“Amazing food and service”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

The food here was great. My husband is gluten free and the staff were so helpful and accommodating to his requirements. They basically made the curry he wanted with gluten free flour which was great and shows how fresh the food is. The meal wasn't expensive either and the menu had a great choice. The staff were also so lovely and kind it really made our evening enjoyable.

“Good but overpriced”
Reviewed 28 August 2013 via mobile

Our visit to the restaurant got off to a good start - the waiter who was operating the whole front of house - was friendly. They looked to try and accommodate our children, the food was tasty however it was not brilliant. My personal feeling is that the restaurant hasn't yet found its niche and is trying too hard to be all things to everyone. The first indication of this was the menu which covers Indian, Chinese/Thai, seafood and pub food with a range of styles and options within there. This is simply too much for the small kitchen to properly handle and the preparation of the sauces was a little rushed it seemed - (the Provençal sauce needed to simmer for a lot longer than it had, for example). This said the food was tasty, but having been to the st Austell previously it is just not in the same league.

The main grumble was the prices, given the quality. Overall the meal was more expensive than at the st Austell though it was not a good quality. The best example of this was the chocolate fudge cake dessert . We were charged £18 for 3 slices of standard off the shelf fudge cake with a small scoop of what looked like a Tesco value vanilla ice cream. This was really quite unacceptable and left a bad feeling in our mouths after a fairly good meal.

I would not advise people to stay clear but I would suggest that you keep an eye on the quality/price - you can get better value elsewhere.

“Birthday meal at Simply Jude's (was The School House)”
Reviewed 14 August 2013

Judy made my birthday extra special, I took the family and every one enjoyed it so much.
My daughter was very impressed as she is a qualified chef. It was nice to see there were other people that had discovered how lovely it is in this restaurant.

Husband and wife team ensure this place is always consistent.
Downside is menu rarely changes but who cares? Not fine dining - just good honest food here. The lamb is excellent!!

“Thankyou David and Celia”
Reviewed 17 August 2012

Just heard that our favourite restaurant has closed. Every visit to your restaurant was without complaint - of any sort, apart from needing a heater in the loo in the winter. Faultless cooking always and David - your hosting was just the best. We have an idea where your house is in France and when Vince is golfing next month he will be knocking on your door. We will miss The Schoolhouse greatly, it was always our benchmark when we compared the competition. Enjoy your retirement, you certainly deserve a rest. Where are we going to find Twice Baked Cheese Souffles as heavenly as yours?
