Fantastic location. Disappointed to find that our clothes became covered in dog hairs. We stayed in a spacious garden view room with a little extra cabin room attached. We were so glad that we hadn't taken our grand son with us as he reacts to dog hair!! We feel that we should have been warned! However the hot water bottles were a nice touch.

Breakfast and dinner were generally tepid by the time they were served - which is not what you expect when dinner is priced at £50 a head. Afternoon tea was fantastic - a welcome feast when one returned after a busy day out.

It was good to see that guests children did not use I pads/I phones etc. in public areas - neither did their parents use mobile phones - lovely to see families playing chess scrabble etc.

We went with my in laws to celebrate our 25th wedding and the one word to describe the Nare is outstanding. Go, enjoy and feel refreshed. The food was to die for, the service was the best I have had in years and the atmosphere in the hotel amazing.

How to describe The Nare???

We are well travelled, having stayed in some of the most luxurious hotels in London, Paris, Monte Carlo (with private beach) … I could go on. We’ve had our fair share of luxury holiday breaks. But this is honestly the sorriest I have EVER been to say, “I'm checking out”.

Stayed in the Kiberick Suite (room 20). Panoramic 1st floor views (from 2 balconies) over the beach, bay & gardens, every possible room amenity including a filled decanter of sherry, fresh flowers and fruit.

Champagne on arrival or as your aperitif for your 1st evening’s dinner. So comfortable – too much so, actually, as we slept in one morning and had to use the Quarterdeck’s “late riser” breakfast! Which, given that it’s served until noon, is actually not bad at all. They phoned us at 10.00am (last orders), “will you be joining us for breakfast in the dining room?” Nice of them to hold our table, even nicer of them to make the offer.

That's what gets to you about this place (apart from the stunning scenery) - the service. As for the hotel grounds and the beach, they're magnetic.

So pleasant to see people in leisurewear turned away from the main dining room in the evening. The dining room is jacket and tie for men, and strictly no trainers. It’s emphatically NOT (as has been suggested by a previous reviewer) “black tie”. Loved it, 5 courses (though we never got through all 5!), delicious from amuse bouche or canapés to pudding. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner (at the same GORGEOUS table every time).

Call me "old-fashioned" as you like, but the service in this dining room (silver service for the main course), the food, the balance, the SUPERB views – all amount to an unforgettable experience. You eat this beautifully prepared food with the wine of your choice (HUGE cellar) as you watch the sun go down and the moon rise, glistening over the bay. All you want, at the end of your meal, is to get out into it - and forego coffee. But it's a tough choice.

From indoor and outdoor swimming pools (we recognised the installer of the outdoor one!), sauna, hot tub with wide open sea views, choice of formal or informal dining, massage treatments (you get one FREE if you stay in the Kiberick suite), full-size billiards table, gym, immaculate gardens, PERFECT safe beach (when the tide’s out), the vast choice of sometimes fascinating places to visit in the surrounding area (+ inevitable bummers!), the outstanding views, the afternoon Cornish tea (which is something else - it's not just a question of tea but WHICH tea), the permanently unfinished jigsaw in the drawing room (warning – they’re cruel!).

From start to finish of your visit (when all of your cases are taken care of for you), literally all you have to do is relax and enjoy. It’s secluded (single track roads are the only way), possibly a bit dated for younger guests but we didn’t mind that at all – no disco, no wedding parties, no live “entertainment”. Choice of 3 completely unobtrusive “pop-up” tv’s in the Kiberick suite, but have you really come here for that?

Fabulous place, where all the staff seem to know your name and address you as such. You feel embarrassed that you don’t know theirs! We ended up asking. "Thank you, and may I also address you by your name?" The level of service here is outstanding.

Cannot recommend this highly enough. What a place. We met guests who were here for a fortnight’s stay – but in my humble opinion 3 nights here is worth a fortnight anywhere else. Next time (they'll reserve the same nights' accommodation for you 12 months in advance), it will have to be more than 3 nights. It may not be enough. I'm trying to figure ways of making it a life sentence.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a sea-view room, I think most have balconies

We had a fabulous full English tea for two on the Quarterdeck terrace. Service was exemplary, sandwiches and cream tea were divine, not sure how they make a humble sandwich taste so great. Plenty of cakes too, although some were a little disappointing. However, we couldn't manage the vast quantity anyway.
Add to this the beautiful surroundings and it made for a real treat. We thought the cost of £17 each was reasonable especially as we did not need a trip out to dinner that evening.
Would definitely go back again and recommend.

We spent 4 nights here in July and it was sublime. The location is stunning and really under-populated, the staff extremely polite, helpful and efficient and we did appreciate the way they learn the guests' names. The food is terrific and our only small gripes would be the somewhat eye-watering wine prices and the polyester table cloths and napkins, which really don't 'go' with the rest of the feel of this hotel. But none of that could possibly spoil the experience. We were offered an unpacking service, overnight shoe-cleaning is available (and I can't remember the last time we encountered that) and turning the bed down at night is all routine. A decanter of sherry awaited us in the room and fresh fruit and mineral water were renewed every day. In other words, this is a highly comfortable hotel with old fashioned standards but modern facilities, attractive decor and excellently trained and delightful staff. We had an afternoon's sailing on the Maggie o' Nare with Toby Ashworth, the hotel proprietor and again, it was the most memorable experience, great fun and he even produced tea and scones, fruitcake and biscuits! Staying here is a bit like staying with friends who happen to own a wonderful Cornish house, right on the edge of the sea. Very highly recommended and child friendly too.

Room Tip: We were in room 6 with our private balcony and a lovely view over the gardens and out to sea.
