The Hen House is a lovely dog-friendly B & B which is more than your average B&B. We were given a warm welcome by Sandy & Gary who have worked hard to make their home eco-friendly & sustainable with new solar panels which gave us unlimited very hot water. The room was large, comfortable and clean and there was nothing we were left wanting for. The breakfasts were superb, beautifully cooked to order and we hardly needed lunch. It is a real retreat with fun Tai Chi classes before breakfast in the meadow if you desired, while our dogs roamed happily around us . Our hosts gave us ample information about the local area and were very informative and helpful, lending books and maps. The Hen House is tucked away down a narrow lane with beautiful views over the fields to the sea, it is so peaceful you can't fail to recharge your batteries here.
We explored The Lizard and sailed on the Helford river, walked along Frenchman's Creek and visited art galleries, ate cream teas and had delicious meals in pubs by the sea where all the locals were so friendly and welcoming, especially to our two dogs.
It is the sort of place that leaves you thinking you want to throw up your old life and move to Cornwall for a better quality of life.

What a lovely find... We had three nights at Sandy and Garys lovely B&B with our big hairy dog Bruno... Nothing was to much trouble, Morgan was a laid back golden retreiver that showed Bruno around and shared his rugby ball with a laid back ease. Both Gary and Sandy did breakfast for us, with a divine home made dried fruit compot to start the day, followed by BIG breakfast!! the only problem I found was then trying to fit in cream tea later in the day when out and about!
Really comfy rooms, and bed, lovely grounds, and easy to get up and walk the surrounding lanes with Bruno for that early morning leg stretch.

Room Tip: Off the beaten track, so follow the directions

We were lucky enough to stay at the Hen House during a spell of glorious weather which made the idyllic surroundings even more beautiful. The B & B itself was luxurious and comfortable but yet it still retained a rural charm.

The hospitality we received on our stay was absolutely first rate, we were made to feel welcome from the very beginning and the 3 course breakfast each morning kept us going well beyond lunch time. We also very much enjoyed the complimentary Thai Chi each morning in the wild flower meadow.

The surrounding area, with it's various gardens, attractions and stunning coastal walks, provided more than enough entertainment to fill our stay and we left feeling fulfilled and refreshed.

I would thoroughly recommend the Hen House to anyone who wants a relaxing retreat in beautiful rural surroundings and I very much suspect we shall be returning some time in the future!

I have just spent four wonderful nights at the Hen House and could not recommend it more highly. The hosts, Gary and Sandy, know everything you could possible need to know about the area; such as best cream teas, hot chocolates, walks, pubs...

It is very dog friendly. The B&B room was extremely comfortable with large shower and bath, television and DVD, books, information on local places to visit. Even fresh flowers for the visit.

From their meadow you get a wonderful panorama of the stars on a clear night, with not a sound to be heard apart from the local wildlife. You are woken to the sound of numerous different birds in the morning, and then have the most amazing home cooked breakfast served on local Cornish crockery. The Lizard Peninsula is excellent for beautiful coastal walks, good food, peace and quiet and a good rest.

We'd never been to the lizard peninsular and we went to the henhouse because of the dog friendly facilities, oh yes and the breakfast menu :-) We weren't disappointed!

Sandy and Gary have created a little haven which they are kind enough to share with people like us who need to escape for a while. Ruby and Saffy settled in straight away and fell for gorgeous Morgan hook line and sinker - he's so handsome and very laid back!!

Accommodation was spacious, spotless and comfortable. Very handy having use of utility room for dog food prep and washing doggy bowls, drying wet towels and boots and handy hose if necessary.

The fantastic breakfasts set you up for the day, served with some friendly banter and lots of information on walks, places to visit, local arts & crafts, places to eat and dog friendly beaches. We had the best fish pie at the Ship Inn at Porthleven, Ice Cream from Roskillys and you must try the meringues from the cafe by the lighthouse at lizard point - ask Sandy!!!!!

Beautiful scenic walks, good food, a comfortable bed and new friends. We had a fantastic time!
Thank you Sandy & Gary & Morgan. Hope to see you next year. Pam & Allan & Ruby & Saffy Fisher, Forfar, Scotland

Our abiding memory of our stay at the Henhouse is the sense of being at home in this tranquil hidden corner of Cornwall. Sandy & Gary have such an easy-going way with them it was like visiting friends in the country. After a long journey, a welcome cup of tea & a homemade muffin followed by a soak in a fragrant bath, a lovely fish supper at the local pub & a good night's sleep in a comfy bed. The breakfast table was laid-out immaculately with local pottery & local produce was cooked-up for us in tasty FEB. On returning from our walk we relaxed in the wild flower meadow renowned for it's healing properties. The next morning at 8 we joined Gary for a complimentary Tai Chi class. \it's great place for walkers & for those who want to sit & contemplate their existance. We will return.

We stayed at the Hen House for a week in August with our dog, who was made very welcome and enjoyed having the run of the meadow! The room we stayed in was lovely - spacious, tastefully decorated, and light and airy with two large skylights, and a large and comfortable bed (the only slight criticism being that the pillows were a bit too hard for our tastes!)

The breakfasts were phenomenal, with cereal or home-made fruit compote and yogurt to start, followed by a fabulous full English (the sauted herby potatoes were our favourite thing!), and then homemade toast and jam. Gary and Sandy were fantastic, providing us with recommendations for the best places to go each morning (and the recommendations were spot on - particularly the one for the best cream tea!).

The B&B is set in a tiny peaceful hamlet, it is like stepping back in time! It is a short drive (or pleasant walk across the fields) to the nearest bigger village with a shop and couple of pubs, and there are loads of lovely places to visit in the Lizard - it is much quieter and more peaceful than other areas of Cornwall, and most getting to most places involves driving along tiny single track roads, but you hardly ever meet anyone coming the other way! Great if you really want to relax and get away from it!
