The Lost Gardens of Heligan are well worth visiting, lots to see and very interesting. We spent all day there and as senior citizens it was only £10 each to get in.

A family ticket is around £30 but as my children had blue peter badges they got in for free (we didn't see any notices saying they were a free entry place with a blue peter badge) we had a great day lots of things for the children to do whilst walking the hilly gardens from following a treasure trail, to traditional garden games like hoopla, to den building- with all materials provided. The cafe was very good & had excellent staff. Although for us the best part was the farm shop on the car park where we spent a small fortune on fantastic produce.

Had read a book some years ago detailing the restoration of the gardens and given we were going to be in the vicinity, it was a must see.

Can't believe the size of the restoration project as it covers many acres and the gardens are in immaculate condition. Also includes the original buildings, hothouses etc.

The gardens encompasses a huge variety of plants, with mature trees, water areas, bridges and open paddock areas if you get of the well trodden paths a little.

My advice would be to get there early as would imagine it is always busy, especially in summer. Best to wander through with as few people as possible as many of the garden rooms and nooks would lose some of the impact if crowded. Great BBQ lunch and reasonably priced, cooked in the garden near the emus and swing.

Luckily, a tourist leaflet at our Newquay holiday base told us about this unusual place and we spent most of a day there. The garden is as good as everyone says, with surprises tucked away here and there. Plenty of walking to do, to see all the parts, so you need to be fit for it, though much is wheelchair accessible. We recommend the wildlife garden , kitchen gardens and the more energetic hidden valley with its ponds. The restaurant was very welcoming and good for refilling hungry stomachs. The shop was fine and we took some plants home - still enjoying the visit!

Visited the lost gardens, I thought £12.00 in was a little steep, the pigs and animals were my favourite, the cafe was disappointing , busy noisy and like a large dinning room, there were far to few sales assistants and mega ques everywhere , puts you off an ok trip but not again to expensive.
