“An excellent find”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

We stayed for 3 nights and were very happy with the accommodation. The owners are lovely and friendly and keep the rooms and bar spotlessly clean. We had a good hearty full English each day after an excellent night's sleep in very comfy beds. Our daughter stayed in a reasonable sized single while we had an enormous double room that even had room for a daybed! Our rooms were right next to the railway, but I can honestly say that it did not disturb us at all and was the quietest line we have ever heard! Hairdryers are in the rooms and plenty of space for clothes. Wifi is available, can be a bit patchy in the room, but strong in the bar.
The pub is very much a locals pub and quiet in the evenings. If you enjoy sports you will love the 2 sky sports screens plus the snooker table, darts and even shove ha'ppeny. The locals were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Its position was perfect for us as it was centrally placed for the places we wanted to visit - the Eden Project is about half an hour away, as is Morwellham Quay. It is just a turn off the A38 so easy to get wherever you want to visit.
The only downside for us was that there was no food available in the evening (we were aware of this before booking) and not that much choice locally. But if you are happy to drive into larger towns for the evening it won't be a problem.
The cost was by far the most reasonable around - which had made us a little nervous on booking- but we need not have worried at all. this is a real gem of a place and we highly recommend it.

This was much more than we expected! Amazing full english breakfast, spacious, modern and clean room, extremely friendly people. It has a wifi and pub downstairs (but it doesn't disturb your sleep, don't worry ;-)) Although it is very close to the train, you actually don't realise it. Definately recommended for your relaxed holiday.

Have now stayed here a few times, very friendly "local" pub, only just off the main road.
Ideal as a touring base as most of Cornwall in easy reach, also next to railway station !
Run by a very nice couple.

Stayed just one night whilst travelling through - would of happily stayed for longer. Made really welcome by the very helpful hosts - proper old style inn, honest and straight forward. Generous sized, clean & well furnished rooms. No evening meals but great Italian restaurant 5 min walk so no need for the car

We stayed at the Sportsmans Arms in August 2011 for 4 nights, there was myself, my husband and our 8 year old son. We were warmly welcomed by Rob and Christine and was very happy with the family room which we staying in, the room was very light, fresh, clean and airy and we wouldn't hesitate on returning. We had breakfast every morning which was fresh and very tasty and even my 8 year old son loved every mouthful and you know how fussy children can be. The location was perfect to explore this part of Cornwall, we had some lovely days out in Charlestown, Fowey and Looe.we shall definitely return xx

Christine and Bob are lovely hosts and nothing was too much trouble. They overnighted our bikes in their garage. The room was a family room, very spacious, bathroom was also of a good size. Everything you could ask for and a bar downstairs with pool table and large screen TV. All in all a very lovely stay.
