“Fantastic Hotel for a Wedding”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

We held our wedding and reception at The Penventon. Ian Croucher, the Events Manager, could not have been more helpful. He was with us through all the planning, and there with us all through our wedding day as Master of Ceremonies. The hotel is a great venue for a wedding, we had our ceremony and the reception in the Forum Room, which is a great room, full of opulent decor. The hotel provide everything you need for your special day, flowers for the tables, a gorgeous archway, red carpet, a lovely antique table and chairs for signing the register. We had an old fashioned buffet and wine for our reception and the food was wonderful as was the wine. This was all fantastic, but it was the little touches that we noticed. Such as Ian coming to our room to get our room decorations, table favours etc and sorting them all out, calming my nerves just before the ceremony, guiding us to where we should be and when, all the things you worry about as a bride! We decided to stay on in the hotel for a couple of extra days, and we had the honeymoon suite. This is a fantastic room, with the largest most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, with great cotton sheets, lovely soft armchairs with footstools and a lovely bathroom. It has great antique furniture throughout the hotel, fitting in really well with the Georgian building. The hotel staff gave us the best service we have ever experienced, right down to phoning us on the morning of our wedding day to see if we wanted a full service of the room or just clean towels, replenishing teas, coffees etc. They also offered to change my dads room, without us even asking, as they noticed he had mobility issues, so phoned our room to ask if he would prefer a ground floor room. The food at the Penventon is fantastic. The breakfast is a great variation, anything from a continental breakfast, fresh fruit and cereals, up to eggs benedict, salmon, and Full English. All in all a great hotel, with superb service and great food. An ideal venue for a wedding, with great decor and furniture, creating great photo opportunities and also lovely outside grounds which are great for weddings. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The Honeymoon/Celebration Suite is great, as are the Garden Suites. Plenty of room and nice French d...

A last minute decision to have a few days in Cornwall took us to the Pentventon Park Hotel and we could not have wished for a better time. We had the three day short summer break package even though it is now September. The staff were extremely friendly, the food was excellent and as stated in the hotel website we relaxed in a decadent atmosphere. Yes we had to wait to be seated in the restaurant but that was all part of the experience, choosing from the menu whilst enjoying a cocktail at the bar and then being escorted to our table to enjoy excellent gourmet food - a great experiance which we hope to repeat.

I had read some reviews of this hotel where people hadn't enjoyed themselves so wasn't hopeful at all. This wasn't helped by being shown to a tiny room overlooking a patio where people were having drinks. Said we didn't like the room and the manager came up, very apologetic and took us to another room which was much larger, had a bath, shower and a patio so was pleased with the way he handled that. Found the staff very helpful and were pleased that our room was quiet, we were a bit worried about being near a wedding that was being held there, you know thumping music all night but that didn't happen. We didn't have dinner in the hotel so can't comment on that but the breakfast was very nice and there was a lot of choice although on the second morning the waitress seemed a bit dippy bringing us our coffee over with milk already in it even though we hadn't asked for it and I asked if we could sit anywhere and she said "at the moment" and the place was empty, just seemed a bit unhelpful but maybe it was her first day. There was a pool but we didn't have time to use it but it looked a reasonable size. I think it must be the only place locally to have a meal though as you could barely move in the evening in the bar with people waiting to be seated in the restaurant. The decor was quite flamboyant and not to everyone's taste although we didn't mind it. We had an enjoyable stay and would stay there again.

Given that in Cornwall we are lucky to have many beautiful hotels that can host a wedding, very few can accommodate the numbers we had nor provide an excellent service from the first introduction to our departure the following day.

Planning a wedding is a stressful and emotional roller coaster for most brides and I cannot thank Amy Butler enough for making our dream day become a reality. She couldn't of been more helpful, more efficient and was always available to come up with suggestions and guidence.
I wanted lots of personal touches and had specific ideas to create a unique day which would refected 'us'. Amy would say 'we can have and do anything you wish' and she was true to her word to the very end.
Amy was with me for the entire journey from the planning, meetings and preparations to the actual day where her smiley face came up to check on the bride and her party...reasurring me it was going to be fine. She took control being a brilliant 'master of ceremonies' for the day, managing her team perfectly through breakfast till the end at midnight. We just can't thank her enough for all her hard work and genuine kindness... she brought customer service to a new level...brilliant !!

