“Surprisingly good”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

The approach to the hotel is past a giant McDonalds and past an industrial estate but having arrived at the place this inauspicious start was soon forgotten. The food in the restaurant was excellent and at £20 for three courses was excellent value. A very good bottle of wine at a reasonable price and a freshly cooked breakfast added to the enjoyment.
The room was spacious and well appointed and the staff were efficient and friendly. The lodges look very good as well.
In all a very good place to visit and I hope to return very soon.

just back from a 1 night stay at The Cornwall on their Winter warmer package, which consisted of Dinner, Bed, Breakfast and a cream tea. We also linked this with a Travelzoo spa deal.

The rooms were lovely, spacious and very clean, with good toiletries . Food was also excellent, freshly cooked and plentiful. Our spa treatments were nice , very pricey but on a par with other ones we have visited. All staff were extremely friendly and would recommend this hotel without reservation.

Booked a lodge just before Christmas for a family holiday with my grandchildren. It surpassed my expectations, beautifully furnished, clean and well stocked with beauty products. The pool was child friendly which was a refreshing change as expected it to be a bit stuffy. We were expecting to see lots of bats as they were mentioned heavily in their brochure, but we were disappointed not to see any (bat hotel was a wooden box with no viewing windows) and woodland walks were to overgrown to use. not to worried as the beach was just ten minutes away.

I would like to thank the staff of the hotel and spa for a fabulous time. The rooms were spotlessly clean and beds were comfortable. The spa facilities were the best I have experienced and the girls who gave me the treatments were polite and professional. Would certainly return and recommend to everybody. Thank you once again...back home feeling refreshed.

Room Tip: deluxe lodge room had a balcony with superb views

We booked a lodge at the last minute; the lodge we got had one of the best views. The fridge was stocked with butter and jam and a fresh loaf, just what we needed after our journey down to Cornwall. The milk and apple juice was also welcomed. The lodge is in a good location just a few minutes walk from St Austell. We ate in the bar on our first night, we did find this a little over priced. We both had one spa treatment which we enjoyed; you do need to book early.

Room Tip: Ample pillows were provided but they were very thin.

Stayed in one of the lodges mid December with a group of girlfriends. We managed to get a special 2 night "girls weekend" break which we had at a very good price. Check in fine with no problems - helpful staff. Parking pretty awful at reception which I think they need to address. Got directions to drive to our lodge. You cant park outside but have to walk a minute a two. Bit annoying if you have lots of luggage to bring in (ours was mainly booze to be fair!). Lodges been built to high standard with open plan sitting room/kitchen/dining upstairs with balcony and downstairs 2 x bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Nice smellies in bathrooms and a welcome pack in kitchen which was excellent. As we had the "girlie weekend" special we had included pizza and popcorn on the first night. Pretty good and saved us cooking!

The next day was our Spa Day - we had managed to get some vouchers through Groupon - £47.00 for the day including a massage/facial etc and a glass of Prosecco. Although as residents we did have free access to the Spa - just no treatments. Receptionist not very attentive on arrival and no smiles. We were not offered robes/slippers but had to ask for them. It was all very clean and felt quite relaxing. My treatment was excellent as were all the others. We had lunch in their "small" lunching area and that went down well.

I was surprised that there were no woodland walks or estate walks but we did walk up to the main house (where reception is and the restaurants). Very helpful staff on. We arrived mid morning and wanted coffee. They were clearing up after a big party the evening before but coffee was no trouble at all. The brasserie looked nice and the restaurant too - although we ate out so didnt sample the menus.

All in all a pretty good break. Not much to fault and very relaxing. No doubt we will return.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage ask for a lodge near one of the car parks!

We recently stayed at "The Cornwall" in a junior suite which we found bright and spacious with a large comfy bed (one annoying thing though, the TV kept losing signal). Our bathroom was also large with a rolltop bath, just the thing for relaxing in after a very cold day! The staff were helpful and were happy to recommend other places to eat locally as both resturants in the hotel were booked on our arrival. We ate at The Kingswood Restaurant, just a few yard along the road, where we had a fabulous meal at a reasonable price.

The hotel's food from the formal Arboretum restaurant in the evening to the self service breakfast was delicious. (We did notice at breakfast however, that on a busier weekend there were problems keeping up with demand for food, if you arrived after 9.15am - lots of empty serving dishes!).

Now, the spa - having returned from a very cold day exploring we were looking forward to relaxing in the warmth of a hot spa, but the steam room was out of order, the pool was luke warm and the jacuzzi cold!

Apart from that, this hotel is well worth a stay for touring this part of Cornwall.
