We have stayed at this inn several times previously, unfortunately on this occasion the property couldn't have let us down more. Upon arrival we were not made to feel particularly welcome and this 'theme' continued. Despite this we ate at the inn, had several pints of good beer, walked around the village (which appeared to have succombed to the credit crunch) and retired to bed. At 10pm, the pub hosted a disco which was apparently a regular occurrence which lasted until 1am. As our room was directly above the bar- it was simply impossible to sleep- the inevitable 'chucking out' caused more noise and frustration. In the morning we were asked if we " had slept well"...
Upon giving our response no explanation or apology was given, we paid the bill and left, with a vow never to return.
We really MUST insist that the property or the central bookings office inform their customers upon booking of any local events which may affect the guest experience.

We stayed at this Inn in August of 2008 for two nights.. We arrived from St Austell by train and the Bus stop is right outside the Ship..Checking in was simple enough and we were shown to our room at the top of the Inn. Room was a very nice size and very clean. we had a family room and have no complaints about the room. Beer in the bar was well kept and a good selection of Real ale. We didnt have dinner in the inn as there are lots of excellent restaurants nearby.
Breakfast was provided and we arrived first and ordered.
When the food arrived myself and my wife recieved ours but not my daughter.. all the other tables were then served and we then recieved my daughters last with no beans as they had "run out"..seemed they seved the adults first and kept the little people till last.. not happy as we had ordered first..The breakfast also followed the mantra of "chuck it in the fryer" When we asked about it there was a real couldn't care less attitude..
A pity as location is excellent, cleanliness is very good...but sometimes it's the little things that let a place down and sadly this is what we remember of the Ship Inn

Excellent pub with happy staff, (especially the afternoon staff who had just gained a degree, they will know who they are!) good atmosphere, low beams. Loved the fish dishes, Moules for starters and scallops for mains, loved the beer. Very clean family room. The room sided onto the road so little bit noisy with goods being unloaded. Would definately go back there though

Possibly biased due to positive honeymoon experience many years ago, but returned in summer of 2004 and found things slightly re-arranged. However, the bed was gloriously comfortable, the little en-suite shower was clean and tidy, and breakfast was very tasty.
Other meals served in the Bar are good value and nicely presented.
