Owner description: A great 13th century circular keep standing on an earlier Norman mound, atop a high spur beside the River Fowey. Twice visited by the Black Prince, it finally saw action during the Civil War. Commanding fantastic views, it makes an excellent picnic spot. Child friendly and dog friendly.

Its a lovely castle, yes its a ruin, yes you have to pay an entire 4.90 admission, yes its up a hill but for goodness sake people it does EXACTLY what it says on the tin. Its a delightful suprise, with very pretty grounds perfect for a warm day

“An interesting historic castle”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Different from other remains we had seen. Still interesting although the information boards could have been better placed.

“Uncommercial and unspoilt”
Reviewed 4 June 2014 via mobile

The castle is absolutely gorgeous and great to explore with children. My two little ones aged 2 and 4 loved all the steps and secret places to hide in. The views are beautiful and the grounds are a safe place for children to run around in. Other than the castle all the site has to offer is a small gift shop with a coffee machine but when lots of similar attractions seem determined to part you from as much cash as possible, this made for a refreshing change.

“Beautiful ruin, was very peaceful, hardly any other visitors. Spectacular views.”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Loved the beauty and secluded location. It is a lovely location to picnic. The lady on the gate was very friendly, and helpful. The only downside was that there wasn't a baby change or cafe.

“Unworthy”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

Unworthy of your time or money. The UK is full of ruined castles; this is, quite simply, just another one.
