I only stayed at this hotel for one night, as it was rather expensive. I was delighted to find that, on my arrival, i was advised that i had been upgraded to a suite. The relaxtion and comfort of sitting in a comfy chair in my suite, looking out over a stormy seascape and pleasant gardens made me feel very cozy, despite being alone in this huge room! The bed was massive too, and various added extras, such as complimentary sherry and high class toiliteries in the bathroom added to the feeling of being pampered and spoilt!, - don't take them home - you can buy supplies at reception ! The only category of guests that i think wouldn't love this hotel would be any younger people who don't appreciate peace and tranquility ! By the way, all the staff were outstandingly polite, courteous and helpful, and seemed pleased to help however they could.

Lovely anniversary surprise. New suite on first floor overlooking bay - beautifully furnished, clean and comfortable. Had day out on the hotel sailing yacht on our anniversary with delicious (and varied) picnic whilst anchored in a lovely creek, then sailing on to anchor near a small beach and swimming in the river. Dined 2 nights in formal dining room - food and service excellent - particularly the fish - such nice staff from the young local students working part time to several staff who had worked there 40 years or more! Owner and staff could not have done more. A really enjoyable stay.

We spent a few icey days before Christmas 2009 - grandparents, parents and 2 year old - at The Nare on the strong recommendation of friends. What a gem of a place!! We appreciated the country house hotel comfort - our rooms were very pretty, spacious with lovely views of the expansive beach right in front of the hotel. There were plenty comfy settees and armchairs to sink into in the 3 sitting rooms with log fires as we indulged in afternoon cream tea (My son-in-law thought they were the best scones he had tasted!!) chatted and read. We all highly recommend Anne the masseuse for her skill in providing a big range of treatments for each of us each day of our stay. (We took the Three Day Get Away Fro it All Break) The food is varied and absolutely delicious and fresh. Toby Ashworth, the owner, was particularly attentive and even loaned us his family three wheel buggy, suitable for pushing our 20 month year old little girl on the beach. We shall certainly be back for more periods of rest, comfort and indulgence.

The service was superb. All of the staff were willing, friendly and delighted to help. Nothing was too much trouble for anybody and everyone was prepared to go beyond the call of duty! The room was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The room was thoroughly cleaned every day and the bed was turned down and night with a hot water bottle. I had a sea view and to wake up to Carne beach every morning was heaven. The location meant that nowhere was far, e.g., Falmouth, Truro, Mevagissey, St Mawes and even The Eden Project, but the actual setting of the hotel meant that you were really in the countryside. The hotel had a pool, sauna, steam room and gym. All were clean and I used them every day. There was also a beautician available who was friendly and competent. The dining room and drawing rooms were comfortable. The log fire was extremely welcome although the hotel was perfectly warm and comfortable. I cannot wait to return.

This is based on a dinner on my wife's birthday. If you like dress codes and segregation of guests and that sort of old-fashioned stuffy stuff, this is the place for you. In no 2 restaurant (tie not required), started with good service but in a cold ante-room. First course very good. Main course poor. Were not allowed into guest lounge so had choice of having coffee at our table in empty restaurant or in the fridge (ante-room). Won't be going back.

What a fabulous place, one that certainly lives up to expectations. We found a late deal on the hotel website for an inclusive 3 night break. Our "comfortable country-view" room was beautifully furnished with an extremely comfortable bed and a superb en-suite bathroom. There was a sofa in front of the flat screen TV, always a bonus as I hate having to sit on the bed to watch TV, a writing desk, dressing table, tea tray and fruit bowl as well as bottled water (both still and sparkling). The bathroom was well-stocked with Penhaligon's toiletries and Crabtree & Evelyn soaps, plenty of towels and bathrobes.

The food was un-faultable, the five course dinner was excellent and the wine list was extremely comprehensive. How refreshing to have "proper" silver-service and to dress for dinner. Afternoon tea, served in the drawing room, was a real treat, delicious home made cakes and a mountain of fresh scones with jam and cream. The breakfast was wonderful too, all you would expect from the breakfast buffet with several additions - I don't think I've ever seen such a huge bowl of clotted cream at the breakfast table before! We ate every night in the formal dining room but there is also the more relaxed Quarterdeck restaurant.

After all that food you might want to partake of some exercise. We used the gym, which although small, had a good range of equipment, and as we seemed to be the only residents using the gym, we never had to wait our turn! There is a small indoor pool as well as a steam room and sauna which never seemed to be busy. The indoor pool has a current you can turn on for exercise. Outside the pool is larger and heated to a very comfy temperature. My only complaint is that the outside pool is overlooked by the terrace of the Quarterdeck restaurant so it's not the place for quiet sunbathing. The best bit has to be the hot tub with fabulous views over Carne beach - wonderful.

There is also an all-weather tennis court and a croquet lawn, complete with rules, so plenty to do.

I would highly recommend the Nare Hotel, yes, it is expensive, but it is also very luxurious and I do think you get what you pay for.

A special birthday deserves a special place to stay, and we returned to the Nare for a few days, confident that we would be well looked after. A wonderful room looked out over the water, a private terrace beckoned us outside. The bathroom was very suitable for my husband's slight disability, with rails in sensible places.
The spa in which we had 3 treatments was excellent, it is wise to prebook appointments. The two pools are fine, and there is a small gym.
The restaurants are both lovely in different ways. Yes, men do wear a jacket in the evening in the main dining room, and very nice it looks too. Not stuffy, just elegant, and a complement to ladies who have dressed up a bit more than usual perhaps. The Quarterdeck restaurant is less formal with lighter meals of excellent standard.
Luxury hotel? Yes, but far more than that. The Nare recognises the individual, it takes note of needs and wishes, it anticipates one's requirements. The staff are always quietly at hand, nothing is too much trouble for any of them, whatever nationality.
For us it was the perfect stay.
