Wanted to spend a couple of days away, didn't want the hustle and bustle of the coastal villages. Chose the sportsman for its location. It did not disappoint. Great value, spotless, ample parking, fantastic friendly service from the owners, who were very welcoming. There is no doubt we will return to this fantastic place, our thanks go out to rob and Christine. Great breakfast on both days,

Steven and Edith.

Travelled to Cornwall for my son's Passing Out at HMS Raleigh and stayed at this Inn. Really impressed! The rooms very clean, white linens and fluffy towels, tastefully decorated. Christine & Rob excellet hosts, very frirendly and helpful. The pub, a perfect country Inn and does not disturb the quietness in the rooms above. Lovely patio and grounds. The price is excellent - superb value for money. Would highly recommend this B&B for any visiting families to HMS Raleigh. Torpoint is literally 10mins away by car. Good location for the extreme sports quarry opposite and for travelling to Plymouth and surrounding beaches and country villages.

Room Tip: The single room (no. 4) is a little small, but lovely. However, would not suit a large built person.

I spent one night on a business trip at the Sportsman. Located just off the main road, it is very easy to find. When I arrived I was greeted by name. The en-suite room was clean and tidy, the bed comfortable and I had a very good night’s sleep. Not only that but it had plenty of hot water!

A couple of minor points to note. The distance between the toilet and the sink in the en-suite was a little tight but nothing too worrying. One side of the B&B does overlook some railway tracks but the trains are not that frequent to be a problem and I didn’t hear any during the night.

The full English breakfast was a good size, using quality ingredients and very well cooked.

This B&B is friendly and well run, I will definitely be staying again.

Room Tip: One side of the B&B overlooks railway tracks but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review - we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay! Just a note for anyone reading this - yes we are very close to the railway line! The last train (sleeper train) usually goes through between 11.30pm and 12 midnight - there are no trains then until around 6.30am other than the very occasional goods train.....and yes, the en suite is small in this room - we advertise it as 'suitable for the average sized person'!

Four nights at The Sportsman's Arms and I am looking forward to the next time. Christine and Rob made us so welcome, right from the moment we crossed the threshold. Our room was of ample size, comfy bed and everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious and the lovely cosy bar was just right after a full day's sightseeing and rambling around Bodmin Moor. The location is perfect too; just off the A38, within easy reach of Bodmin, Liskeard, Boscastle, Tintagel and a wealth of interesting places - or the seaside if you prefer! Even though the Sportsman's is right by the railway, there was no intrusive noise to disturb the peace and tranquillity of the rural setting. Super!

When we arrived and were greeted by our first names we knew we had arrived in a friendly, family run pub/B&B. Our ensuite room was clean, comfortable and spacious. One of the twin aspect windows overlooked the train tracks, but despite the proximity of the railway, the trains were very quiet and not at all intrusive. We had a light breakfast, which was good value; and for real ale enthusiasts, Cotleigh and Sharp's breweries were available on tap. We would definitely stay here again.
