Nice little pub but that is about it, average to good meals, but good hosts.we went in December so probably more atmosphere in high season. There was a nice fire to keep warm.

Staying just up the hill The Rising Sun was convenient for our evening meal. The food was fresh, tasty, well cooked and very plentiful. We received a warm and friendly welcome.

As my wife and I are 'old farts' now we remember 'proper pubs' which we used to love and this is as good as you can get in that respect. So many pubs these days are pretentious and like to call themselves restaurants whereas the Rising Sun is obviously very much still a pub but does good, simple food at reasonable prices. We went there several times in May 2013 and will be going back when we're in that area again this month.

Reading the other reviews I see somebody gave this place 1 star and said it wasn't child friendly. Well, if you want a theme park with climbing frames in the garden and free range children running around the bar screaming and completely unchecked by their parents then there are plenty of places like that for you to go to. Our dog is better behaved, quieter and has better manners when eating than an awful lot of children these days and it was wonderful to be made to feel welcome by staff and locals alike.

The only reason I gave the Rising Sun 4 stars instead of 5 is that it didn't sell Dark Mild which would really make it like a proper old pub (showing my age again) but then hardly any pubs do now as not many breweries supply it so you can hardly blame the Rising Sun for that.

Recommended for a visit and meal by our guest house hosts and certainly wasn't disappointed by the reception and of course the meal. Side order portions were huge and all well cooked. Only one minus was having to walk past the locals smoking area right o/s the entrance but other than that no complaints.