We had over 27 children (including our own) at our wedding so safety was a worry for us but she assured us that with her able team that they would be fine and they were.
The wedding team on the day were utterly amazing keeping the children all together and away from other areas of the hotel.

The ceremony went like a dream; then the pimms and canapes were perfect outside in the sun on their beautiful grounds; then our wedding breakfast which we chose the menu for.

All our guests have commented on how amazing the food was, large portions of the highest standard of delicious food, how the team offered them more helpings, they couldnt of been more attentive to each individual guest. FABULOUS !! The breakfast went like clockwork, the timings were perfect so there were no lulls waiting for our next course or plates to be cleared... amazing really.
The food is always a talking point for guests and can probably make or break their experience of their day... and for ours it was a huge hit !! We know the standards of food at the Penventon are high but to achieve this for such a large number of guests was an achievement!!
We must say the reception team, housekeeping and obviously the talented chefs deserve a thank you too. All very smart, polite and incredibly helpful and most importantly all with smiles !!!!

We had Mr B's vintage ice cream van come later in the day and luckily the sun stayed out for us which was an addtional lovely touch which everyone loved.

The evening do was brilliant fun with a band then disco.. and yet more food. We chose this menu too which was a hit with our friends and additional family.

Our honeymoon suite was lovely with a very comfortable, huge four poster bed which you could sleep in all day if you wished.

We had an enormous breakfast before we departed onto our honeyday.. which lasted until dinner time.

I would obviously put the Penventon Hotel as a first choice for any event given their excellent customer service and standards.

The decor and style is very traditional but not shabby (Downton Abbey) We did look at several modern/beach style venues but they were missing key elements.. customer service, attention to detail, various limitations that weren't suitable for us and we felt we were just 'another wedding enquiry' which is not a good impression for your 'special day'.

Well Done to each department in the hotel.................

You made our day memorable for us and all our family and friends....
We are still getting calls and emails singing your praises.................
Brilliant !!!!!!

Visited the hotel in August 2012 for 4 nights. We were on a business trip with a large group booking. The hotel and their staff were excellent throughout. All our requests were all accommodated. The staff were really helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

When our camping holiday went wrong, we managed to get a family room for 2 nights. The staff were very accommodating, with excellent leisure and spa facilities for the family. Loved the trickets for sale, that are displayed in the reception, that the Owner brings back from his travels.

If I had to give a critical aspect, it was the bathroom taps were "value range" and that the bath had to have a quick rinsedown before we could use it. But, we must add, my partner and I are very OCD on communal bathrooms! Therefore, unless you are as bad as us, you'd not have a problem with the rooms. Allowing for our "disorder", it was not a factor enough that we had to communicate it to the Hotel.

Even the "aftercare" was second to none. When we'd returned home, we had misplaced a mobile phone. The phone was found by the hotel staff, stored in the safe and returned with compliments.

A note to sat nav users. If you programme with the hotels postcode, you may be taken, as were we, into a less than salubrious housing estate, but programme the hotels name in and you'll be taken to the right place.

A perfect end to a family holiday. We will return.

Enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: Due to the secluded nature of the Hotel, choose a room to meet your budget and spacial requirements.

My husband and myself stayed here this on the indulgence break, it has been the most amazing and faultless break i have ever been on! The hotel room was immaculate and a good size with everything you could ever need in your room.
The spa is perfect (could do with losing the pop music though and replacing it with something more relaxing) and whole dining experience was amazing, right from the beautiful dining room to the welcoming warm atmosphere, we were both quite overwhelmed especially when the pianist began playing, such a lovely touch. The meal itself was cooked to perfection, with good portion sizes, plenty of choice and every detail had been though of.
We thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails very much and again were impressed at the presentation and choice.
The staff were all friendly and really helpfull, nothing was too much trouble. I would definately reccommend this hotel to a friend, i loved our stay here and will definately be back. Well done Penventon! :)

Room Tip: the garden suites have back doors leading to decking and a beautiful garden area. Apparently theres...
