“Minion Kev”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

Working on the T.V transmitter up on the hill above the pub so it was ideal for my evening meal.
Lovely couple running the pub with friendly staff.
Excellent food at a good price. Get in early to grab a table. Although in the middle of nowhere the bar and restaurant are always busy with food and drink.
The pub does have 3 rooms which were booked up.
Next time I'm around that way I know exactly where to stay and eat.

“A midday booking for a table for four”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Booked a table for four in the lounge area and we were greeted warmly . Although the pub was quite crowded it did not detract from excellent service. The table and seating area was very clean and the choice of meals very good. We all ordered differently and everyone was well satisfied. The quality and quantity ,together with the service ,made it most enjoyable. This together with the setting on Bodmin Moor makes it well worth a visit. Recommended.

Always a popular place to visit when in the area. Delicious, home cooked pub food. Excellent value, friendly prompt service and friendly atmosphere. Recommend booking as busy during peak season.

“More than just Minions”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

This is the highest pub in Cornwall, which would be reason enough to visit it. It's also next to the ancient Hurler stones (stone circles) and a good walk from the Cheeswrings themselves. These are huge rock piles stacked over 30 ft high by weather and erosion. That would also be a good reason to visit this pub.

But let's face it, you visit it to take a photo of yourself in front of the Minions road sign. :)

The Cheeswring is half pub / half Resteraunt and has live music at the weekends. Great selection of drinks (Sharpes brewery) well priced.

The food is also excellent value, home prepared and cooked to order. We had the Cheesewring burger and this was extremely tasty and huge portions. Very nice double fried chips as well.

Being on Bodmin Moor, the scenery is awesome and the views can be spectacular. Plenty of history and heritage within walking distance as well.

Great find.

“Weirdly inefficient service with unapologetic attitude about it”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

We ate at this restaurant in March and May. On both occasasions the restaurant was full and we were asked if we minded waiting 20 minutes for food. We said no, waited and food was served.

This time in August we went back and were told the same and waited over an hour for burger and chips and egg and chips. When we complained we were told 'it is the season'. This is odd as the restaurant was just as full last time we went 'out of season'.

The food is good and the staff mostly friendly if randomly incompetent. We got our ketchup after coffee!. Perhaps they are simply overwhelmed by the notion of doing more than one thing at once..

I would possibly go back off season but I don't think they are really up to snuff on the service. As a pub though they have a reasonable range of ales, and the locals seem to enjoy it.

We had plenty of time to observe the other diners and their food - huge portions of food - mostly well appreciated by some eaters of serious portions.

When our food finally came it was delicious - huge portions - couldn't finish it all - despite being starving and not getting fed for an hour.. Perhaps they should consider faster service and slightly smaller portions giving a bit more profitability and a budget for another member of staff. Would love to see them get their act together and make it a regular stopping place..
