“Beautiful hotel - wonderful stay”
Reviewed 28 October 2012

This is a beautiful hotel with a magnificent view. The owners were so hospitable. We arrived very late at night - well after the restaurant had closed but the owner made us soup and sandwiches, which was very good. The hotel is quite isolated, but for us that didnt matter because both the formal restaurant and bistro were lovely with amazing views, so we didnt need anything more. The staff were helpful and very friendly. There is a beautiful walk along the cliff top to Polperro which we did one afternoon. We had a sea view room and it was so peaceful and pleasant to sit in. It is certainly the place for a relaxing holiday, but you do need a car to get to other places easily. We will definately go back.

We recently stayed at this hotel for a four night break to celebrate a special birthday.

Just approaching the hotel at the end of a long country lane, the view simply took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes it was so lovely.

Our king-size bedroom (4) was very good with a view over the garden, lawn and the sea beyond.
The fine dining room is stunning and food excellent. The service was exceptionally good from start to finish.

The brasserie is similar to a long cocktail bar .. ie bar, small glass round tables with velvet covered bucket seats and a small lounge area at the far end. The food and menu are excellent.

The breakfast is served in the fine dining restaurant and second to none.

Talland Bay Hotel is an idyllic retreat and one we hope to return to in the future.

Room Tip: Choose sea view if possible

Just returned from a long weekend, relaxing, tranquil, comfortable...the food is exquisite ..staff were very friendly, very helpful. The setting, the views, the gardens are perfect.

The hotel is quite isolated if you don't have a car.

If you need a relaxing break with excellent food this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Room 30 had its own small patio with table and chairs

I booked in here from the internet for an anniversary. Although the website pictures looked nice I was still not sure as pictures can be deceiving. I was therefore blown away by how fabulous this place really is - the website pictures do not even begin to do it justice! Luxurious, sumptuous, heavenly, relaxing, relaxed, brilliant food and lovely people. Need I say more?
If you book in here you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to book again!

We stayed in room 20 for two nights, which is a well-appointed sea-facing room, nicely decorated and with a smallish but perfectly adequate bathroom. The bed was comfortable but we should have opted for a king size-bedded room on reflection.

As others have said the hotel is quirky with lots of interesting ornaments/paintings/figures dotted around both inside and in the lovely gardens. Each time I rounded the corner to the reception I was aware that a guest was sitting outside the hotel only to find... Well, you'll have to discover for yourself! Although visually interesting the public rooms are somewhat limited. We didn't particularly warm to the residents' lounge though the brasserie and dining room were both comfortable.

I have to say that the hotel scores very highly with the quality of its food. We ate dinner twice and found the menu to be interesting and the food both well cooked and attractively presented. Highlights were a gorgeous hake loin with lovely crispy skin, fillet of beef and an unusual savoury cheese custard with pears for dessert. Oh, and the lemon posset with popcorn ice cream and honeycomb was a triumph! Wines were excellent. Breakfast was plentiful and varied with dinky jars of thick yoghurt accompanied by excellent dried fruit compote a highlight.

The staff were attentive, friendly and cheerful throughout our stay although we did feel service was occasionally a little turbocharged!

We were lucky with the weather during our stay and were able to walk to both Polperro and Looe on consecutive days along the coast path. Although not long in distance we were glad we chose walking boots because of the slippery conditions and occasionally steep gradients.

This hotel may not suit everyone due to its relatively isolated location and lack of facilities but if you like to dine well and stay in comfortable accommodation overlooking the stunning Cornish coast then you won't be disappointed in the slightest.

Funniest feature: the dining chairs are almost impossibly impractical in design (though very attractive) resulting in the staff having to slide you into position. Unfortunately, you're sometimes left to try to achieve this weighty task on your own and I overheard a guest at breakfast asking her partner if he would like to be pushed closer to the table!

We could have stayed much longer than two nights at the Talland Bay Hotel. We were upgraded to the best room in the house, with a terrace overlooking the sea for our stay at the english version of 'the beach'! The view was stunning as was the coast. We spent our day off walking the 3 miles into and back from the lovely village of Looe, although we were pleased we stayed in this more secluded hotel.

My partner really enjoyed the references to cats in decor, and I liked the food at both the restaurant and excellent brasserie. The hosts, although pleasantly eccentric, looked after us and made us feel welcome after they were comfortable that we were not young trouble makers (late 20's!).

One of our favourite hotel's in England.

Room Tip: A sea view is a must, the room with the terrace if you can.

Stunning location, excellent attention to detail.Quirky and interesting and it also accomodates dogs! Our friends who also stayed were impressed with the service accorded their dog!
I love it because the owners are always kind and interested in speaking with you, it is obvious they put their heart and soul into this venture and they deserve to do well. The rooms have great beds, lovely furnishings and White Company products. We love room 9, because it has a fabulous balcony and views and plenty of space. The bistro always serves great food and the breakfasts are excellent with scrummy yogurts and fruits, croissants and juices and and excellent cooked choice, the haddock and poached egg is fab!

Room Tip: Room 9 is excellent, but all the others are lovely.
