We recently stayed at the above hotel, we had a great time, lovely location, great service from staff, great facilities.

The doorman in top hat and tails welcome you and there is a helipad at the back. They provide complimentary golf sets if you want to borrow them (we played pitch & put) we had chocs & fruit in our room. complimentary nail file, mouth wash, ear buds and usual shampoo, shower gel, cream & shower cap. We had a turn down service in the evening,

We stayed 2 nights in a deluxe room with sea view.

My only comments would be that the hotel is designed for an older crowd, average age when we stayed was probably 65 and the decor is very twee so everything is quite formal with staff wearing ties in the day and bow ties at night. The locals call it the best hotel in the area and the rich & famous have been there with photo evidence on the walls to the spa.

The hotel is right on the sea, It was lovely & quiet but I would expect that is a lot to do with the average age of the guests.

If you are looking for a modern lively hotel this is not for you but if you are after a quiet break with amazing scenery then this is for you.

My husband and I stayed at the Carlyon Bay Hotel on 3rd March 2012.

During our stay we experienced problems there that we felt unacceptable. However, after writing to Head Office i was offered an apology and a complementary stay at any of the Brend Hotels including dinner bed and breakfast. I felt that my complaint was taken seriously and was dealt with accordingly. Because the matter is solved i did not think it was fair to write what happened however, it has not stopped me from staying at another Hotel with this company.

Hotel has undergone refurbishment which has brought it up to a very good standard. Location is great with nearby beach (though the old works buildings let it down); golf course next door for those wanting it; spa area very nice too; staff helpful. However it still feels like a slightly old fashioned British seaside resort hotel - the draped curtains and green everywhere in the lounge cement that impression. Main gripes were view from the room - whilst well appointed, I paid £100 for inland view but got a massive pine tree which blocked out light and view of the utility area - would have expected better for this sort of money. Breakfast was good but was put off from trying dinner by a most unpleasant Chicken Caesar salad - mass of garlic which overpowered everything else, mass of raw mushrooms (an original addition!) to bulk it up and far too much over-ripe lettuce. Just think it needs to sharpen up a few areas before it really merits the 4 star status.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The recent refurbishment has been very successful and its great to hear you felt its been finished to a very good standard.
With regards to our room selections at the hotel we have several room categories available should you wish to visit us again, I would definitely recommend a sea facing room – the views are spectacular!
We have taken your comments on board and we would be grateful for the opportunity to welcome you back to The Carlyon Bay in the future.

We have stayed at the Carlyon Bay twice now, each time in low season and had a great time on each occasion.

The hotel has a great location overlooking Carlyon Bay and is within walking distance of Charlestown to the west.
The rooms are currently being redecorated and on our last visit we got a new room which was very nice, if not particularly spacious. We had no problems with noise or disturbance.

Each time we visited we took the dinner bed and breakfast option. Dinner is usually taken in the main restaurant which has a dress code (jacket and tie preferred for men, no denim). There is an alternative restaurant for casual dining (Taste), but this is closed in low season, which may explain why they weren't too bothered with me in my black jeans and shirt. The food is excellent, although choice is a little limited if you are on the fussy side. The wine list is also extensive. In our experience the staff are very friendly.

After dinner drinks are taken in the bar, often with live music.

The swimming pool and spa area are nice and clean, although there is a suspicious lack of visible price lists for treatments (at least when we went).

Overall it is a lovely hotel. It would not suit a lively younger crowd, but for a romantic break (or golf, if that is your thing) with excellent food it is perfect.

Recently stayed at this hotel with a group of 14 golfers (husbands and wives) and had a great time. The organiser booked directly with the hotel and got a very good deal for two nights dinner, bed and breakfast and two rounds of golf. The staff, particularly in the restaurant, were all very helpful, friendly and good at their job. Whoever does the training is to be congratulated. The menu offered a good choice of options and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. The whole hotel is decorated to a high standard and although our room was small it was very well appointed with good quality fittings. The sea facing rooms looked much bigger and it might be worth considering paying the extra. Golf course is a good test of golf, particularly when the wind is blowing! Sunday was rather slow, with a five hour round, but despite this we all enjoyed our away weekend. There is a cliff top walk for non golfers but the beach does not have a lot to recommend it so would not want to take my grandchildren there.

Room Tip: Think about paying extra for sea view

We recently stayed here and thought the staff were very attentive and helpful. The rooms with a sea view are great when looking out in the morning while enjoying that first cuppa! The golf course is excellent and there are many places to visit in the area. Will definitely be visiting again.
