“Fabulous cottage - A home away from home”
Reviewed 2 October 2012 for a stay in September 2012

My husband and I rented Myrtle Cottage with another couple and we had a fantastic stay despite some changeable weather.
Debbie (the owner) is so friendly and helpful and was happy to allow our cats to stay at the cottage with us (see pic).
The cottage was clean, tidy and well equipped with all mod cons and the wi-fi came in very handy.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and has great views from the kitchen and the 'crows nest' seating area on the rear deck. The beds are so comfy and the bath is very luxurious and perfect for a long soak after an active day.
The cottage is in a great location, just 2 minutes walk from the Harbour Tavern pub which serves great food and about 90 seconds walk from a superior cup of coffee at Cofro coffee shop and gallery.
I visit Mevagissey regularly as I have familty and friends in and around the area so finding a tucked away little gem like Myrtle to stay at was a real treat.

“A truly Cornish treat”

We've just returned from a lovely week at Myrtle - ideally located as its only minutes away from the breakwaters for fishing, restaurants, shops and pubs too. Once we managed to tear ourselves away from the fabulous views of the harbour from the kitchen we spent several days without using the car - getting about by ferry (Fowey), bus (Heligan) and foot (coastal path). The cottage was well stocked with everything that we needed and the information provided about its quirks was useful - we loved the cheerful Post-it notes rather than the stern list of 'Do & Don't' that you sometimes come across.

The wet weather this year has taken its toll on the property which is really sad, though I know that the owner has already started to sort this out so it should be all tidied up. Having a parking permit was a great boon as parking is very limited in the village so it was good to know that this worry was sorted out for us.

We only cooked one meal at the cottage as there are so many places to eat out in Mevagissey - we'd recommend the Fishermen's Chippy and Alvorada in particular. We've also been converted to St Austell Brewery ales and enjoyed them in each of Mevagissey's pubs and bars. The Fountain Inn was our favourite for atmosphere and it does good food too.

Liked best: location within the village of Mevagissey
Liked least: steep stairs - we live in a bungalow so these were a shock to the legs

Thank you for taking the time to post this review. As I explained in my courtesy email to you, the very wet weather for a long time had put a strain on the village drainage system, and we indeed had a problem with the downpipe going into the porch. Without wanting to go into details here with information about your lies regarding raw sewage and supposed messages, not to mention your aggressive attitude to my Housekeeper when you'd realised you'd left coats and your wedding ring, plus the disgusting state you left Myrtle in when you left, I decided to decline your challenge to offer compensation. Needless to say, the smelly-porch situation has now been resolved, and as you quite rightly say, Myrtle is a fabulous place to stay. I too can post your emails and comments from my Housekeeper. I have never been so upset by a visitor to Myrtle in the 6 years I've been renting her to lovely appreciative guests.
