Supposed to be a romantic weekend break to celebrate our engagement but my fiancée ended up being ill. Phoned before I booked and was told they could cater for a vegan. Richard was amazing in the restaurant and came up with an option, chef supplied cheesy bread though but we assumed it was a mistake seen as the rest of the food and service was amazing. Then it went down hill, noisy room from bar and nearby bar and guests above, they did offer ear plugs for weekends! Breakfast was just beans and mushroom nothing had been arranged despite being told they could cater for vegans and noting it on the booking request, then we found butter on the bread as it tasted odd but it was too late he had already eaten some so ended up going to the chemist for some stomach settlers and anti-histamines. The manager was not in until 2pm, young man on reception claimed there was no record but I showed my original emails and when he opened the book again it did say vegan but then he claimed that was for the evening meal only, was told to come back at 5pm or catch the manager before breakfast, then Natalie came over saying she had spoken to the manager on the phone and passed on an apology and offered us a free drink, and assurances that tomorrow's breakfast would be all sorted. Sadly it was not and we were confronted with 'well what can you eat', then reading out everything including sausage and bacon so had to stop her and explain, no meat, no dairy and we had been told breakfast had been sorted for him. Chef came up to apologise which was nice and made some spinach but waitress was not happy when I asked for more tea, I was told we had some and I explained I had finished that pot but had ordered two pots but got one, then we got two more which was a waste as only wanted one, could not wait to leave in the end. No manager around again, paid our bill and left.
