After reading the posts on this site we visited Briars knowing that this was a motel style accommodation. We paid $120 for a night and had we held our nerve could have paid the last minute cost of $99. For this tariff having a king room in a peaceful location with a full breakfast thrown in was perfect. Sure, if you paid more then you would have cause to complain as the rooms were a little tired, pillows hard, air-conditioning pretty ineffective and we had to spend the first 15 minuets in the room flattening spiders and earwigs.

The rooms are a little larger than motel rooms but in the same genre. The reception staff were very polite and helpful. The Briars is closer to Moss Vale than Bowral but set in the most tranquil setting.

The rooms could have been a little cleaner, bugs attacked/cleaned out and patio swept/windows cleaned of all the cobwebs.... If you are looking for internet, there isn't any unless using their kiosk at a cost.

Don't be fooled into thinking that because of the cost of food on the menu that you are going to get an intimate, table service a-la-carte dining experience. This is pub grub, ordered at the bistro and served to the table with a salad bar to supplement. Food was nice but expensive compared to most food options of this standard. However, the venue is quaint and worth doing with your eyes open..... We wanted to have a stress free finish to a lovely day touring and the onsite pub was a welcome option.

Breakfast, was very much as has been described by others on this site, ok .... especially if you get the wotif deal.

Having said this, we would return as long as the special rates apply - that is....... with a can of Mortein!!

This was a comfortable, clean place to stay, but not quite the romantic and pretty B&B experience that we had hoped for; it's a fair assessment to say that it is really just like staying in a motel room. The restaurant was expensive, and the service and food wasn't great. $31 for pub food/self-service buffet seemed a little steep. If you are in the area, though, definitely go to Fitzroy Falls. It's an amazing and spectacular place to visit.

We enjoyed almost every aspect of our stay at Briars last weekend. It's situated only a few minutes from Bowral in lovely surroundings.

The room size and layout are great, however it would appear that the housekeeping staff are not up to scratch. One couple in our group had 'suspicious' stains all over their bedspread, and we had small stains on ours. After showering on the first evening I grabbed a 'fresh' towel from the rack only to find that it had a large amount of dried snot or mucus in it, obviously from a previous guest! Additionally, on the first night we had a glass of red wine each, and when we returned the next day both glasses had been quickly rinsed and turned upside down near the tv, still showing red wine marks from the night before!

The reception staff were fantastic however and attended to any issues we had immediately and were very embarrassed and apologetic over the bedspreads and towel.

The rest of the hotel is very clean and well looked after, and we enjoyed one dinner and two breakfasts in the restaurant.

At this stage I would not recommend the hotel to a friend, purely based on the cleanliness issues of the rooms. Hotel management need to re-evauate their housekeeping staff because if the rooms were clean and better maintained then it would be a fabulous place for a weekend getaway.

We paid almost 200 $ for a stay in a 80' style motel room. ..
we did not find anyting particularly wrong about this hotel, apart from the price ,which was double the real value of it.

The restaurant was ok , but cold . I would recommend to explore other possibilities in the region.

We were originally booked in to Briars in Bowral from March 2010 for Christmas in July lunch for 4th July at 12pm-2pm in the main room, then we received a phone call asking us if we would like to eat in a private room. We asked if we would have the 'same service' etc...So we agreed.
After travelling all the way from Sydney & the Illawarra to Briars at Bowral for Our annual family Christmas in July (we choose a different venue each year), Upon arriving we were taken to the private room upstairs which did not have tablecloths, telling us that we would have to go down stairs to order & again to receive our food, which they decided to bring up to us.
When we received our entrees, after 1 ½ hours they were cold, main meals were wrong as well as cold, it was well after 2 o’clock when we received them, the waitresses were very rude; one waitress actually came up yelling at us for asking why our meals were taking so long, the children only ordered hamburgers & chips & were starving, but the desserts were nice as well as fast except for the children, who were supposed to get ice-cream & jelly, but they had ran out of jelly so they got flavouring & sprinkles with their ice-cream when they finally got it! Still waiting for our coffee!!!! It was after 4pm when we finished our desserts. Still waiting for our coffee though, that they told us they would bring up.

We actually believe they had forgotten about us! Maybe we would have been better off to have kept our original booking downstairs! We will never be going there again!!!!

Enjoyed our stay here. Good facilities, nice location with the rooms overlooking the gazebo and the lake. Relax by playing tennis or a a game of golf in a nearby golf course. Not the best of pools. A little far from the town centre, but if you have a car its no problem. Overall a relaxing stay.

We stayed at Briars for one night after reading reviews on Trip Advisor, and have to say it did not live up to the reviews that had been written about it.
It's true that Briar's location is fantastic - its about a 3 minute drive into Bowral town centre, and placed perfectly between farmland, so you get that country feel whilst staying there. The grounds of Briars are also beautiful - a lovely lake right outside your rooms back door.

But this is essentially a glorified motel. Which is great, if you like that kind of thing. But I don't. The beds were comfortable, but one of our beds had stains on the sheets. The furnishings are dated and brick walls have just been painted over, not rendered, so it looks a bit sloppy. Security is minimal - the doors dont have inside locks, so anyone with a key to your room could get in - but I suppose it is Bowral, so wasnt too worried about this. The heating in the room was quite good - but make sure to turn the heaters down/off at night as I woke up sweating at 1am.
Breakfast was fairly nice, not a lot of selection but reasonable - had the usual scrambled eggs, fried eggs, toasts, baked beans, hash browns, cereals, juices, some fruit etc.
For what we paid, which I think was $70 for the night, it was worth it - but this is not a 4 star place.
