I recently spent some time in Veryan and must say it is a wonderful place to visit' the local pub the new inn is exactly that' a local pub, I found the staff and customers to be very friendly and very helpful, these are real Cornish people, it is spotlessly clean, and I found the menu to be very good with plenty of choice with locally caught fish and locally sourced meet and veg.
While I was there' there were manny people eating most nights and all seemed very happy with the fare, this is not a hungry horse sort of pub, it has good old fashioned values and gives good old fashioned service, if you want a real Cornish pub then this is the place for you,

I can only comment on there food not accommodation. In my opinion think 80's yuppies guffawing incessantly if this is the ambiance you like you will be at home here. As for the food it is a fairly simple menu ham, egg and chips almost £11 extortionate as I would hazard a guess that the eggs were not even local! I had the mackerel well it was more like a sardine, my dad throws this size back when out fishing.
In conclusion if you want fairly simple food but want to pay way over the odds for only just adequate food then feel free to visit.

Stayed here for three nights over a weekend, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Friendly welcome from Suzanne and Colin when we arrived, and we had a comfortable, spacious and exceptionally clean twin room with ensuite. It's a proper pub - old fireplaces, lots of horse brasses & nick-nacks, great food and excellent local beers - Tribute & Proper Job hit the spot! Veryan is a lovely, quiet village and the New Inn is a great place to get away from it all. Carne and Pendower beaches about two miles away are well worth a visit. Sunday night is quiz night and a lot of fun. We hope to return!

Stayed here two nights on a tour of Cornwall and was best pleased. Colin and Suzanne Phillips are the hosts. He is charming and avuncular behind the bar, attentive to one's needs and quick to try out his party trick, gettting you to sample the 125% proof local rum! The pub grub is several notches above the usual and there are 'specials' every night. Chicken liver pate and whitebait are highly recommended as starters, along with whatever is soup of the day - white onion and thyme when we were there. They don't mind if you ask for toast instead of chunks of bread, or salad instead of chips. Suzanne cooks a mean Cornish breakfast - meltingly delicious bacon from a supplier in Truro, and superb sausage - but you can have just about anything you want. The ensuite rooms are bright, clean, tastefully decorated and there are lovely soft towels, lots of hot water, tissues, face flannels, a hot water bottle and hot chocolate on the tea tray. Fresh milk in a jug appears by magic. The position is good for touring and the Eden Project. PO and shop in the village.

Room Tip: They only have three rooms so you will need to book early

I stayed here for a couple of nights while attending a wedding event in the village.

Veryan as a location is one of the nicest villages in Cornwall. Unlike other parts of Cornwall we have heard about we found everyone to be lovely; very open and friendly, very welcoming. ITs a small village so dont expect supermarkets and lots of posh coffee chains. There is a local shop for day to day items. Veryan is a short stroll from one of the finest beaches in the UK.

The New in is new only in the sense of cornish new! The current owners - Suzanne and Colin - have only been there for a sort while, so dont pay any attention to the poor reviews elsewhere here on TA. That was the previous management as I understand it. They have clearly worked hard to build up this Inn.

It's 17th Century, not large, and has just two guest rooms. It's essentially two terraced houses knocked together, so you get a fire at each end of the lounge. It doesnt hold more than 20 or so diners, or up to 40ish including standing drinkers - so it's cosy. They serve local ales and cornish ciders, as well as a couple of lagers and Guinness. I liked the Dartmoor ale, nice and hoppy, a full flavour dark amber bitter. My wife had a few G&Ts during our stay before settling into the house red wine. When you ask for a house red you are offered a number of choices, including a really nice Merlot and excellent Rioja. There is real coffee from bean to cup. Normal pub prices.

The two guest rooms are simplly furnished and decoratedin neutral colours. Room 1 is a 4' 6" double bedded room. If you want a king size it's not for you. Its a modest size room, fine for a single occupancy, and OK for a couple if you are out and about a lot. Shower, not bath. Room 2 is a significantly bigger room, full en suite, twin beds, comfy leather sofa. Both rooms have kettle and sachet service, TV, hairdrier, tongs, and even a hot water bottle! The attention to detail is second only to the attention to cleanliness. Everywhere at the New Inn was spotless.

Meals were absolutely flawless. Full english breakfast impressed us with the quality of each individual component, as well as the overall balance of flavours on the plate. Bacon was free of grease or emulsifiers - this is locally produced dry cure bacon. Local sausages were meaty and had an excellent flavour, intense tomatoes and flavoursome mushrooms. Lashings of real butter for the toast and ample Douw Egberts cafetieres. Scrummy. We were so impressed we had all our meals there, and the food was fantastic. Real quality and attention to detail, piping hot, full of flavour, and served by cheerful, friendly and professional staff. I happened to ask for brown sauce for my bangers, and next minute Suzanne was seen pootling off to the nearby shop to get a fresh bottle. Impressive service.

We will be going again definitely. If you are reading this Sue and Colin, thanks for all your efforts. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
