“Avoid room 9”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Royal for our 30th Wedding anniversary. Our room was on the 1st floor first impressions were good except for the room was very warm/hot.
This room does not have any windows, just a pair of french doors that open onto a balcony, which is fenced and very private, we did however find ourselves having to have these door wide open to sleep, due to the heat from the kitchens under the room. on the adjacent roof is the fan from the kitchen which is very noisy. eventully swithning off around 10.00 pm but turned on again at 07.30 am for breakfast along with the smells of cooking being swept into the room.
Although the room was comfortable and clean it is showing signs of wear.
Big plus for the Royal Inn is the friendly staff.
Food is of a good standard.
From previous reviews that we read and from our experience, I would recommend staying here. With the railway station just across the road leave the car in Royal car park and catch the train, main line station. Noise from the station was not a problem in our room.

Room Tip: Avoid room 9

My wife and I stayed here for two nights after the Whit weekend so that we could visit the Eden Project. It was the perfect location for that trip as it was 10 minutes away by car.
The room was excellent, with a comfortable bed and modern furniture. The evening meal was fine as was the breakfast. It serves good local ales in the bar, which is a bit open and not that restful a place. There is no lounge so if you want to sit and read you will have to use your room or sit outside on the porch.
Par itself is not a resort so the area immediately surrounding the pub is mainly residential, so no picturesque walks after dinner!

Overall, an excellent base for touring this bit of Cornwall, with clean comfortable accomodation at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Some rooms are upstairs and there is no lift.

So glad we found this Inn on the internet we were visiting Eden Project and the locacation of this hotel was perfect,
We found our room very good value for the money. We have stayed in much more expensive rooms elsewhwere that do not have the amenities of this Inn, the small touches like tissues in the room etc. The room was very clean and a good size we stayed in a 4 poster bed room. We ate in the restuarant which was lovely. Will visit this hotel again.

Enjoyed a four night stay here. Very clean and light airy rooms. Good food - both breakfasts and evening meals. Really friendly, welcoming staff who all very accommodating. Ideally situated for trips to Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan and many very pretty coastal villages. Would certainly return.

We stayed on a 3-night off-season short break. The room was clean, well furnished and provided excellent value for money. We only intended eating there the first night then investigating locally for others, but the food was so good we finished up eating there every night!

The staff are friendly and relaxed. There is a good selection of beers, being a Free House. Not being football-fans we steered clear of the bar when that was on, the rest of the time the TV was tuned to a music channel providing background music so it was ok.

Breakfast was freshly cooked and well presented. Quantities were just right.

We stayed in a premier room which included extras such as a DVD and CD player but, as the weather was too good to miss, these were never used. The advertised wi-fi broadband, in common with many hotels we've stayed in, wouldn't work reliably other than down in the bar.

The Eden Project, a must-see attraction, is only a short drive away. The nearest coast is a leisurely walk from the hotel but it is not the most picturesque part of Cornwall - but there are excellent beaches, harbours and so on within a short drive.

We'll definitely stay again.

I just wanted to pass on our comments regarding our stay at the Royal Inn last night. The room was honestly quite fantastic… It really does set the standard for what a hotel should provide! The team were really very pleasant and the breakfast was quite honestly wonderful!

Just 2 points, I wondered if you could turn the heating up a little! The restaurant and our room were pretty chilly all night! Another guest in the restaurant kept her coat on for most of the meal! And, although the meal we had in the restaurant was gorgeous it did surprise me that you have quite a small and selective menu. Just my personal thoughts, the food we had was lovely though! The stay was lovely, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the hotel was immaculate!

Good Job!!

Have to agree with a previous comment. If you use the Royal Inn solely as B and B then the room, food, waiting staff etc cannot really be faulted. Good value for money too. However, we like to spend a fair bit of time relaxing with a drink when not in our room, out exploring etc and we found the bar most unwelcoming, the locals were friendly enough but the bar area was very sparse, all pine kitchen tables and chairs and bare floor. We avoided it for the first two nights but decided to venture in on our third and final night. We got chatting to a local lady, her son and her visiting relatives. We were all having a nice time when we noticed that it was a certain time and one of us asked if the television that was playing in the background could be switched over to a certain channel (the football had finished I hasten to add!). We got a point blank NO. Then on trying to explain we were told that people came in to avoid that particular programme. It would not have been quite so bad but there was only one other table in the bar area. The bloke serving at the bar even came and apologised and said that if had been up to him and not the boss we could have switched the television over. Needless to say we none of stayed in the bar any longer.
