“Charming B&B in a great location”
Reviewed 10 March 2013

This is the third B&B i have ever stayed in over my life, and certainly the best one to date.

Whenever i think of a B&B i always think of somewhere that feels like a home, and this was very much the case with trevian lodge.

Its a converted cornish cottage, but has been modernised fantastically. on first impression my room looks fresh , and there is lots of light with an excellent view of perranporth.

The Bed was extremely comfy, the bedroom was clean, and the tea and coffee in the room was well stocked.

The bathroom was really nice, really modern and the shower was amazing.

Breakfast in the morning was made to order, the night before we were asked what time we would like breakfast the next morning which was a nice touch, and there was a fridge in the breakfast room with fresh milk and fresh orange juice, and we were informed to help ourselves to tea toast or cereal if we got up earlier than we had asked for breakfast for.

All in all i'd say that trevian lodge was actually better than allot of hotels i have stayed in , and i have travelled the world and stayed in many places.

Not only will i be returning, but i will be telling all my friends and family that should they come to cornwall, this is the place to stay.

Plus its only 8 miles down the road from newquay, although the surf in perranporth is amazing.

Perranporth its self has allot to offer, with a beautiful sandy beach and coast, which you can see from my pictures. to top it all of it was nice and sunny, and also the wurzells were playing in the wateringhole which is the bar on the beach which i found amusing.

I decided to take a trip away to Cornwall with my partner, and we hit on Perranporth because it looked just right. There's a certain delight to be had from going to touristy places out of season - you get to see aspects of the surroundings you wouldn't get normally.

Trevian Lodge is a clean tidy guesthouse that is a converted cottage. It's got stone walls that are a metre thick, and it looks like it's been extended over and over. So, you go into this lovely warm tiled hallway and there's a staircase going up to the rooms. The landing is kind of crazy, splitting up another short flight depending on whether you want to go to the front or the back of the house. I had a look at the other bedrooms, and there's a family room at the back, too.

Our room was a warm, tidy room with a view down to the sea. It was great, waking up to see the blue sea and the massive beach in the distance, and hearing the sad cry of the gulls wheeling above the house. I slept really well, and though it was mid-winter, I needed to open the window because the house was so cosy.

The bathroom was comfortable and well-appointed, with decent amounts of hot water, though I did notice a slight drop off of pressure at one point, which I think was to do with the washing machine going on downstairs. But very neatly presented and very clean indeed.

The bed was v comfy and we came back to the room to find the bed nicely made up every day. The sausages at breakfast were also to die for. Really excellent. A very nice breakfast with as much toast and tea as you can eat and drink.

Our hosts, Nick and Jenny were really attentive and easygoing. Nick really wanted to be sure that everything was right for us at breakfast, and actually I felt a bit pampered, considering this was a simple B and B and not a hotel. We had the place to ourselves.

They let you make your cups of tea and coffee and hang out in the dining room in the day, if it's raining, and they also provide loads of board games and books if you just want to chill out. I thought it was pretty cool, actually.

The hotel is close to lots of amenities and sites. Pubs with bands, the Bedruthian Steps (spectacular) and Padstow, which is a quaint fishing village. It's also close to the dog-friendly Perranporth Beach.

Trevian Lodge is a great place to explore from. It's clean and cosy and warm, and is the base from which you can enjoy the beach, the countryside, the museums or the towns. The host and hostess are great and pretty flexible about what time they're doing brekky. I've got to say, having stayed at a few places that seemed to be run by people who gave you only half an hour to be up or else you don't eat, this attitude was most welcome.

I've given this a 4 out of 5 only because I would only give a 5 if the place had been extraordinary. I would say this is a cut above the rest, though. Good views and only about a 4 minute walk from the beach. It's also far enough away from the centre to ensure you don't get kept awake by jolly japes down there if you're visiting at a busy time. Oh, yes, there's parking on their drive, too.

I think that just about covers it. Had a lovely stay!

When we started running Trevian Lodge as a B&B we used the back rooms with their shared bathroom as family rooms. We have now converted these into two en-suites bedrooms, one of which has a king sized bed which can be split into two singles. As we no longer have facilities for children to stay in the same room as their parents we do not take children under the age of seven. This suits many of guests very well, especially those looking for peace and quiet in a fantastic beach setting.
