“A delight as always”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

This was our third stay at Driftwood and was as good as ever. The staff have the wonderful ability, and excellent training no doubt, to enable them to be very friendly and relaxed but always provide top rate service. On one evening there was an obnoxious and loud guest at a table who insisted on quizzing his waiter about his personal and career life. This was dealt with with great charm and courtesy.

We tried a new room this time, upstairs over the bar. Although it was in the lowest category we thought it was delightful. The views are superb, the bed a delight, the radio on quietly on playing classical music when we arrived. The bathroom was small but perfectly OK. We'd happily go back there again.

One night we had the tasting menu with wines - not cheap, but really excellent. It didn't help our ability to have a 10 mile walk the next day though! Our next meal had one or two items we weren't so keen on but maybe a matter of choice. It was sunday night ? whether the main chef was on. Breakfast gorgeous.

We will go back as soon as we can. A real treat.

This was the only restaurant with onea star in Guide Michelin in Cornwall. Me and my partner hadn't been to any restaurant of that kind before.

Instantly when entering the restaurant, or actually the hotel reception, we noticed the warm and nice service. Even if we were about 40 minutes early (reservation at 18:45 Sunday Oct 20) we got imediate attention and escorted to one of their two lounges/living rooms. From the window one had an wonderful view of the ocean. Very romantic!

In the living room we got drinks, some delicious apertisers and the menu. I had the lamb which was very tender, and my partner had fish.

The starter and the dessert was also amazing. But what I liked most was the complementary treats from the chef, both to the starter and the dessert.

What I also noticed was their effective and smart service. Me and my partner are both fast eaters, and was noticed by our servants, so we didn't need to wait for anything. Everything was delivered just in time=)

We recieved a very generous gift of a voucher for the Driftwood, Rosevine for our wedding and have only just had chance to use it! Firstly, the staff had no issue honouring the voucher even though it was some months old (21mths to be exact!!!) So full marks!

We live in Cornwall so the journey to the south coast was a doddle but if you don't know the area, please check your maps as there are lots of little lanes to confuse you!

As we got nearer the hotel, there was plenty of clear signage and we arrived in plenty of time. At reception, we were greeted by Stuart who took us to our room. The rooms are small but very cosy and we were in the newer part of the building, purpose built rooms. We had a ground floor room with a small private terrace with views out to the sea.

Going into the hotel for a drink, the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful and the whole place feels like home. Lovely details everywhere and overall a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

So on to dinner - beautiful. Chris Eden's Michelin Star is well deserved. Nothing much more to report really, wines are sensibly priced and a good choice, the food is super fresh with an emphasis on local fresh produce and all cooked to perfection. The venison loin starter was sublime and the brill main was cooked to perfection. Service was attentive but not cloying and intelligent, the staff react to you and don't just give a pat performance. The dining room is intimate and on our visit was somehow rather subdued, my only minor niggle.

The bed was huge and very comfortable and we had the best night's sleep in a hotel in ages. Coffee is brought to your room in the morning and we sat out on the terrace enjoying the slightly misty morning air.

All in all, the Driftwood isn't cheap and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a long stay but certainly a few nights to enjoy the dining experience and explore the local area is a worthwhile treat.

You always know you've enjoyed a short break when you pay with a smile and barely look at the bill. A beautiful place in a beautiful location with a staff to be proud of. Five stars!!!

This was our 4th visit in 3 years and I hope this continues to be a tradition with us! I love everything about Driftwood, it just gets "it" right. The décor is so soothing and stylish, all pale blue, white and cream with seaside type decorations which look just right for the location. We have had a different bedroom each visit and they have all been lovely but probably this latest one when we were on the first floor in an outside block of 4 rooms was the best as the view was the best. We could lie in bed and see the sea and the rocky shoreline through the full length windows. The hotel is very smoothly and professionally run by the owners, the staff are all friendly and efficient. The food is wonderful - from exquisite little canapés, too good bread hot from the oven, very moreish home made pecan granola at breakfast, cake at tea to the main event of dinner. Every dish looked artistic and appetising on the plate and each mouthful was delicious.

i took the Mrs here for a birthday meal, unbeatable food and impeccable service, especially as im acquainted with a Coeliac by dessert we were done, full to the brim so as a special treat the kitchen staff created a dish for her dessert by way of Writing on a plat which read "Happy Birthday...." couldn't believe they went to the trouble they had done. will be returning here but saving for special occasions - well recommended to host dinner evenings for clients also.

all in all.. Fantastic evening

We spent three nights here in mid-August and loved it. The hotel is in a marvellous location and has far reaching views of the sea as well as being on the coastal path, which makes it perfect for walks in either direction. We ate in the restaurant on each night of our stay and thought the food amongst the best we've ever had (and we've eaten in some very good restaurants). We would echo previous reviewer's comments about the staff and the owners - their attention to detail and attentiveness is just right. We often say we will return when we have had an enjoyable experience at an hotel or restaurant - we certainly hope to have the opportunity to do so here.

Room Tip: Room 12 for itsown deck area.
