Reviewed 26 June 2014

We have stayed at Valley Cottage before and thought it was so good that we had to go again. This time we brought our friends because we wanted to show off our brilliant find.We came to Cornwall to visit Perranporth but I still wanted to stay with Mike and Sue even though it's not close to Perranporth. We had some lovely cheese and biscuits when we got there, even though we were a bit late in the evening.
Again it was spotlessly clean. Sue had made some bircher as a new addition to the breakfast menu, it's oats soaked overnight in apple juice. It was so nice to try something new and I've made some at home! It's so peaceful at this B&B and Mike and Sue are so friendly, We've slept in both rooms now and the bed's are so comfortable. There really is everything you need.
I definitely recommend this B&B and give it 10 out of 10

Thank you Jackie and Martin, a return visit is a great compliment, especially as you brought your lovely friends with you this time. Glad you enjoyed the additions to the breakfast menu and slept well in both of our big rooms. It goes without saying that we hope you return!!
Best wishes, Mike & Sue

We had the pleasure of staying at Valley Cottage for 4 nights definately too short next time will be longer, Sue and Mike a lovely couple made us feel so welcome it was like visiting friends.

All three bedrooms are very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, just like the rest of this lovely house, with a beautiful garden and terrace.

Breakfast was fantastic always "served with a smile" no wish was left open thanks to our perfect Hosts.

Portmellon is within walking distance to Mevagissy for eating out, plenty of Restaurants and Pubs, also very close to local attractions Eden Project, The lost Gardens of Heligan etc...

We will definately be recommending this beautiful B&B to all our friends and will definately be coming back...

Thank you once again Sue and Mike for 4 wonderful nights in your beautiful home

Thank you Wendy and Karl-Heinz, for such a wonderful review. You were such good fun, it was as good as and better than having friends to stay, because you paid us!
Hope we can welcome you back again in the not too distant future.

We stayed at Valley Cottage in November 2013. (Sorry about late review). The B&B is what every B&B should aspire to. (We are in the trade so know what we're talking about). The décor is fresh, crisp and clean with beautifully painted furniture giving a bright contemporary feel. Mike and Sue are the perfect hosts and are keen to share their knowledge of this beautiful part of South Cornwall. Valley Cottage is nestled in a wooded valley, literally one minutes walk from the sea. The bustling port of Mevagissey is only a short walk away along the coast road and the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden Project are also very near. We will certainly be recommending Valley Cottage to all our friends and hope to visit again ourselves soon.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Loft Room - absolutely lovely, but then, so are all the other rooms too :-)

Thank you Alison and Paul, your comments are very flattering. As you mentioned you are also in the B&B trade so we are especially pleased with your review. It was a pleasure having you to stay and we hope to see you again at the end of another successful season.

We cannot recommend this beautiful B&B highly enough! We stumbled upon it when searching online & we are so glad that we did! We were drawn to the beautiful location & stylish décor, & we were not disappointed. After a long drive down to Cornwall (in the rain) we had a very warm welcome from Mike & Sue, & even had slices of cake left for us in our room on arrival (the house smelt of delicious food the whole time we were there!). The room was perfect, spotless and a great size. We have stayed in many hotels, all over the world, but we think this one was our favourite!

Mike & Sue were chatty & friendly, & they were very relaxed about breakfast times and when we came and went. Breakfast was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble!

The house itself is stunning, only a stones throw from the sea and a 10 minute walk from Mevagissey. (Mike & Sue even provided us with a torch so that we could walk back from the pub safely in the evenings!)

We ate in a number of local pubs & restaurants during our 3 day stay and all of them were charming; The Ship Inn had good value pub grub and a fun pub quiz on Tuesday nights, The Fountain Inn served great food with a very cosy and welcoming atmosphere (our favourite and very dog friendly!) and the Indian restaurant, although we can’t remember the name, served the best curry we’d had in years.

Nothing more to say really, other than thanks again Mike & Sue, we have told all our friends and family about you and we hope to be able to visit you again in the future! (In the meantime we’ve got the paintbrushes out in an attempt to recreate your lovely home!)

Thank you Jo, actually, we thought that you were perfect guests!
We're really pleased that you found us, because it was a pleasure having you and Ed to stay. Hope you got back in time for your dental appointment and the pain has gone.
We'd love to welcome you back in the future.

I can't recommend this lovely B&B highly enough. The house is a new build and not what we would normally look for but what a fabulous place. Sue has a fantastic eye for design and has created a B&B with charm, character, personality and comfort. Mike and Sue are lovely people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to look after you. Mevagissey is a very short walk and you can borrow a torch if you need one.

Breakfast is delicious and served at anytime. Having stayed at a considerably more expensive B&B in Mousehole the night before my first visit which could only offer me toast for breakfast before 9am, it was refreshing to be cheerfully served a cooked breakfast at 7:30am.

Spotlessly clean, crisp and comfortable, we have stayed there since and would again if in the area.

Thank you Lisa, for your positive review, we were talking about you recently and wondered how the house hunt was going. We try to be flexible here and are very happy to serve early breakfast, so that guests can make the most of their day.
Let us know when you open your own B&B.

My husband and I are what we would consider quite well traveled and would not normally stay in a bed and breakfast as we felt we wouldn't feel comfortable staying what is essentially someones home. However this was certainly not the case here! We chose to stay here as we just needed an overnight stay to look at a possible wedding venue in the area, from the moment we arrived we instantly felt at home, Sue and Mikes home is just beautiful and simply 'faultless'. We had the attic room, it was immaculate. We decided to go into Mevagissey for a meal that evening and Mike drove us into town and insisted that we call him to pick us up!! The breakfast that was produced in the morning was simply beautiful we really never have stayed anywhere like this, the attention to detail was outstanding. Sue and Mike really did go above and beyond to make our stay most enjoyable. My only regret is that i didn't post this review sooner! Thanks for a most wonderful stay.

My husband and I found this wonderful place quite by accident, and had we had more time, we would have happily stayed longer. Actually, we would have happily moved in permanently. Our room overlooked the terraced garden which even in the blustery and misty weather that we experienced, was a really lovely place to be. There was a little summer house where we could sit and drink hot chocolate and eat the lovely shortbread provided, while listening to the rain come down. In the Summer it must be amazing because it looks like a proper sun-trap. The room itself was very beautifully designed and furnished, yet very practical. It was spacious and had everything we needed. It just felt so relaxing and is perfect for a romantic weekend away. Sue and Mike were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. As locals, they are very knowledgeable about the area, and know all the best walks. Portmellon Cove is only a short walk from Mevagissey, about 15 minutes, and you get to see wonderful views of the sea, so we highly recommend this lovely cottage as a gorgeous place to stay.

Room Tip: We were shown all the rooms and they are lovely, but the garden room is extra special.
