My husband and I have just come back from 2 days at The Gables and cannot wait to say how welcoming, helpful and friendly the owners of this guest house are. It is obvious that they enjoy their job and do everything to make their guests enjoy their stay in Cornwall. The bedroom and bathroom were absolutely spotless; the shower worked very well, the bed was comfortable, the lighting was good and the central heating was most efficient. The room was small but extremely well arranged so that there was plenty of storage room. The coffee/ tea facilities were excellent too. But what makes this place so special is, without any doubt, the personality of the couple who run this guest house: they make you feel welcome the second you arrive and are a mine of information for the rest of your stay. So wonderful to meet such genuine helpful, hardworking people displaying such enthusiasm in their work. Thank you.

We have just left the gables after a two night stay, Barbara and Michael are lovely hosts, always smiling and chatting to guests. Our bedroom was spotless and the bed was very comfy! Breakfast was fab. Make sure you try a home made Cornish pasty for your journey home, Barbara makes them fresh for you and they taste lovely! Rach & Mandy :)

We stayed at the Gables for 2 nights to celebrate a special birthday. The couple who run the hotel are adorable; nothing is too much trouble; their care and attention to our every need is a rare find in the hospitality industry, The room was beautiful, clean, and well appointed for a short break. Don't buy a Cornish pasty from anywhere else - Barbara's own are worth every penny! Our first but not our last visit to Cornwall - well worth the 7 hour drive, and we won't stay anywhere else! Lovely personal touches like being shown to your room, fresh water daily and shoe cleaning kit, made all the difference. A true gem!

Room Tip: The Penwarne room has a four poster bed for a special occasion.

Had a wonderful 3 night stay here while we visited the Eden Project & circumnavigated the Cornish coast.
Great hosts, wonderful Breakfasts & very clean cosy rooms.
If you're B&B-ing you won't find better than this.
Highly commended & recommended in EVERY respect.
Try the home made "Tiddyoggies" for an absolute feast. Eat in or take away.

Room Tip: Try the 4 poster.

We stayed at The Gables mainly as it seemed a great location to the Eden Project, but also to St.Ives, Lands End, Padstow, Looe etc!

The Gables itself, is run by a lovely couple, who were very friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed.

We stayed in the Penwarne Room, which was very clean with a large ensuite bathroom. The 4 poster bed was very comfortable and the decor in the room was really nice, contemporary and clean. There is a small fridge, which we didn't use, as it seemed very noisy, but this may have settled when left on, but we turned it off again. There's also tea and coffee making facilities and water.

The breakfast was good, a choice of fruit, cereal and a cooked breakfast including massive pancakes as an option! Dinner is also an option if you want it, but we ate out each evening.

St. Austell itself, isn't much to write about, but Mevaggissey is only a short drive away and we ate there each evening.

The Gables, is expensive, but in viewing other places in the area, they all seem to be more pricey. It is however clean and comfortable and did everything we needed it to!

I stayed here on business at the start of August. I had a very important presentation to do in St Austell first thing in the morning. Because I had an early start an early breakfast was arranged for me but it was when my car would not start that the landlord and landlady really helped. Mike helped me try to start my car with jump leads and when that did not work he did not think twice about lending me his car for the best part of the day. He was again very helpful when dealing with the recovery service. My only regret was that I was booked in else where for the following night. I would definitely recommend The Gables for a homely and helpful stay in the St Austell area.
