Me and our wife visited this stunning location for our first wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect from the rooms to the service. We will definitely be returning to this fantastic hotel. All the staff were a credit to the owners and not a stone has been left unturned in making this such a special location.

We booked one of the Indulgent Rooms. Being their most expensive offering, and having heard about the amazing views, we were expecting something very special. Instead we were very disappointed.

The room was quite large, but was very low down meaning that our view was all but non existent. We were looking out over what seemed to be the rooftop of other rooms. There were also attics for other rooms which also impeded our view. We almost cried.

Other reviews have also commented on the very average decor in the rooms. The interior reminded me of the rooms you might expect in one of those corporate conference type hotels; certainly not a luxury, romantic getaway.

Also very off putting was the open plan showering arrangements. Without a word of exaggeration, the shower is in the tv area. If you are having a shower, you can watch tv. Anyone watching tv can also watch you. Extraordinary!

That said, the service was exceptional. We also really enjoyed eating in the on site restaurant.

Sadly, the lack of a view and the weird showering arrangement means we could never return. Perhaps other, cheaper, rooms are more enticing.

Room Tip: Don't assume the most expensive rooms have the best view.

Thank you ever so much for your review. With regards to your room, I am so sorry that you left feeling disappointed, and that your room view and layout was not to your personal taste. We are quite unusual here in the fact that our rooms are all really quite different and varied in order to try and meet as many tastes as possible, and our reservations team, in much the same spirit as the wonderful service our team gave you once you arrived, normally speak to all guests at time of booking in order to confirm the room layout and details (we then call back again closer to arrival to just ensure that there’s no changes and to ensure we have any little touches in place for you). Unfortunately, if bookings are made with third party agents, we may not be provided with these contact details to ensure we have everything in place. Once again, I am ever so sorry that your room did not match your tastes on this occasion, but understand that you found our service to be exceptional here and that you really enjoyed our fabulous restaurant. With that in mind I do hope that you give us another opportunity in the future.

Not many places offer a dog to walk on the beach. It's the small stuff that sets hotels apart, the quick chat with a staff member, a bit of kindness above the norm or something different about the design. The Scarlett and it's team do this very well. Take it as read that the architecture and design are very well executed. it just blends into the landscape and gives different spaces to retreat and just stop and breath. The food was excellent, the spa so well done and staffed, outdoor natural pool exhilarating and the staff just great from the informal reception to the chatty cleaner and the attentive restaurant and bar staff. I slept well, relaxed and come back feeling better and happier. Will come again!

I'm delighted to hear that we really looked after you and that you left us feeling better, happier and much more relaxed than when you arrived... that's certainly our aim here. I agree that the outdoor pool is exhilarating... absolutely perfect for an invigorating early morning treat, I find! I will pass your kind comments on to our team here. It's lovely to read that you are already thinking of returning, and look forward to welcoming you back again here very soon.

I recently spent a night in this gorgeous place with my daughter and was reluctant to leave. From the moment we arrived, we encountered wonderful, friendly staff willing to do whatever it took to make our stay comfortable. And enjoyable.

The locTion, overlooking the beach, is simply stunning and the hotel makes full use of this by cleverly positioning the luxurious rooms so that each one has a unique view from the large French windows. The bathroom was luxurious together with the Ayurvedic products provided for guests to sample and take home!

We were provided with towelling robes and slippers. Rooms have hair dyers, baths and a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, and TV/video facilities. There is an excellent spa for guests and visitors use, although on this visit we did not use the Spa or the Steam and Sauna rooms.

I will definitely visit this hotel again, and would recommend it for couples, outdoors types, guests wanting to relax away from the hustle and bustle. And, the best thing is the food. Michelin chef delivers food of the highest standard, using all locally produced organic ingredients.

Wonderful place !!!

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to write such a kind review. It's wonderful to hear that you both had such a wonderful time with us, and I do hope that you took what was left of the organic toiletries home with you, for a little bit of Scarlet luxury in your very own home! I will certainly pass on your compliments to the team and the chef. Many thanks once again and we hope to see you again very soon.

The Scarlet is almost top class but there was something just lacking. We stayed for one night on a bit of an escape for us prior to a new arrival to the family and the Scarlet came recommended (partly due to the no kids policy!). The hotel has lots of plus points. It is in a beautiful location with all rooms looking out to the sea (some views are better than others but the hotel is very upfront about this and none are poor). The rooms are well equipped and spacious reflecting the fact that it is a pretty new build. The layout is nice with peaceful lounges and my wife thought the spa treatment she had was very good. The issue I have is that for the price (+£300 for the night) the whole package didn't quite live up to it, particularly the service. It wasn't bad, just not good enough, which was a shame as the service at the time of booking suggested otherwise. For instance, the Scarlet doesn't have a reception desk (deliberately) but a sign says that they know you are there...we were kept waiting for 10 minutes and had to go and look for someone. We were asked if we wanted a drink when shown to our room, asked for coffee, and then had to call reception to enquire where it was after nothing turned up after 45 minutes. We had to ask twice for gluten free bread at breakfast and at dinner and then were told that they didn't have a chilled bottle of the wine we ordered at dinner (they'd just sold the last one) and did we want to wait whilst the freeze chilled one...our food had already arrived. Dinner was good, but not great, and didn't seem good value. None of this is major, it didn't ruin our stay, but for the price I would expect service to be better. Having stayed at the Watergate Bay Hotel down the coast before and would opt for that over the Scarlet.

