“Great location, a few niggles but worth a try”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014

We were looking for somewhere a bit special for a week away in early spring. Having already decided on Cornwall the forest cabins website lured us in with their beautiful looking cabins and hot tubs!

When we arrived we were slightly surprised by how close the cabins are to each other, especially when a good 25% - 30% of the exterior is made of clear glass. However, we soon discovered that good curtains and the thought out decking area screening meant that we never felt too exposed.

The cabin itself would sleep six, but there was only one parking bay and not much room else where to park on site. There was only two of us for our stay so this was not a problem but could be an issue for a larger family or party.

Cleanliness was not great in the cabin, the bathrooms could do with a good clean and hoover and fixtures like toilet roll holders were hanging off the wall and being held on by the tips of the securing screws. We also decided to wash all the crockery, cutlery glasses and cooking equipment as some of this was not clean either.

The overall design and layout of the cabins is fantastic. It was nice and warm too with plenty of electric heaters. The hot tub was great also. A good quality cover is provided and daily inspections were performed everyday. It would be interesting to know how often the water is changed however!

There was no mobile signal (three of vodafone) on site as you are down in a small valley, this was not a problem as this was a holiday to get away from it all. However, the website detailed that free wifi was available which to be honest we expected to be available in the cabins. This was not the case though and was only available in the reception area at the other end of the site.

It is great that they allow dogs to stay but at £10 per night per dog we felt this was highly overpriced - particularly as the cabin cleanliness was not up to scratch before any dogs arrived! Both ourselves and our neighbours would have liked to have brought our other dogs if it were not for the cost. Perhaps this was the idea behind their pricing strategy!

Overall we enjoyed our stay and nightly hot tub sessions on the decking by the lake. It's not the secluded cabin getaway that the website might suggest but the setting is fairly peaceful with plenty of ducks, fish and geese around the lake to add a touch of wildlife to your stay.

We stayed I'm the Golden Oak Lodge with Tree house

The Huge lodge twas very homely with huge kitchen dining area, 3 bedrooms in the main lodge( on double and twin rooms). There was a bath in the onsuite to the double and a bathroom downstairs for the other dwellers. The Tree house which is joined to the lodge via a decked rope bridge is very exclusive. It has its own reception , TV and on suite shower room.

The main lodge decking had a hot tub which is maintained daily by staff.

Log burner is a great touch inside the lodge.

The lodge is fitted with a TV , DVD player and wii. No phone signal only able to get it half way out of the site ,

Staff were very welcoming and informative. We all really enjoyed it and would highly recommend this to all ages.

Myself and friends (8 in total) booked to stay from Friday to monday in the lodge with tree house.
We arrived on the friday after a while trying to find the place ( sat navs).

Very quiet and peaceful. Later checkin than we thought. We got the key at 3pm and parked up. Parking wasnt directly outside of the lodge, however that was no problem.

Huge lodge that was very homely with huge kitchen dining area, 3 bedrooms in the main lodge( on double and twin rooms). There was a bath in the onsuite to the double and a bathroom downstairs for the other dwellers. The Tree house which is joined to the lodge via a decked rope bridge is very exclusive. It has its own reception , TV and on suite shower room.

The main lodge decking had a hit tub which is maintained daily by staff. great feature for late night star gazing.

Log burner is a great touch inside the lodge and would be great in the snowy months.

The lodge is fitted with a TV , DVD player and wii. No phone signal only able to get it half way out of the site , however was nice to be free from technology.

Staff were very welcoming and informative. We all really enjoyed it and would highly recommend this to all ages.

We were a group of late Twenties early 30's with no kids.

Stayed in Silver Birch cabin 39 - perfect as not overlooked and not to far from the retreat and no cabins right next door either. Went as a couple with our daughter, husband and 1 year old grand daughter. They had the on suite we had the twin room downstairs with separate bathroom. Their room was quite warm due to the heat rising so might have been a bit too hot in summer.

Great forest walks and mill pond has ducks, geese and fish to feed.

Lots of activites if you have slightly older children (over 4 years of age)

Had breakfast in the retreat on the first morning - that was very nice.

No phone signals at all here - there is a payphone - however if you drive up the road to the entrance to Deerpark woods then you get a signal!!

Daughter and husband used the hot tub and really liked it - very private.

Room Tip: If wanting a silver birch then 39 is ideal as no immediate neighbours and not overlooked

We recently visited for a mini honeymoon prior to our proper honeymoon later in the year. We found the accommodation to be clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful, much more helpful then the surly staff we encountered on another Forest Holidays holiday to The Forest of Dean. One of the staff members called Nikki actually went to the trouble of giving us a lift to the local pub and leaving a bottle of champagne and a card in our cabin, which was a lovely touch. This is how staff in a customer service orientated role should be!! Overall a good experience.

we went to deer [park forest for a anniversayry weekedn away and it was the isolate area, walks and lodge hot tib that pursuaded us. The locatioj is idyllic! perfect truly beautiful, the cabin loooked out onto a lake and into the forest, from the hot tub we had a great view and felt very private although there are other lodges surrounding. The lodge iotself was a great size, offering two bathrooms and 2 bedrooms, a open plan kitchen diner and loving room. The lodge was not the cleanest place i have ever stayed oin, i found cups in the cupboard and cutkery that had not been cleaned. However, our overall experince was amazing, the views and the loevly alks, the isloation and surroundings were lovely. ALthough there were aspect within the lodge itself, me and my husband will be returing, with the children! Reccomneded as a romantci break and fmaily holiday x

We have stayed here for the last two years with our children aged 2 and 9. The first time we stayed in a golden oak, cabin 6 and had a great time. I would advise you pick your cabin number as well as silver or golden status as the location of where your cabin is on the site will determine your level of privacy.
This year we booked a silver cabin as the only difference is you don't get towels or a wii. Some silver cabins have log burners so it would be worth phoning the site to double check and save a substantial amount of money.
We arrived at site to find the cabin had been refurbished and was not ready. We where offered the choice of sharing our holiday home with work men or we could be upgraded to a golden cabin. We obviously took the upgrade . We woke the next morning to the sound of trucks drills and a lot of banging. In day light we could see all of the surrounding cabins where being refurbished. We had travelled over 300miles to stay on a building site. I could of cried!
We had to pack up and moved to another cabin which was on the other side of the side of the site. We packed and unpacked again and then found work men where starting in the cabin next door. I gave up on the thought of a relaxing family forest holiday.
The staff here are lovely and clearly felt sorry for us and embarrassed by the situation so much so that we have been offered a full refund.
The surrounding area is amazing, so much to see and do for adults and kids whatever the weather. Be prepared to spend a lot though! My advice would be ring the site befor you book. Check if there is any worked planned on site and also the specifics of your cabin.

Room Tip: Call the site first and have a good look at the site map. Choose your cabin wisely!
