My partner and I have just returned from a short break to St Austell, where we stayed at this wonderful B&B.

We had a very warm welcome from the owners Greg and Lynda.

On arrival, Greg showed us around the fantastic house they have, showing us our lovely double bedroom (larger than many hotels we have stayed in and including tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits) and also showing us the guest bar, lounge and outside areas. The bar, lounge and outside areas are a great space for use by the guests and we enjoyed a drink on the deck on one particularly warm evening. Greg has a barbecue he is happy to fire up for you should you wish. There is an honesty bar should you decide to use it, where Greg just asks that you let him know what you have had so he can make a small charge. There is also a sauna for guests use, but we did not get a chance to use it. Maybe next time.

Greg brought us a cup of tea and a toasted teacake to our room, along with a map he had very helpfully prepared showing the local area and points of interest, restaurants, shops, etc.

We found ourselves visiting places we had not even heard of before (Fowey and Charlestown) on Greg's recommendations and they were all worth the visit. Greg's knowledge of the area was very helpful. Let him know where you are going each day and I am sure he will offer you the best advice on travel, parking, what to see, etc.

The bedroom was very well appointed and had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. There was a lovely, modern en-suite and the whole accommodation was spotlessly clean.

Breakfast was lovely, with cereal, full English, toast, yoghurts, tea & coffee and juice. It filled us up until lunch-time.

We would definitely recommend this B&B for its warm welcome and excellent accommodation and will definitely be back when we next return to Cornwall.

Accommodation is about ten minutes walk or a two minute car drive to the centre and was a great central base for all we wanted to see in this area of Cornwall.

Thanks again Greg & Lynda (and two beautiful cats)

We stayed here on the last night of our trip to Cornwall and were pleased to be staying somewhere with another excellent and friendly host. Greg made us feel comfortable from the start as he gave us a tour of the house, which is lovely, and included a variety of communal areas for guests. He was obviously very knowledgable of the local area and even provided us with his own map of local recommended restaurants. We ended up going to a Gurkha Indian restaurant which was a short walk into the town centre and had a great meal. The room was very clean and comfortable and the following morning we were given another great breakfast. Greg had even cooked some home made croissants which we couldn't eat at the time but took with us and were scrumptious. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting St Austell.

Firstly, best and warm wishes to Greg who made our short stay so much more enjoyable as a result of his excellent hosting.

Travel- We went as a couple for a weekend break and took the train up from London (about 4.5 hrs - make sure you reserve a seat!). Greg happily picked us up from the train station (which is only a 15 minute walk to Topos through the town centre). Greg was friendly and accommodating from start to finish, always asking about our welfare and ensuring our comfort.

House- The house is huge and allows you to get great views of St. Austell and it's famous viaduct. Its also quite modern and well presented and Greg was always on hand to ensure everything was tidy and clean. Yes, there are 2 cats but they were not a bother. We missed out on trying out the sauna as we kept ourselves so busy.

St. Austell Town - is quite a quaint village and Topos is very close to the centre - we always walked to and from town. It is quite hilly so we reckon that we evened out on all the lovely food we ate whilst there.

Food- Breakfast made by Greg was nice and kept us feeling really full up until lunch time! Greg was our only reference when it came to food out of the house and he didn't let us down: we ate at the Gurkha's restaurant on our first night there and although it took some time to come, it tasted great! We had lunch at the Eden project - one of the highlights of being there! Later, we went to Charlestown and had tea at Charley's - fantastic and dinner of seafood pancake at the Pier House (we'd had so much that day we had to leave a lot of this which was such a shame!). When we were leaving, I had the best Cornish Pasty I've ever tasted at a bakery next to the Boots Optician in town (I forget the name but it has a yellow sign).

Activities/ Attractions- Visited the Eden project, Charlestown (nice clean pebble beach and Heritage Museum) and the Lost Gardens of Heligan which were all about 15-20 minutes drive from Topos or on the bus from town which were not too bad (we would advise that you obtain a timetable for the buses you need (526 takes you to Eden from St Austell, 524/5 take you to Charlestown and there is a special service to Heligan)). We also caught a movie at the White River Cinema - the screen was a bit small for the movie we saw (Wrath of the Titans) and had to pay for 3D glasses but still enjoyable and cheaper than London!

People - friendly and approachable and gentle demeanour.

Topos will definitely be at the top of my list if I come back to St. Austell

Room Tip: Let Greg and Lynda know your needs and if they can accommodate you, they will!

We always promised ourselves to visit the Cornwall where we spent some wonderful times and to see the Eden Project. We were recommended to the Topos via friends and we were not disappointed!! We were made to feel at home immediately, it seemed Greg was originately from our part of the country. Our room was comfortable with very tasteful decor and all the ammenities. We awoke on the first day to a wonderful breakfast having, on the previous day visited the Gardens of Heligan. We then managed to visit the Eden Project which were both within easy distance. Although we had a long way to return home we felt our few days were well worth the visit and next time we shall be spending much longer in and around St. Austell and shall be booked those days with Greg and Lynda at the Topos. Thanks again for the memories of the friendliness we always received from the Cornish people, made again evident from our stay at the Topos.

When we contacted Topos to make a booking, Greg sent us really good directions to follow and we found it without a problem. (It is hiden away a bit). Once we arrived Greg and his wife showed us around the rather unconventional layout (Our bedroom was down a spiral staircase) and I did wonder what was to come, but my goodness, what a lovely place to spend a few days. The daily travel tips Greg gave us also helped us find the Eden Project and The lost Gardens of Heligan without any hassle.
The bed was really comfortable, with the best quality bedsheets, and the breakfast is really well presented. Well done Greg, nothing was too much trouble. If we were in that area of the country again I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Greg has 1 Kingsize bedroom but it's not ensuite, however, your exclusive bathroom is just acros...

Fantastic place with amazing guest spaces, the bar and living room are a real feature. It is in a good location for both town and the Eden project and Greg's local knowledge and hospitality are a real bonus too. We had a fab time and if we found ourselves in st austell we would definitely stay again. Very much recommended. Jess and Chris

The perfect place to stay for a visit to The Eden Project or The Lost Gardens Of Heligan. The welcome is great, the size of the place is very spacious with great decor and facilities and you will leave feeling rested, relaxed and satisfied that you have had great quality for money. The breakfast was faultless and the owners were always available for advice and guidance on the local area and beyond. I cannot rate this place highly enough.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

We are so pleased that you had a nice stay and apologise that we were in a bit of dissaray from redecorating but we think we have broken the back of it now and will be back to normal very soon, thank goodness! Hope you have a great time when you come back in your Camper van as it will enable you to see much more of Cornwall. Kind regards Lynda & Greg
