“Third time and still the best”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

It is hard to equate some of the negative comments in other reviews with our experience of Bedruthan. This was our third visit, this time for the last week of August whereas previously we have gone in May/June, and it was absolutely fantastic. Responding to a few comments below: scrambled, poached or boiled eggs are not charged extra at breakfast, you simply have to ask and they will be freshly prepared for you. The only breakfast food items with extra charges are pancakes (which I must say are slightly pricey at £2.50!), smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, and kippers; freshly squeezed orange juice is also an extra but they explain that this is because they want people to enjoy local produce which is why they provide the lovely local apple juice instead. Food overall very good indeed, and some truly exceptional dishes in both the Wild Cafe and the Herring.

I can't comment on the rooms without a sea view because we have always booked the sea view ones which are lovely, and many of which have been redecorated since our last visit. Plentiful soap and an interesting shampoo bar are provided, and we find the standards of cleanliness and housekeeping exemplary.

The food package: I would agree that this could do with a slightly clearer preliminary explanation as to what is and isn't included but overall I would say it is genuinely flexible and worked very well for us as a family. Baby listening: we have now stayed a total of 18 nights at the hotel and it has worked perfectly every single night.

The entertainment is particularly geared for younger children but our seven-year old still enjoys it, as does the three-year old, and the clubs are well run if you want to use them, albeit for the morning ones at an extra price. Pool furniture seemed fine to me and given we spent hours each day there thanks to the lovely weather I would have noticed if it was uncomfortable. And the service at the poolside bar was good too.

So my overall comment would be that there are always going to be dissatisfied customers at any hotel but from the number of people we met who were on the fifth, sixth or even seventh visit there are clearly far more who love it, and, like us, having returned last night are already looking forward to next year's visit to Bedruthan.

Room Tip: For us a seaview is essential, the rooms are larger and the view is wonderful. If possible ask for...

We have recently returned from 8 nights here and we thoought it was a great place to go with young (7 and nearly 2) children and it exceeded our expectations. The weather was really good most of the time we were there which of course helps but the facilities and kids' activities were spot on and the location / views were amazing anyway. Like anywhere it's not perfect and some small things can be improved -e.g. the rules of the flexible dining package were rather opaque to my mind (e.g. hot drinks all day were supposed to be covered by the package but when I had a coffee with my lunch I was told that it wasn't covered by the package) and, unlike the name of the package, rather inflexible - perhaps the hotel could look at these again before we come again, which we fully intend to do. Incidentally, is there another hotel of the same name with which this one is being confused, as the several recent one star ratings are unfathomable to me....

Room Tip: Get a sea view room if you can - stunning views!

My son ( 11 ) and I stayed here for one night ( thank goodness only one ) before moving on to the ever wonderful Watergate Bay Hotel . Totally unimpressed . We arrived early , let reception know and had a wander through the hotel before our room was ready. Restriction notices everywhere - no children in the bar - fair enough - children to leave adjacent lounge by 10.00pm - okay for 5 and 6 year olds but what about teenagers ( children until 16 ) .
Could not eat with my well behaved son in the restaurant unless we ate at 6.00pm - who wants to eat at 6.oopm ??? The chairs by the outside pools were excruciatingly uncomfortable. I ordered a Peroni - had to wait 10 mins at a counter to be served despite the presence of 3 staff ( busy chatting ) .Was presented with a beer that was half froth as the girl serving had as she said " forgotten to tilt the glass " - "never mind it will go down" said her colleague .
The lady on reception was very helpful and phoned housekeeping to see if our room was ready earlier - it wasn't £ 225 per night and we couldn't get in until bang on check in at 3.30 - contrast this with Watergate Bay - took my mobile no. and telephoned to let me know room was ready 2 hours earlier than official check in.
Room was clean , but bathroom was a joke - I'm 5' 6 " and was almost bent double in the smallest bath imaginable. The glass shower screen ( over head hand shower ) kept bashing the bathroom door as it was such a pokey room.
We ate in the Wild Cafe - food o.k - zero ambience , hideous mats - " cafe " just about sums it up.
Breakfast reasonable - however " orange juice available on request " - and if you wanted it fresh - an extra £ 3.00 please.
Check out time - a ridiculous 10.30 .....however suffice it to say , we left long before then , were very glad to get away and will NEVER go back.

Its often a risk to go somewhere where you had such a great time. This was almost one of those occasions. This time we booked late and had a room sans sea view. What we got were pretty pokey interconnecting rooms with a view of the car park. We stayed for 3 days and thats about the maximum a family could last in these rooms.

The hotel facilities for the children were fantastic. The kids loved the kids club, pool, soft play etc.
The food was pretty good at all mealtimes.

Overall it was a good stay but its not cheap and after spending a tidy amount on 3 day stay it was a bit of a shame we had to stump up a fiver to have the kids 2 rain macs sent back.

Room Tip: Take a sea view room if you have planning to stay more than a couple of days.

after my wife had visited the Spa on a hen weekend earlier this summer she decided it would be a great location for us to visit when i returned from working overseas. I had read the reviews and to be honest was aprehensive about lots of kids.
I've got to say that when we pulled up it wasn't what i was expecting the place to look like from outside.
However once inside i was very pleasantly surprised. We arrived at 1pm and had been told that our room wouldn't be ready until 3.30pm but we we free to use the spa facilities which was fine.

the spa treatments had been prebooked and i'm glad they were as they were nearly fully booked up but it didn't feel rushed or even one in one out as I have had at other Spa's. ( the only critisism is there could've been a little more seating for couples rather than the big bench area that was dominated by groups)

when we did get into the room it was very nicely decorated and fresh looking. no complaints at all about the appointment of the room even though we didn't have a sea view it did distract from the room. maybe could have done with an iron /ironing board in the room but i'm sure if i had really been bothered i could have requested one from reception.

we ate in The Herring restaurant on the flexible dining plan and I couldn't fault the standard of food or service.

would I go back? Yes definately enjoyed the experience but been fairly local may just go for a spa day next time but as a nice relaxing romantic break will wait till out of season to avoid as many family's. (but we did visit during middle of school holidays so had to expect that many family's)

Our second visit was as lovely as the first, the next visit already booked. Staff are so helpful and the Spa wonderful, as are all the facilities. The best breakfast I have had anywhere and cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are really comfortable.

A great place to visit but unfortunately to hot in summer. The rooms heated up to 27 degrees and your baby couldn't sleep at all as it was too hot in the rooms. We couldn't believe they didnt have aircon. We were disappointed that we were also the only parents in the welcome to the world break. It was on one hand great to have one to one input but we were looming forward to sharing the experience. The host was excellent though, food very good even though restaurant was also hot, and stinks were a tad overpriced. We would love to go back if they are got the room temperature sorted for summer weather.
