“A Wonderful Stay”

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of spending a wonderful night and morning with Hugh and Deborah in their historic home in Merrickville. The food was to die for and the hospitality unparalleled. Highly recommended if you would like to treat yourself to a fabulous getaway!!

Room Tip: The room with the jacuzzi tub is excellent!

I have recently been blessed with 2 opportunities to stay at Millisle and I can hardly wait until my next visit. The stellar hospitality and superb food provided by Hugh and Deborah was so very appreciated and enjoyed.
My room was beautiful and so totally comfortable. The sheets are high quality and smell good, the towels are thick and absorbent and plentiful. The old fashioned claw foot tub is large and deep so I was able to sink up to my nose for a lovely soak at the end of the day. The luxury mattress was very comfortable.
My room had a variety of lighting options to match any mood, as well as an electric fireplace.
The house is a beautiful old turn of the century mansion that has been lovingly maintained/restored and authentically furnished with beautiful antiques. The kitchen is literally a chef's dream!
I have been totally spoiled by breakfasting on the gorgeous covered veranda on four morning, sometimes in sun and sometimes in rain, all equally delightful. The lovely table linens, and silver flat wear set the stage for the beautifully presented and absolutely sumptuous food. Don't miss this gem!!
I'm inventing reasons to be in the area so I can stay here.....

My wife and I recently traveled to the historic town of Merrickville for a brief respite from city life. We stayed at the Millisle Bed and Breakfast operated by Hugh and Deborah, where we were treated like royalty. Our stay in their nineteenth century house was the highlight of our weekend, which is telling, given the charm and quaintness of Merrickville. The service was impeccable, the food was delectable, and our stay was unbeatable. We hope to return in the not-too-distant future and recommend this cozy B and B to anyone and everyone.

We met our friends here to celebrate a birthday together, and arrived to a warm welcome and a tour of each other's suites. We had the Empire room, complete with Victorian wallpaper, gorgeous antiques, a cozy turret area with 2 chairs to sit & read or watch the view, and a huge ensuite bathroom with a blue tiled Jacuzzi, pine floors, tiled shower and large vanity. Our friend's room was the Georgian room, a bit larger room with amazing antiques, poster bed, bathroom next door with tile floors and Jacuzzi, and a bonus cozy sitting room with a small TV and movies. All lovely, and very comfy beds.

We were welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine served by Hugh the owner, nice touch, in the downstairs parlour.

Debra, the other owner, is also a chef, & we had arranged for the 4 of us to have dinner there, in their large formal dining room. Debra had emailed us lots of menus, & we picked pieces of a few to put our perfect dinner together for a birthday celebration.

When we came down before dinner, Hugh brought in a silver tray & served us our wine that we had brought, in front of a cozy fire. Nice touch, and so nice not to have to go out at all.
When Debra had everything ready for us, the aromas smelled delicious, we were invited to the table, laid with a crisp white cloth, silver candlesticks, and the best silver & crystal.
Everything was delicious -- the grilled shrimp with lime & cilantro with aioli sauce, crab cakes with sweet & spicy ginger sauce, lime mojito sorbet, beef tenderloin cooked to order with Cabernet Sauvignon sauce, garlic mashed, asparagus spears, and sweet corn timbales. Rounded off with beggar's purse pastry stuffed with apple, pear, banana with warm brandy sauce.

Debra's food was as amazing as it sounds, so delicious and beautifully presented, and Hugh served everything with professional pace, humour, and served all of our wine that we had brought as well. Fine dining at its best, and as good as the best restaurant as well.

Breakfast the next morning was just as wonderful, as we were joined by the other couple staying that night at the Inn. Four choices for main courses were offered -- scrambled eggs with Gruyere, frittata with peppers and cheese, poached eggs with thick bacon, or scrambled eggs topped with sautéed salmon filet. Breakfast started with a fresh fruit cup, and home made warm scones, with a variety of delicious home made preserves. We all sat & chatted over our coffee and didn't want to leave.

We were all given first class service, beautiful old home filled with lovely antiques, and the bonus was the wonderful dinner and food. Gluten-free breads and scones were also made for one of our group, such a nice extra. This was a perfect getaway and we all can't wait go back again.
Highly recommended.

I recently held a birthday party including my family and friends and we had a fabulous time. The warmth and hospitality exceeded my expectations and we will treasure this time forever.
We had a meal chosen from the menus suggested that was delicious and Debra's presentation
was superb. Drinks before and after by the fire added to the ambiance of the whole experience.

We stayed for 3 nights in Jan/Feb 2014. From the warm welcome to the inviting fire, the complimentary wine, and stimulating conversation, our extended weekend was one we would highly recommend. We loved the ambiance. Food preparation and presentation was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Just returned from another fantastic stay at this exceptional B&B. It has been seven years that Debra and Hugh have hosted our "girls weekend" visits and we look forward to each stay with great anticipation. From the moment we arrive, Hugh and Debra greet us like old friends and we know we are in good hands. The parlor has a warm wood fireplace and is great gathering place for our before supper glass of wine. The suppers are fantastic 5-star meals that Debra has prepared with great care and the breakfasts are a real treat ( the scones, the scones!!), The country decorated bedrooms all have very comfortable beds and have either soaking baths or showers. The B&B is close to cross country trails and is a 5 minute walk to some great shops. As a girls weekend getaway, each stay has been a relaxing treat that we look forward to all year and we'll be back again next year!
