“Great family holiday and the best sea view I've ever seen!”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

Ran out of fingers to count the times we have stayed here. With two children growing up the hotel still suits us and we keep coming back. The staff are just lovely, the spa is a haven, the rooms are well kept, the childcare is very good indeed, food is super, entertainment is just right but that view.....priceless!

We have been here four times now, and it's always been an excellent family holiday. The kids' clubs are great, and our eleven year-old's interests and needs were very well met. The overall hotel facilities are superb. Everything is clean, smart and comfortable. We also appreciate how as much as possible is made environmentally sustainable. All the staff were welcoming, attentive and cheerful. The food is always great - eating in the Wild Cafe is always something to look forward to in the evening. A perfect family holiday.

We booked a table for a family roast recently and really enjoyed the recently refurbished restaurant and fantastic facilities.

They present the food in large serving plates for you to dish out, generous quantities of perfectly cooked and high quality meats and a selection of veg that suits everyone's palate.

Same for deserts, all deserts on the menu arrive and you help yourself.

You will need to relax with a coffee afterwards to help digest all this with brilliant views and so much for the kids to explore (great indoors soft play area and swimming pool and two levels of outdoor activities) that you can even get to read some of those Sunday papers.

Thoroughly recommend it.

We have just returned from Bedruthan Steps on our first family holiday there. The overall message is pretty good with only minor niggles. We visited in peak school summer holidays so unsurprisingly probably over 50% of the customers were families with very young children. The restaurant and facilities (child menu options and sittings for early supper) seem perfect for this age group. We found the 'wild cafe' a bit full on but the option of eating in the calmer and more adult herring restaurant was very reasonable and the food in both was excellent. We enjoyed a surfing lesson (thanks Pepe) and in truth there is plenty to do for a week without going more than a few miles from the hotel. The staff were excellent throughout particularly the very helpful reception team.

Only niggles which may in part relate to selecting one of the less expensive rooms were rather paper thin walls meaning regular waking from the young baby upstairs crying at least once a night and the single glazed windows backing onto the car park / no aircon so you had to choose between being a bit hot or woken up.

Overall if you love Cornwall, and want an active family holiday with excellent food, pool facilities and lovely staff can be had for about 1/3 of a similar mark warner style holiday but the 1959 hotel is creaking a bit. Would visit again but would definitely pay extra for one of the rooms away from the car park.

Upon arrival at the hotel, it'd be easy to think that it is out-dated, lacking in personality. That is, until you enter the hotel, to see a decorative masterclass, including funky rooms, and a lovely cafe and restaurant.

The rooms aren't spectacular, but offer everything you'd need for a short break. I was particularly pleased to find a fan in the cupboard, as it was quite hot during my stay at the hotel. The bathroom was nice and clean, and the shower was wonderful, one of the best I've experienced at a hotel! I stayed with my girlfriend in a standard room, facing the car park, but I had family members and they stayed in a family room, which offered incredible views of the sea.

The staff at this hotel are all friendly, and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. For example, my mum enjoyed the elderflower champagne at the Herring Restaurant, and a waiter emailed her the recipe for it.

The Wild Cafe is a nice place to eat, offering pub-style food, with some more creative specials on offer. The prices are adequate, the views are amazing, the service was good, and the only possible complaint was that maybe the food took too long to come. The more formal "Herring Restaurant" was superb, offering a limited menu, but the dishes were all sublime. It was rather expensive, but the food was close to justifying the prices. The breakfast was served in both establishments, offering a vast amount of options, including some wonderful chocolate croissants. The cocktail bar had a biblical amount of cocktails, "The Sophisticate" was particularly nice.

The location of the hotel is superb for exploring Cornwall. Along the coast are the "Bedruthan Steps" and they are definitely worth visiting. Being close to tourist-havens Padstock and Newquay, the hotel gives a great base in which to visit Cornwall.

The facilities in the hotel were excellent, and very well maintained. The indoor pool and spa were excellent, with a sauna, steam room and caladium on offer. The view from the indoor pool and spa area were great, and this is a real feature of the hotel.

I think it's important to mention that there were a lot of families with young children here, but the hotel does very well to separate adults and families, whilst providing an enjoyable experience for both parties.

A marvellous hotel, and I'd love to return here one day.

If you want a hotel in Cornwall that is designed for families with children up to around age 6 then look no further. Bedrooms are fairly standard but the modern bright decor gives them a nice touch. Avoid rooms overlooking the car park if possible as there can be noise. If your children are older it can be a little tricky at dinner times as you will want to avoid the young children but older children are in the minority and you can only eat in the Cafe if you want to eat after 8pm.

Food in both restaurants is good although there could be a little more variation.

Access to the beach is easy down the hill but would not be possible with very small children or pushchairs. It is a 2 min drive down the hill but you would nee to pay parking.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms which overlook the car park

We stayed again at the Bedruthan with our young daughter as part of our summer holiday. It's really all about children here. The staff are well trained and very patient with children and adults alike! Our room was lovely with a panoramic view of the coast. The location is fabulous, with direct access to the beach. The food is good and the restaurants are well staffed. The kids clubs are of very good quality and the children love them. Stay in a room with a sea view, even if it means compromising the length of your stay!