Room Tip: All rooms are good but views vary so make sure to ask when booking in (you will get a call even if b...

Thank you so much for your review, your feedback is ever so valued and appreciated. Although I am pleased to see that you found us to have many plus points, I was saddened to read that we let you down in parts with regards to our service and that you left us not wanting to return, as this is the absolute opposite of how we want our guests to leave feeling. We were extremely surprised and disappointed that we fell below your expectations, as I assure you that the standards that you experienced are far from the norm; Service that we pride ourselves on, and that our guests know and love us for.

With this in mind I would really appreciate the chance to have a chat to you so that we can look into these instances further and ensure that we learn from it moving forward. My personal email is erica.lappin@scarlethotel.co.uk. If it would be convenient at all for you to message me with contact details and a suitable time to chat, we would be eternally grateful.

Wow. What a wonderful day/night's escape we had at The Scarlet! We had been staying in Watergate Bay for a week and had already booked into The Scarlet for a Spa treat afternoon, upon visiting the Hotel in advance to check it out, we decided to tag a night's stay on as well! We were not disappointed! The service was excellent throughout, friendly, warm and genuine, a real emphasis has clearly been placed on providing a relaxed yet professional approach to guests. Our entry level room was perfect - modern, luxurious, clean with a fab big balcony and view over the sea, also the room was huge, so it felt more like a mini suite : ) The Spa facilities are excellent, so much space to relax in, not at all noisy and disruptive like so many Hotels. We had one of their "Spend Time Together" experiences, which was great. This is more of a "eco-friendly luxury retreat" than a Hotel, and whilst it has all the mod-cons and top notch facilities you'd expect of a 5* Hotel it actually feels more like a hidden coastal/country hide-away. It's perfectly placed in terms of location, Mawagan Porth below is stunning and I can highly recommend the cliff-top hot tub experience looking out over the bay with a glass of bubbles! The crowning glory for us and what really sets The Scarlet apart from pretty much all other places we've stayed in was the food - off the chart good! Locally sourced, made from scratch, everything was fresh, delicately flavoured, thoughtfully put together and very tasty! It is a pricey stay....one night, dinner, bed & breakfast plus Spa experiences and a few drinks cost the best part of £600, that said we don't regret a penny and we are already looking for a reason to go back this year!!

What an absolutely wonderful way to end a week here in Cornwall, and to spend some valuable time relaxing together and rediscovering each other (something that is so important for friends or couples, but seldom done). I agree that our spa space here is absolutely gorgeous, and always has plenty of special, perfect places to stretch out and unwind in, whatever the weather or your mood... and the stunning sea view is never far away! Also, yes, our 'Just Right' rooms really are just right for a hideaway break... For those of us who really want to make the most of the privacy and surroundings we also offer room service (perfect for a sea view breakfast in bed, or even an intimate, al fresco dinner on your balcony.

I will certainly pass on your compliments to Tom Hunter (our head chef) and his team with regards his dishes... if you're looking for a reason to come back to us, our menu does change from day to day depending on fresh seasonality, so there's always something new and exciting in the restaurant! Otherwise, we do absolutely love celebrations here, so if you are looking to come back for a special birthday or anniversary then please do let us know.

Thank you ever so much for sharing your experience with others. We hope to welcome you back very soon.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at The Scarlet. They are friendly, helpful and happy in their jobs! The rooms are beautiful, always cleaned to a high standard and with beautiful views.

The food is extremely good and as I am dairy intolerant and my husband is coeliac, we are not the easiest to feed! Never daunted, the chef actually prepares a separate menu for us at no extra charge.,

The spa is the ultimate in luxury and the hot tubs on the cliffs are the perfect topper to a special holiday. I simply cannot fault the hotel and would rather go there than anywhere else!

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to tell others about your experience with us, and I'm so glad that you both had such a special holiday with us... it really sounds like you made the most of your time with us. I'll certainly pass your kind comments on to the teams. Tom, our head chef, is so passionate about creating wonderful dishes to suit any dietary requirement, so no 'from free' menu with us should ever be free from that special Scarlet sparkle!

It's really heartwarming to read that you would rather stay here with us than go anywhere else... Thank you so much for your kind comments. I do hope that we will be welcoming very soon in the future... the hot tub will be ready and waiting!
