We will return to Folkirk Forge. Lovely old town, beautifully renovated cottage, with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Clean and fresh, great views, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen. What more could you want?

“The perfect Cornwall cottage”
Reviewed 26 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Staying at Polkirt Forge was one of the highlights of our trip to the UK. It's a lovely little cottage with absolutely everything you could ever need. We were extremely comfortable, and felt very welcome - from the biscuits and chocolates laid out for us on our arrival, to the helpful notes in the folder, which helped us plan our itinerary.

Mevagissey is picturesque without being overly touristy and a great base from which to explore Cornwall. There is lots to do nearby - including the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan - but pretty much everything is reachable for a day trip. For instance, we drove west one day and visited St Michael's Mount and the Minack Theatre, and then had dinner in St Ives before heading back. On the other hand, if you don't want to drive too far, you can still find heaps to do in and around Mevagissey.

Getting in and out of Mevagissey by car is slightly hair-raising because of the narrowness of the streets, but you will be fine if you take it slowly! Mevagissey has lots of places to eat - other people have mentioned the great fish and chips, and we also very much enjoyed Tea on the Quay for coffee, cakes and cream teas - all their produce seems to be locally sourced and their food is delicious!

Our one regret was that we weren't there for longer. Thoroughly recommend!

“Beautiful, well stocked, well located cottage”

We stopped at Polkirt Forge cottage in Mevagissey and were blown away by how perfect it is.

Excellent communication with owner and Sarah the local cleaner prior to stay. We found the cottage with no problem following the excellent directions and parked for free using the parking permit.

The cottage was found in a world class state of cleanliness with a welcome pack including local info and info on using any of the included gadgets, and fresh milk with tea and coffee and some yummy Cornish biscuits (nice touch). We loved having a look round this charming cottage that was to be our home for the next 5 days. The decor all looked brand new and all the rooms were simply and stylishly furnished and decorated.

The town is within easy reach 2 mins down road and the harbour is 1 minute down the steps, the views, especially from upstairs are something we will never forget, they can become hypnotic though, watching the seagulls and all the boats coming and going from the charming harbour is really special!! My partner is an artist and loved sketching "Harbour Life" I think there will be some masterpieces appearing over the coming weeks!

The local pubs shops and restaurants are all easily reached in minutes and are all well worth a try! Our favourite restaurants were "Salamander" & "Roovrays" both serving excellent fresh local food at very reasonable prices. Try the take away fish and chips from "The Fountain Inn" the best chips ever with lovely fresh battered Cod. We took them back to the cottage to enjoy in comfort.

The little courtyard style garden was another great advantage. As was all the included gadgets, sound system for playing music off your smartphone, you view TV allowing all the catch up TV from last 7 days, excellent ILLY coffee machine, even washing machine, iron, kettle and all the usual things! The WIFI connection is super fast and there are loads of books DVDs maps guide books and leaflets and even games for the kids!

We can't recommend this place enough!!! There must be thousands of holiday rentals in Cornwall but I'm sure they would struggle to beat this in terms of beauty, location, equipment and cleanliness! We didn't want to leave! we can't wait to return to Polkirt Forge in Mevagissey

“Beautiful - comfortable, homely and central.”
Reviewed 22 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

My family stayed for a short three night visit to catch up with grandchildren. It was a very pleasant experience and a wonderful introduction to Mevagissey.
The cottage has everything you could need plus more. It was a short walk into the village with the local shops and pubs and the views from the upstairs sitting room were lovely - especially at night.
We would definitely recommend to friends and family and hope to stay again in the future.

“Perfect home from home!”
Reviewed 29 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

What a wonderful find, photos do not do it justice! Perfect position in lovely village, a few steep steps to harbour or short walk to shops, restaurants and village life. Traditional Cornwall, great views of harbour, a lovely cosy but spacious cottage with everything to hand. Lorraine the housekeeper even waited for our asda shop to arrive before we got there! Can't wait to come back next year! Don't even hesitate to book it's just perfect!

“Delightful cottage in Mevagissey”

Stayed at Polkirt Forge in September and found it absolutely superb. The cottage was a home from home and was so comfortable (particularly the beds) with ample accommodation on two floors. Very conveniently positioned within Mevagissey for the harbour (a 2 minute walk) and within walking distance of many good eateries. Perfect location for other Cornwall beauty spots and attractions such as The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Owners extremely helpful with masses of local information and suggestions provided. Would highly recommend this cottage.

“A relaxing enjoyable stay in beautiful unspoilt Mevagissey”
Reviewed 8 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We found the cottage to be very comfortable and well equipped, and in a great position for wandering around the town and harbour. We sampled the local pubs, fresh caught fish bought from the quayside, and look forward to visiting this lovely, scenic part of Cornwall again.

Thanks for your positive review. Glad you enjoyed Mevagissey - as you say, we are well located if you like freshly caught fish - in a local restaurant or purchased in the harbour and cooked in the cottage! Hope you will come again!
