We stayed for two nights and Charlayne was very helpful throughout. The room and breakfast were extremely nice and they were very flexible despite our awkward arrival time and breakfast requirements!

Whatever your question, Charlayne will endevour to answer it, find maps, organise a restaurant booking, download train times, all done. Very comfortable, a lot of thought for staying guests.

We arrived very late on a Friday, after a nightmare trip round the M25, yet we were made to feel welcome as soon as we pulled up. In fact, as we arrived Charlayne was just texting me to find out if we were OK and whether we needed any help with the directions. Throughout the stay, both she and her husband David were the perfect hosts - and their dog Barney...well, I would have taken him home if I could!

Polmena guest house itself is in the hills above Lostwithiel, and as we drove up the dark lanes we could see the lights of the town sparkling magically in the valley below. But however magical the views were late at night, they couldn't beat the views by day: so many different shades of green, as far as the eye could see; sheep grazing in the field below; and the River Fowey in the distance. The only sounds were the bees buzzing as they collected pollen from the beautiful flowers roundabout. Given its location the pervailing sense at the Polmena guest house is tranquility, and it is the perfect place to relax.

Even though the location makes you feel as though you are away from it all, Lostwithiel is conveniently close, and it took us only about 15 minutes to walk into the town centre, which was very quaint, with its antique shops and tea rooms (Muffins tea room in particular deserves a mention). From here it is about another 20 minutes walk up to Restormel Castle, invisible from the town, but well worth the £3.20 entrance fee to look around. The elevated location makes a great spot for a picnic - if you can possibly still be hungry after visiting the tea rooms in town, and the wonderful breakfast at the Polmena guest house.

We hadn't planned for it, but our stay happened to coincide wih the end of the Lostwithiel carnival week, and the whole town turned out for the big finale on the Saturday night. The procession had a lovely festive air about it and ended with a hog roast and a live band in the car park of the Earl of Chatham pub.

I like to think we saw Lostwithiel at its best: great weather, fantastic atmosphere and a beautiful place to stay. We were just able to fit in a trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan the following day, but two nights were not long enough, and I only wished I could have stayed for longer.

Originally my husband and I were expected at another B&B in the area. It took forever to locate and then I found a note left on the door explaining that they were called away on a family emergency! The alternative they had arranged was a 2 night stay at Polmena House. An unexpected turn of events - after all the planning I had done - but it taught me something! It taught me that you can organize and plan your course to exhaustion but the other road may be even better!
David and Charlayne and their dog Barney gave us such a warm welcome! I'm sure they sensed how tired and stressed we were and so they arranged for us to sit in their lovely garden with the spectacular view and brought out the tea and sponge cake.
The Paddock Room was very comfortable and clean and breakfast was great! Try the sausages - really good!
The restaurant that David recommended had the best food I've eaten in years!! Don't miss a meal at Terrra Nova in Lostwithiel! And don't miss a stop at Polmena House. One of the best B&B's on our trip through South West England! - Barbara and Erik from The Netherlands

Polmena House is our first choice of B&B whenever we visit Cornwall. Charlayne and David make us very welcome and we always feel we are amongst friends.
In a beautiful setting with views towards the River Fowey, the accommodation is spacious and comfortable. Charlayne provides an excellent breakfast, using local produce wherever possible.
Situated up a quiet lane with on-site parking, Polmena House is conveniently situated for the many attractions of mid Cornwall and is within a few minutes' drive of Lostwithiel with its excellent pubs and restaurants.
We hope to return again soon.

Picked at random off the internet, we had a wonderfull time with a warm and friendly reception.

This is a small B&B but the rooms are generous with full size en-suite bathrooms.

Polmena is build on a steep Cornish slope and so inevitably the steps and paths are not suitable for people with restricted mobility. A wheelchair would be impossible.

The Eden Project and both coasts of Cornwall are all within easy reach.

We have just returned from Polmena after our 3rd visit.
We love this Bed & Breakfast. Charlayne & David are fantastic hosts. We feel our stay is like home from home.
They both go that 'extra mile' to ensure your comfort & are happy to help in any situation.
The location is lovely, you can see down the valley to the river Fowey.
It is the perfect location for visiting many different attractions around the area.
The local restaurants/pubs are also very welcoming & of a very high standard.
We would recommend anyone wishing to have a relaxing break to try this wonderful little gem in Lostwithiel.
