We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Grand Mercure Bowral and thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are glad that you found the apartment had everything you could want, together with the close proximity to shops, restaurants and hotels.
We did a vacation exchange for a one bedroom. We found it helpful that other TA members have highlighted this in their postings and in turn want to include this in our review that the reception is on basically office hours. However, they are very responsive and helpful, and if you are arriving after hours, would have your key available in the drop box on the pillar outside the office entrance. In our email exchanges, they also include their cell phone contacts, so you know you are in good hands. Our vacation exchange materials made no mention of this at all. We only knew this when we checked on TA!
The vacation apartments as mentioned by other TA members, are a part of a residential complex. Not quite a gated community, the apartment is at the end of the compound. So, we would share the gym and pool with the residents.
However, we have our own carpark which is next to the building. The building is two storeys high but built on a slope. Which means the building is split level, and goes down in 4 sections. For us at 205 on the 2nd floor meant going up two flights to the 2nd storey, and also going down two flights to the 3rd section. Looking at the emergency floor plan, I believe the 2 bedrooms are at the 4th section. So if you are on a 2-bedder on the 2nd floor, that would mean going up 2 flights and then going down 3 flights! But they are short flights, about 6-8 steps.
The apartment is in good working order, and has clean modern lines. Our boys had the sofa bed and they found it comfortable enough. The one bedroom has sliding doors which meet at a corner. That meant you could slide in the doors and have an open concept or slide shut the bedroom doors.
There is a full kitchen with sufficient but basic equipment. There is a dish-washer. And the laundry washer and dryer is cunningly hidden in the toilet.
For 4 of us, we found the one-bedroom a little cramped. In that, there was not sufficient cupboard space for our groceries for 4 people. The counter space was limited. And the only other surface area was the dining table. There are no other shelves or cupboards in the living area.
Similarly, our two boys lived out of their suitcases as, in the bedroom, there was only one cupboard and two clothes drawers and one other cupboard above the bedroom TV. But having said that, the living room was big enough to have the boys's suitcases on the floor and we were not tripping over them. Also, when we had both TVs on, and the sliding doors of the bedroom open, we could still listen to what we were watching and there was no competing noise.
Internet access is expensive. The strange thing is, if you connected your laptop to the internet port using the provided cable, you would receive an option for a 3-day package ($50). However, if you are on a wireless device, eg MacBook, you would only receive the 1-day option ($30). So if being connected is important to you, please bring a wired device in order to get the 3 day option! After you receive the login code, and after you turn off your wired device, you can connect your wireless device using the login code (the connection is for per device). Do note that the speed of your connectivity slows down significantly once you are about 30-40% into your allotted Mbytes. This is my only gripe. We were in Novotel before Bowral, and by comparison, the internet was cheaper. And last year, when we were in Melbourne in a holiday house, the owner provided a Telstra memory stick. Which was also cheaper and didn't have that slow down effect once we were part-way into the allotted memory. Perhaps the other TA members did not mention this because they all had their own Telstra plans!
The location is convenient because we are close to town. You could walk to town, but we drove most of the time. There is an IGA, Coles, Woolsworth, also Aldi. Across the road is Biota. We did not try that. Lots of dining options in Bowral, Berrima, Mittagong, etc.
We had a lovely time.
Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Grand Mercure Bowral. We are pleased that your family enjoyed their stay in the one bedroom apartment and appreciated the kitchen and laundry facilities. We also thank you for your feedback regarding cupboard space & internet connectivity. We hope you can all return in the future.
Stayed 3 nights for business in a studio apartment. Everything about this place was sensational and high quality. A beautiful roomy and funky almost new apartment set within a semi residential condo. The best thing was the beautiful warm indoor pool and gym. And the setting is very close to the main part of the town. The only negative was that I was on the first floor and there were no lifts so I had to lug my gear up two flights of stairs but everything else about this place was fantastic. Easy free onsite outdoor parking too. I would have returned many times but have never been able to get the same cheap deal. i think I was lucky. If you can afford the normal rates it's worth it but my work doesn't pay those sort of rates so I haven't been back for a while. So peaceful, quiet and luxurious
Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Grand Mercure Bowral for your stay in September 2013. We are pleased that you found everything about the property sensational and high quality. Hopefully, we'll be able to welcome you back.
My wife and I spent a weekend in a studio apartment last week. We felt the property could have been better signposted from the outside so that we didn't have to drive past it twice before we spotted it.
The unit we were allocated was adequately fitted and furnished, and the kitchenette was sufficient for simple meals. The room itself was quite spacious and it didn't feel cramped. In terms of location, the Grand Mercure Bowral was just a short stroll from the town center although we drove out each time instead.
What we didn't enjoy was the proximity of our unit to the main road, and it was quite noisy during the day right up to the evening time. The aircon didn't work well which necessitated opening the window for ventilation, and that's when the noise of traffic was very evident.
What surprised us was the uncomfortable bed. It was 2 separate beds joined up but because they didn't line up tightly, we could feel the ridges of the beds. We ended up being conscious that we had to remain relatively still on our individual sides to avoid feeling the edges of the beds. We had been to several Accor properties (being members) but had not experienced this level of discomfort.
We also had a leaking kettle which tripped the power circuit in our room. After a call to Reception (had to wait till 9AM before someone was in attendance), a replacement kettle was promptly sent to us.
We wanted a short getaway from the stresses of work, and didn't allow all of this to dampen our time there, so we still had a relaxing time, although we're in two minds about returning.
Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Grand Mercure Bowral. We apologise for the difficulty in finding the property. This is perhaps due to our "discrete" signage on the main road which we hope will be addressed with our rebrand. Unfortunately, with the air conditioning system it is necessary to anticipate weather conditions to reset the system manually. This can be difficult particularly during Spring and Summer.
We appreciate all your feedback & will endeavour to rectify these issues soon. We do hope you can return.
Our apartment was spacious and well maintained. The Mercure is part of a larger property which is impeccably presented. The rooms are starting to slightly show their age, but a good option in Bowral. Reception was very helpful, though reception hours are limited. I would stay there again.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Grand Mercure Bowral & the assistance of the staff. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
