Popped in here after a few hours on seaton beach nearby, had a few games of pool and followed it with a bit of lunch with the family which was pretty good.staff were fine as for the menu, yet again its a decent basic menu but the food itself was good.No complaints really.

...and not everywhere is...particularly useful so close to the beach. Food has improved under the new management. Sunday carvery good value but it is worth booking a table. No local ales on draught but that is a minor point.

Totally disorganised. Messed up our booking - fortunately we phoned the day before, if not we would have had accomodation for only one night. They did sort it out. On arrival we were not offered the free wine as per the wowcher offer, but told breakfast was included. Room was tidy and clean, venue itself very dated with an unfriendly bar. Breakfast day one was good (cooked by Mum), the next was delayed by half an hour (they forgot their keys) and food at best average. On the friday night / saturday morning the road and car park at the sea front was used as a racetrack, with cars revving loudly and performing doughnuts - very noisy and disturbing. On departure told we owed £20 for the breakfasts - they were not included! Then we were delayed further whilst they tried to work out how the credit card machine worked. Not a good experience,

I guess they are expecting another bad review. Well here it is. We arrived at 13:00 hours on Friday as arranged after a car journey of 310 miles. The welcome was subdued as they were getting ready for a "Halloween Party" 7 hours later. Every other place we have stayed at we have been greeted with a smile and a cup of tea whilst the paperwork is dealt with. This time we got "your not expecting food are you". We did however get a sandwich and a beer which was not graciously arranged. Whilst doing the paperwork we were told that there was going to be the Halloween Party that night from 20:00 to 00:30 and it would be noisy. This was a bit annoying as I had spoken to them on Monday before hand and no mention was made of the party. We could have a room in the mothers house 3 miles away although she was obviously not that keen. We decided to stick with the room but wished that we had picked up our bags and left then as worse was to come. We went over to Looe for something to eat and returned to The Smugglers Inn at around 20:00 and the music was loud and our room was pretty much directly above the music. It was late October and the first very cold weekend of the winter. There was a radiator in the room but the heating was due to come on at 18:00. By the time we got back from our meal in Looe at 20:00 it had gone off again. The electric heater worked for 3 minutes when I turned it on and then packed up.We decided that we might as well go down and join the party as Seaton has absolutely nothing else to offer. Just before 23:00 we retired for the night only to be disturbed by someone trying to get in to the room with what sounded like a key and then banging on the door. This was after they had already been told by the owner not to go up the stairs because they had guests. A few minutes later there was a repeat performance after which I went down to complain. I was told that it would not happen again and she would see to it. The offender was pointed out to me, as if I cared who it was. Even at this point there was no apology.
By then we had decided that we would not be staying for the second night and would be leaving at first light. The room had not been vacuumed prior to our arrival and the bathroom had a strange smell after the perfumed cleaner smell had worn off. We slept in our day clothes because the room was cold and there was at least one hair in the bed. To cap it all the complementary bottle of win did not materialise either.
If you are considering a night or two at The Smugglers Inn in Seaton with or without a Wowcher Voucher make sure you ask when the entertainment nights are and in any event set your expectations very low. I know they have only been running the place for 7 months but that should be long enough for them to know that paying guests come to them to treat themselves and like to be made to feel a bit special and that their custom matters. They also have the right to feel safe and secure.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Smugglers and had a good time. Thursday nights open mic was a real laugh with some great singers having a go. Didn't have a go myself, much to everybodys good fortune.
Breakfast was very good, we were the only couple staying for the 2 nights and were spoiled for choice with what was on offer for only £5.00 per person.
The only thing that let the place down was a rather damp smell in the ensuit shower room.
Will stay again next time we need a short break away.

We have visited the Smugglers Inn quite a few times since being taken over by new management and find the staff to be warm and friendly. The food on offer is good value pub grub and plenty of it! I wish the new management all the best in these tough times for small businesses.

Well today we happened on the Smugglers Inn..... in Seaton, East of looe...I remember stopping for a pit stop beer some years ago...so to say i have no recollection of the pub is fair...but anyway
to cut to the chase....the food and the menu was very much what I expected...your traditional Sunday offerings ...The Starters very reasonably priced @ £3.25 todays offerings were Broccoli and Stilton Soup, Farm House Pate and Melba Toast, and a Traditional Prawn Cocktail...which in all honesty I fancied but didnt bother with ...because no one else wanted a starter so i just did the SHEEP thing and opted also for the Carvery....Which was a Top side of Beef and Pork Joint ok not a massive selection of meats...But in term of the Middle of the road sit down lunch...what more can i really expect for £7.50? so of course i had both meats, there was quite a selection of veg that was in a long hostess heated self server station, I had 3 yorkies, a scoop of carrots which were of the frozen variety, and some sprouts also which were frozen, and a heap of ruff cutt savoy cabbage and roast potatoes...the potatoes had clearly been deep fried prior to the roast, because the overall appearance was dark but on the whole.. quite edible....but to get back to the point when I sat down and viewed the plate after bathing it all in gravy which was nice ...it turned out to be quite a fair sized portion, Im a Sous Chef in a Taste of the west Gold award winning restaurant...so im always fussy...on first poke the beef looked pretty over cooked....and the pork looked unloved....but much to my surprise ate really well the beef was not pink at all but melted in the mouth? not sure how the Scottish Chef pulled that off must have been cooking it since yesterday :) and the pork which i would never normally eat out was also well cooked and nicely moist...I enjoyed it?! The deserts offered were Profiteroles, Trifle and......duh i forgot ....anyways we skipped desert because we all ate to much carvery :) ...... so to summarize .....Service was nice and straight forward...Drinks were fine but a little limited on the beers lots of reversed taps......and the meal was nice and it did indeed fill me up....this isnt fine dining nor is it anywhere near a gastro-pub status, it offers straight forward pub dining. The Chef is warm friendly and inviting, and the staff all nice, light hearted and helpful......If i have one final thought its this, declutter the restaurant, group the furniture and allow the pub / restaurant to be just that, with a little coordination, the space could be so much more improved. but on the whole...This was fair priced food which added to a nice local feel dining experience. Cheers Guys! we will stop by again...an enjoyable lunch was had.
