi or use the park and ride, which isn't that far.

Cannot fault "The Old Quay House" absolutely spotless accomodation, we had two rooms for our family of 5! Both rooms had ensuite spotless bathrooms, very comfortable beds, nice spacious rooms, towells were provided and changed daily which was very nice. All in all Trevor and Margaret were fab hosts who saved us in our hour of need when our original holiday destination in a nearby park fell very short of our expectation of cleanliness and anywhere near acceptable holiday home standard!!!!! Thank you so much for saving our holiday! Very pretty garden overlooking the estuary ideal play area for our 9 year old and all of us enjoyed a superb meal in the restaurant, very friendly staff and all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend! Another big plus is the ample parking and only a short walk to the nearby train stn where you can hop on and arrive in St. Ives enjoying the beautiful coastline on route.

Room Tip: rooms are available which look out over the estuary great for any bird watching fanatics or equally...

We needed accomodation for our family to attend a family funeral. We had stayed here before under the old management and were a bit reluctant to return. We are so glad we returned, what a transformation. When I booked, Margaret could not have been more helpful as we were unsure of numbers. The rooms were spotless and very good showers. The staff at breakfast were attentive but not 'in your face'. They have obviously spent a great deal of time, effort and money in improving the whole property.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience at a difficult time.
Please, if you have been there under the old management and were disappointed, give them another try, you will not believe the transformation.

Room Tip: Room 6 has a 'private' deck overlooking the water.

we made this booking 'ad-hoc' so our comments are based on paying the full prices for the accommodation compared with the rest of our stay at travel-zoo deals. Overall an attractive option for getting to St Ives as its a pleasant 10 minute train journey away which you can walk to from this venue.
staff were really helpful and friendly and food good value.....However...at £120 a night for B&B its was expensive. With deals out there for half this included evening meals......we want to get a travelzoo deal before we stayed again.

great for bird watchers being right on the estuary and a real home feel

Room Tip: look out for the deals......
