Went here for a nice family meal, but didn't receive one. Waited ages for the food to arrive. When the food did arrive, it was of poor quality and not as described, nor as one would have expected from the Menu description. To put it in plain English (or Cornish if you're a local party like us) - if you can convince your family that you should try it over other outlets, and if you can deal with your family's complaints about their hunger and the long wait, and if you can justify the expenditure of your hard earned cash on low quality provisions, and finally; after all that, if you can then NOT think about any of the other local places you could have eaten like one of the other Restaurants, Pubs or Takeaways nearby, then carry on, eat at the Wheal Tor - YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

Disaster! Dirty and uncomfortable bedroom. It would seem some guests had better treatment than others. If you weren't up early enough for breakfast others got the 'nice' bread and the only table with a view. The hosts didn't even bother being around to say goodbye! Importantly for us, the place just wasn't clean.

Such a shame, too many things wrong with this place, but could be so good. Location fantastic, but spoilt by lack of attention to guests needs. No soap or toilet roll in any toilets. Cutlery and crockery dirty, breakfast room carpet dirty. My bedroom very dirty and full of cobwebs, damp too. Sorry, but wouldn't recommend or go back.

Described by the lady at the next table as bonkers, can see what she meant and it was actually a good kind of bonkers. The owners were away so the neighbours were looking after the place. This entailed looking after the guests, making the food and serving at the restaurant, serving the drinks at the bar and feeding all the animals. To say it was a full time job was an understatement. Food was great and the atmosphere was friendly. The locals came for drinks at night which added to the ambience. So if you're wanting somewhere that's a little out of the ordinary but filled with character then look no further, Wheal Tor's your place !

Excellent stay, outstanding location far from the noisy world, lot of animals around, cozy atmosphere, great food, beautiful and clean room, total relax and peace of mind, nice bar and fantastic lounge; this family run hotel is highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room called Seccombe, just great, next to the superb lounge and exit to the parking

Just had a 5 night stay at this wonderful little gem. This may not be the poshest but it is definitely the best hotel we have ever stayed at. The owners made us very welcome and after a refreshing taste of the local beer, showed us to a lovely room and beautiful resident's lounge. They were a wealth of information about lovely and interesting places to visit. The views from the hotel are stunning and on good days they can be enjoyed from the tables out front. Great food, including the best sticky toffee pudding we have ever tasted and their own delicious home-made bacon and sausages and gammon steaks. The locals are also very friendly, which made for some most enjoyable evenings in the bar. Loved the chickens and especially the guinea fowl that run free, and mustn't forget the pigs and the lamb. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a break away from it all, and plan to return sometime again.
