“Average and a fairly expensive for what it is”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

We got a takeaway curry from The Gurkha on our first night staying in the area. A takeaway for two (Mushroom Rice, King Prawn Bhuna, Kathmandu Kukhura (chicken dish), two naan breads and some onion bhajis) came to over £30 which is somewhat above what I would consider average. I do not have a problem with above average prices if the food matches it but neither of us felt it did. It wasn't bad, it was just average; no real flavour in the curries, keema naan was short of meat...just an average meal....

“Beautiful”
Reviewed 14 May 2014 via mobile

Stumbled across this place whilst looking around St Austell.Decided to take a menue and order a curry. All I can say is it was gorgeous. I ordered a Balti and it was like no other balti I have ever had.A million flavours going on at once. SO so nice. They even gave us a couple of bottles of Bud as a complement. Will be booking a table very soon!

“Excellent service of a superb meal”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Having never used this restaurant before and loving Nepalese food I looked forward to eating in this restaurant, and I was not disappointed. Whilst the surrounding area outside the premised could be described as "Modern Tacky" this was certainly not the case inside. The clean, tidy tables were well spaced and the ambiance was just right. The very pleasant waitress was very knowledgeable of all items on the menu and was able to go into the finest detail of the ingredients in each dish. A slight hiccup with one item was promptly dealt with, with profuse apologies and a replacement was offered at no charge as compensation. The menu was inspirational, with real Nepalese dishes, not just Indian food with Nepalese names as produced by some restaurants locally. I cannot praise the staff here highly enough, they were all welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable, such a refreshing change nowadays. Well done, I will return!

“Shabby venue with great food”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

The outside of this restaurant is uninspiring to say the least but it’s in the middle of town and convenient. Stairs led up to the first floor restaurant which turned out to be an overly large, sparsely furnished and rather shabby interior. The staff were pleasant enough and showed us to a ridiculously small table considering the size of the room. The menu listed all the usual culprits but a few Nepalese dishes as well that we thought we’d try. This was where they shined. The chef had been cooking up this style of food for the last 15 years and it showed. Clever use of spices and perfectly balanced made a welcome change from the usual unidentifiable and ‘same-ish’ sauces that we usually experience in the lower end of Indian Restaurants. In short, don’t go to this place for a romantic night out but if you’re only interested in tasty food it’s well worth a try.

Dear customer,

Thank you for you feedback which is always much appreciated and allows us to improve our service.

We continuously work on improvements which also includes our decor. The restaurant is not small and not always completely full, but we regularly host large parties and host different events which completely exhaust our capacity.

We strive to make any occasion a special one, whether it is a birthday party, charity night or a romantic dinner for two.

Our team is very happy you enjoyed the food and hope to see you again in the near future.

Kindest regards,

Nepalese Gurkha
