Mandeley Guest House
Ranked #9 of 38 Helston B&B and Inns
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Birgitt's B&B is everything you could wish for. The rooms are large, the bathrooms are spacious and all the fixtures seem brand new. The shower -- ah, the shower: VERY large.

Helston, by-the-way, is an excellent location from which to explore the shore of Cornwall.

And then there is Birgitt's dog. If Murphey-the-Pup doesn't cause you to fall in love again then you've a heart of stone.

We've stayed in a lot of B&B's around the world. Mandeley Guest House is among the best!

We found this little gem of a guest house on the internet and stayed for 3 nights in the very modern and clean Jamaica Inn room, the en-suite again is very modern and clean.
We were greeted by Paul on arrival who showed us the room and the door we used for coming and going, he made us feel most welcome and a quick chat about motorbikes.
Birgitt makes a 1st class breakfast and again is very easy to talk with and makes you feels welcome.
The side door to come and go without feeling you are disturbing the owners is a great.
I would highly recommend Mandeley House for people looking to stay in the area.

We have just returned from a few days in Cornwall. The last two nights were spent at the Mandeley Guest House. We wished we could have stayed longer. We were greeted so warmly on our arrival and shown to our room - Jamaica Inn. It was so beautiful, modern, spotlessly clean, pristine bedding and the attention to detail was outstanding. The Dining Room was amazing with an excellent selection of cereals, yoghurts, orange juice and a full English Breakfast to satisfy the most hungry traveller. Mandeley is certainly a quality B & B and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

Lovely welcome without being overfussy. Room and en suite as good as top London hotels I've stayed in and cleanliness was exceptional. Tea/coffe making facilities and biscuits provded. Easy, flat access to separate guest entrance. Good choice at breakfast and full English breakfast cooked to perfection and not rushed. Mandeley has the Daphne du Maurier theme and each room bears the name of one of her books which is provided in the room of the same name for guests to read. The Guest house is close to Tesco superstore and petrol station and so is easily identified and convenient. Helston is central for touring all parts of Cornwall - Newquay to the Eden Project and anything in between. Birgi tt was the perfect hostess and gave advice about places to visit and eat. I would recommend this guest house to anyone, you will not be disappointed.

I stayed at the lovely Mandeley Guest house with my boyfriend, his mum and her partner for two nights at the begining of July this year.
From the moment we arrived to when we left, we loved everything about this guest house, first of all it was easy to find (opposite the tesco) and everything we wanted was not far away. The purpose of our stay was to visit my boyfriend at RNAS Culdrose, which it was just down the road.
The room we stayed in was the Jamaica Inn, their room was Rebecca. Both rooms were spotlessly clean, had everything you need and the modern bathrooms with lovely showers were a bonus, however our bathroom was bigger.
Apart from how clean this guest house was, the best thing about it was that you had a good mixture of having your own privacy as well as having the lovely Birgitt on hand if you needed her. Basically, you were given two keys, one for your bedroom and another for the side entrance to the house. This was brilliant idea as when Ive stayed in b+bs before I have fet like I was disturbing the owners coming in and out of the building but here was perfect!
Birgitt also has a brilliant memory! I mentioned what I didnt want on my breakfast just after we arrived and the next day my breakfast was exactly what I ordered and cooked perfectly!!!
I will, without a doubt, be visiting Birgitt (and my boyfriend) in Helston again!!

Room Tip: The Jamaica Inn room is bigger than Rebecca, however the people who checked in before us took The Fr...

Thank you very much for your lovely review. The Jamaica Inn room and the Frenchman's Creek room are more or less equal in size. However, the Frenchman's Creek bedroom as the bigger en-suite facility with a large walk in shower. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Kind regards, Birgitt & Paul

Used the Mandeley as a base to tour the Lizard and Marazion areas for which it is perfect (and very close to Porthleven as well as Tesco!).
We spent 4 nights in the Frenchman's Creek room which was 5* and spotlessly clean.
Apart from the fact that Birgitt was a magnificent hostess (nothing being too much trouble) she also provides a delightful breakfast experience and an introduction to the books of Du Maurier! Ab fab and highly recommended!!

Room Tip: We had a choice of the three and all were equally good. Chose this one because of the shower and la...

Hello there. Thank you very much for your lovely comments and taking the time to write this review. We really appreciate your effort.

Frenchman's Creek has the largest bathroom with a spacious walk in shower. The room itself is set up usually as a twin bedded room but depending on booking the beds can be interconnected to make a super king size bed.

Kind regards, Birgitt & Paul

As we arrived, Birgitt came out to welcome us at this lovely B&B, which fully lived up to expectations. This was an excellent place to stay. The house is within walking distance of the town centre, Tesco and bus stops and guests have their own private entrance and sitting room. The bedroom and bathroom were of an impeccable standard and the breakfast excellent. There is also a selection of guides/books on the area, which were helpful. Each room is named after a Daphne Du Maurier novel and the relevant book is placed in each room. We had the Frenchman's Creek room - strange as this is one of our favourite books! We will return!
