My wife and I stayed here in July 2013 and whilst by no means being the best B & B I have ever stayed in I thought the Fountain Inn had a certain charm about it. The price was reasonable, the breakfasts were good, the pub itself was lively - and included a free performance from the Mevagissey Male Voice Choir! - The landlord Bill and his staff were very friendly and had great local knowledge which was given freely and they all had a smile on their face and nothing was too much trouble - even the removal of a wayward fledgling Seagull which gave us a sleepless first night, but when you are 50 metres from the sea you can't expect not to hear the local wildlife!
The room (Room 1) was clean and tidy with a comfortable four poster bed and although the TV lost it's signal once or twice I wasn't that bothered as it made for a nice escape. The only downside was that it was reached via a narrow spiral staircase which did have a fair amount of bird mess on it but I think it would be like painting the Forth Road Bridge cleaning that up all the time.
In the pub, there were good Real Ales on handpump - the St Austell Brewery HSD was especially good - and a generally good atmosphere in the bar of an evening but there were some downsides such as no parking on site although there was privately owned parking available with a few minutes walk but at a rather hefty price but there is very limited parking in the whole village full stop so it was a case of needs must.
All in all we thought it was decent value...oh, and do visit The Lost Gardens of Heligan which are just up the road which are a real gem!
