After searching for a dog friendly B&B for an autumn break I decided to give the Hen House a go.
I'm so glad we did - what a lovely place in beautiful part of the country. Our room was very comfortable and the choice of food at breakfast was excellent - unfortunately I tried the locally smoked fish on my first morning and was so hooked I had it every day even though a full Cornish was available.
The Hen House is in an ideal location on the Lizard, being close to many places to explore. We found Gary & Sandy very knowledgeable of the area, and their advice on both places to visit and where to eat was definitely a factor in us having a great holiday

We could not fault our stay at the Hen House, it was everything we needed after a long trip down from Sussex. We were greeted on our arrival with a pot of tea and homemade apple muffins, and made to feel at home right away. Our dog was made to feel welcome and felt very at home also. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with a large five foot comfortable bed. Full cooked breakfast with a choice of whatever you wish. Very relaxed atmosphere, and eco-friendly. We have now visited twice and would recommend it to anyone.

This was our 2nd stay this year. We enjoyed our first visit so much that we immediately booked again for September. We had a fantastic time once again in the converted barn. The wonderful crisp white linen and wonderful kingsize bed gave us the best sleep ever. Sandy & Gary made us as welcome as usual and we look forward to going back as soon as we can. The stars at night in the meadow are amazing, so clear and bright with no light pollution. On our last night we and the other guests who'd all got on so well, sat around the chiminea fire in the courtyard area trying Gary & Sandy's homemade wine and swapping places to visit on the Lizard. A perfect break. This place is number 1 on TripAdvisor for good reason.

We were finally able to stay with Gary and Sandy, so popular and had a really relaxing time. Breakfasts really started the day right. Full Cornish, with the possibility of smoked fish & poached egg. Fruit and yoghurt and tea or coffee, we were offered continental, but not enough time. The room was large and well furnished, with a large bathroom. The land is great, particularly for dog owners, but also to sit in the meadow and relax waiting for the sunset. So many stars, unbelievable. Everything was clean, plenty of tea & coffee & milk in the room, never ran out. A fridge to keep your own things fresh too.
Sandy and Gary have endless recommendations for The Lizard and OS maps for each room to borrow. Eateries recommended include The Prince of Wales, The 5 Pilchards, RosKillys Ice Creams and personally pasties from The Horse and Jockey in Helston.
We ran out of time but hope to go back soon.
Thanks for everything.

Room Tip: Each have their own character, 2 B&B one self catering appartment.

Found this place on a website for dog friendly accommodation and so glad they had last minute availability for us. Stayed in bantam barn which is their self catering barn so had our own little kitchen which was handy for quick teas after a long days walking the cliff tops of the beautiful lizard. The location is excellent if you're after a peaceful and relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of day to day life, it's off the main route and the night sky has got to be seen to be believed, light pollution has a lot to answer for! It's easy to get back onto the main road that leads through the heart of the area though, we explored a large chunk of it and it never took us more than about half an hour to get anywhere and that's more to do with the location of the roads as opposed to the distance! The south west coastal path goes almost all the way round the edge of the peninsula and has some fantastic walks which are definitely worth looking into, we spent almost the whole week walking with Griffin our dog and ventured all the way down to the most southerly point and right the way up to Falmouth with it's opportunity for river cruises and ferries across the Helford. The whole area is every dog friendly, most of the pubs, cafes and tourist attractions locally allow dogs in, though some restaurants have restricted access. Would highly recommend Roskillys farm with their restaurant and home made ice cream - we tried a different flavour almost every day, apple crumble; genius!! The hosts Garry and Sandy made us feel so welcome, arrived quite late and were given some cake and a little jug of milk ready for morning tea, they also lent us an OS map which was invaluable and their recommendations of walks etc were very useful, we'll definitely be returning!!

I actually stayed in June/July 2009 but couldn't put this date in trip advisor.

I think I probably slept in every room during my visit. I started in B&B, moved to the cottage/converted barn and ended up in the B&B again. Each room was individual, large, clean and luxurious. The Bantam's Roost (the barn) was perfect - and I see there's a wood burining stove there now so will have to return!

Gary and Sandy are the perfect hosts; there when you need them but not instrusive. It was great learning tai chi at the top of the meadow overlooking the estuary. Our two dogs enjoyed the visit and were welcomed by Morgan.

I'd love to visit again - a peaceful, quiet location, very eco friendly and the breakfasts were great.
