Shippen cottage is a spacious delight. Set in woodland with a couple of other cottages around it is a real idyll. I spent a week there between jobs when I was looking for somewhere peaceful to study. I loved the open space and the balcony style bedroom. The grounds of Tresarran are beautiful with walks in the woods a real peaceful treat. You feel like you are the only person on earth. There is wifi if you don't want to "get away from it all". There is a wood burner in the cottage but as I was on my own I didn't give it a go - though if (when) I return with my family I will try it out.
We have used Tresarren cottages twice when visiting family in Cornwall. The Shippen has bags of character and is in a beautiful setting. The cottage has everything you need for a self catering break. The mezzanine bedroom is great and very spacious. The wood burner is a lovely feature and even though we visited in early March, the cottage was always warm!
Faye and Mark are very helpful and always sort anything you need. If you have children it is a great place to stay, the grounds are lovely, our 18 month old loved running around and meeting their children!
We can't recommend highly enough and can't wait to get down to Cornwall and stay again!
We wanted a quiet long weekend away with our 2 dogs and we got just that. We would recommend Tresarren cottages to anyone looking for a tranquil quiet location to stay in Cornwall. We arrived in Herodsfoot a quaint little hamlet 20 minutes from St Austell.
Tresarren Farm has several rental properties which were once farm buildings. the river runs through the property and it was lovely to sit and listen to the water as it went on its way down to the coast. Surrounded by forest , we also had the birds to listen to including owls at night.
We stayed in Shippen cottage a 2 bedroomed cottage. There was an information folder waiting in the property which told us everything we needed to know. There is an open plan lounge and kitchen . The Lounge has a log burner which kept us cozy at night and a well equipped kitchen. A twin room is just off the kitchen and to the corner of the lounge is a bathroom with bath and shower. The double room was on a mezzanine floor overlooking the lounge. The roof has beams and gives a lovely cottage feel to the place. There is plenty of lawned areas outside which is ideal for children to play in safety. There is also a room at the end of shippen cottage that has a washing machine and the use of a freezer. Forest walks are right on the doorstep if you want a casual walk and a nearby deer park that has several walks and a coffee shop. The nearest shop is 10 minutes drive into Dobwalls or if you want larger shops these can be found in Liskeard ( 20 mins drive ) .
We had Sunday lunch at " The Plough Inn " at Duloe . A beautiful meal and would recommend you try it if you're in the area.
Although we did not meet the owners as they were away on our arrival they made sure we were welcomed by a neighbour who lived in the hamlet and on their return although we made efforts to say hello kept missing each other but we never felt neglected as we kept in contact via facebook.
We left feeling relaxed and de stressed. A real gem of a find and we will definitely be going back a some point.
We had a fantastic stay at Shippen Cottage. The children had plenty to entertain them outside and we found the place truly relaxing. Going to sleep listening to owls is unbeatable.
Faye and Mark were very attentive but not overly, and the welcome pack was super.
This cottage is very pretty and a genuinely old and traditional building inside and out.
The location is stunning and there are forest walks on site that are private to guests staying at the cottage. You can spot deer in the grounds, we saw some briefly run across the top of a field from the forest!
Wifi and phone service are very limited in the immediate area.
We appreciated the peace, I enjoyed reading newspapers and watching the news on TV -made a change to doing everything via phone!
We found the peaceful area and grass outside great as children played games inside and outside in a private/safe environment which they loved!
Adults can sit outside with a glass of chilled wine or cider at the picnic tables, and/or the family can dine al fresco, this cottage gets the last of the sun evening sun!
There is a mezzanine level with the double bed, and the children's room is downstairs on the ground level next to the kitchen and living room.
There's a bathroom down a few steps from the large living room.
Kitchen is well equipped and facilities are great and capable of cooking a family meal no problem.
I think it's very good value here and a bit of a hidden gem.
Only a short drive to Looe and Liskaerd as well as lots of small beaches and places of interest.
Tip- Contact the friendly owner Fay direct from their website for the best prices.
We hope to go back and would recommend it for a week holiday or a short break.
We stayed for 3 days in Shippen Cottage. We were met with a very warm welcome from both Faye and Mark who were delightful and really helpful with recommendations on what to do locally. The accommodation was lovely, tastefully decorated and had everything you needed for a self-catering holiday. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was lovely and clean. There are gorgeous walks on the property and surrounding area and it is so close to everything, we visited the Eden project and spent some time at the beach while we were there.
