“Brilliant Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 19 December 2011

Yesterday,18 December 2011,my wife and I, her sister and a friend went for Sunday lunch at this hotel. The meal was superb, a good selection finely cooked vegetables and a choice of 3 roasts. The carvery was presided over by a very personable young chef Michael Liddicoat who spent some time with us describing the hotels practice of slow roasting meat so that it is cooked through, not "rare" which was welcomed by us.
.
the hotel provides a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who wants to feel special, we shall certainly be returning.

Stayed Friday to Sunday at the Port Avellen Hotel. Great views from the room over St Austell Bay, great breakfast and room. Very clean and staff really helpful. Ate in the hotel restaurant and food really good (even locals choose to eat here). Great advice on local places to visit. Plenty of room in the car park. No negative things to report, would not change a single thing.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 6 excellent views across the bay.

We stayed one night and wished we could stay longer. It is a beautiful antique hotel. Our room, #6, looked out on the Bay and it could not have been better! It was a very romantic place to stay. Service was excellent and the food and wine very special. Everyone was friendly, especially Jesper, who helped us immensely with suggestions as to what to see on the rest of our travel. There are all kinds of unique nook and crannies in the hotel - an atrium bar, conservatory and the dining room - all with amazing views of the coastline and bay - that are common rooms yet a bit private, where you can go to have some time alone or share with other guests. It was an amazing stay, and we look forward to another visit when we can linger longer!

Room Tip: Room # 6 looks out on the water. It has a large bay window with seating so that you can commune wit...

My wife and I have just returned from our Sunday lunch at The Porth Avallon Hotel. Firstly we were welcomed at reception by a very pleasent young lady named Channel who directed us to the bar where we were welcomed by the staff and made to feel very special. we had a pre lunch drink and the view was beautiful even though to day it was a little overcast as a backdrop it was perfect. We then were ushersed into the Charlestown suite to partake of a most delicious Carvery lunch. The food was well presented and very tasty. I understand that today is the start of a regular Sunday lunch and based on what we ate today think it will be a great success. The Hotel its self is Comfortable and bright and we will definately be going again. Paul and Dee St Austell

We stayed only one night at Porth Avallen Hotel in a large room overlooking the coast. We had the choice of a bar meal or the dining room. We sat in the bar at a window seat with glorious views of the bay. Our attention was drawn to the menu where a selection of local seafood was on offer. The meal was delicious, one of the best meals we had while in the UK, and we left wishing that we could stay another evening to again sample some other seafood dishes offered on the menu.

Room Tip: Room over looking the Bay

Agree essentially with review "Shame about the butter packs". However we live in the world of health and safety!

We had a lovely time, all the staff were very helpfull and attentive, the food is wonderfull, we had dinner 2 nights from 3 and could not fault any part of the courses. Breakfast was also excellent, perhaps a fish could be added.

We worried about the noise from the water tank in the rear rooms and although we where not in the rooms, was assured that this has been rectified.

Our room was spotless, beautifully cleaned and serviced each day, with lots of hot water for the huge bath, heaven after after a wet day at Heligan!

Yes the piped music could do with an update but this is not just a hotel with a wonderful view; its a wonderful hotel with a lovely view.

We did not stay at this hotel but did eat in the restaurant due to problems at our hotel (see Best Western review)

The service provided by all was first class - from the receptionist who printed off a menu for us (prior to our booking a table), the waitress and the chefs. The food itself was superb with a tremendous choice, professionally presented and a window table overlooking the bay. Doesn't get much better
