“OK but with two reservations”
Reviewed 14 July 2011

We stayed at Manor Lodge in June in room 2 (the double with en-suite). Megan and Dick were easy going, friendly and welcoming and the room was tastefully furnished. However, neither of us slept very well as the mattress was very lumpy and tired. This was our only complaint about the room.

Breakfast was a hearty one and we had no complaints about the food itself. However, breakfast was spoiled by Dick's 'over-friendliness'. On one occasion, he rested both his hands on the table and leant over it (and us) while we were eating. On another occasion he rested his hand on my wife's back as she was eating (no, I'm not making this up). Afterwards she said she was cringing inside but didn't want to say anything as beneath it all Dick seemed like a nice bloke. I was sat opposite my wife and assumed his hand was on the back of the chair, otherwise I'd have said something. All of this left us both feeling quite uncomfortable.

Finally, I tried to connect to the free wifi (as advertised on their website) while I was there but the signal was so weak in our room that it was practically unusable.

Only stayed one night - in the area for a family wedding. Arrived exhausted and felt immediately at home. Room very comfortable, everything you could possibly need was at hand. Megan and Richard made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was amazing and they made our dog Jack really welcome also. Would recommend anyone looking for accommodation in this area to try Manor Lodge - you will not be disappointed.

We were warmly greeted with a cup of tea when we arrived, and we were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness with no clutter. The room was lovely with a power shower, and the best sleep was had, nice feather duvet. Breakfast was served in the lovely courtyard garden, as it was such a lovely morning, and that lasted us all day, and we were glad we had booked for 2 nights. We have already booked in for our self catering week holiday for next year. So handy to the shops, and much cheaper than Kingsand and Cawsand, yet still just up the road. Cant wait to come back.

Waited outside until "hosts" arrived, smoking and over familiar!
Room very disappointing. Trago Mills furniture. laminate flooring. Bathroom poorly tiled, loose taps, towels thin and poor. One robe, not laundered.
No coffee, 3 poor quality teabags. TV with loose trailing wires.
Breakfast poor quality, Greasy spoon. commercial cereal and yoghurts. Coffee cold and served in mugs. Yuk Yuk Yuk

I am sorry this discerning couple did not appreciate our forwardness and friendliness.
We complimented them on their nice car. I had a feeling they were not happy when they entered the room as people always make lovely comments . We like to make people feel this is a home away from home, not a hotel, very informal, as it is also used as a holiday home. I can assure them it is not 'Trago' funiture. We went to great lengths to pick the right furnishings to match in with this 12th Century house. My towels are of the greatest quality, and I spend most of my half a day off looking for best quality linen. I put my hands up to no coffee in the room, which was rectiified when pointed out, and I did apologise for that, and do so again.
I do a bulk purchase from the wholesalers every three months for food, but sometimes when I start running low I make the purchases from the local village which I believe in supporting anyway.
This is a bed and breakfast, not a luxury hotel.

We found this place by chance when looking for accommodation in Kingsand (which is just up the road) and are so glad we did. Megan and Dick were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble, and the breakfast was AWESOME!! The rooms are beautifully furnished, stylishly modern and comfortable. There's also a lovely lounge to relax in. Its possible to rent out the whole house (which is separate from the owner's accommodation) so if there's a group of you, it would be perfect as there's 3 ensuite rooms. We're coming back in the summer with friends for a weeks holiday we loved it so much. Much better value than Kingsand too!
Lots to do in the area. Wonderful huge sandy beach at Whitsand Bay which you can walk across fields to from the house. There's lots of friendly pubs in the area, our favourites were the Mark of Friendship and the Rising Sun. Its easy to catch the foot ferry to Plymouth where the National Marine Aquarium is, great for the kids on a rainy day.
Oh, and its dog friendly too!

Room Tip: all the rooms are great!

The owners Megan and Dick couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful to us and our Jack Russell. The rooms are smart, modern and comfortable. Wood floors, fab shower and a hearty home-cooked breakfast. Very good "local things to see and do" guide in the room. Just everything you look for in a B&B and none of the things that you don't. And no chintz! Great walking country all around with stunning sea views. The local pubs have great food - try the Rising Sun in Cawsand or the St John Inn.

Megan and Richard are really laid back and accomodating. Our stay was perfect the room and bathroom facilities were excellant, breakfast was really good and it was nice to have freeview tv.

It's in great location Millbrook is perfectly located with all amenities you'd need pubs, cashpoints, supermarkets and a chippy.

Mount Edgcombe is only 3 miles down the road and it is a short journey to the Torpoint Ferry.

I can't recommend it highly enough.
