Biota Rooms

My husband and I recently took advantage of Biota's dine and stay package. We had previously enjoyed the tasting menu on several occasions and were looking for accommodation for a Bowral wedding. Our room was lovely, with chic nordic design. Very warm and cosy for the middle of winter. On the small side, but we weren't staying for long, so that was fine. My only gripe was the bathroom. It was impossible to have a shower without drenching the entire bathroom. This could be easily rectified by the installation of a curtain or shower door. Also given that it was winter, and the shower head quite high they really need shower caps in the bathrooms- would have thought this was fairly standard for accommodation of this calibre. As I had a wedding to go to and was having my hair done, I couldn't get it wet. I had to go buy a shower cap in town. The staff were lovely and attentive, the rooms very clean and modern. They were easy to deal with start to finish and I could definitely recommend staying here- just bring your own shower cap.

We stayed for 1 night and had the dine and stay package for $390 each (see my other review for Biota Dining - disappointing too). Rooms were very small but quite nicely decorated. Two hangers hanging on a coat hook was only place to put clothes. Badly let down by plasticy, motel style bathrooms which were cold (really need shower door too) had no shelving or room on or near the sink to put your belongings, no shower gel and cheap tissues. Family were in the room next door and they complained that their heat lamp bulb was out when we went to dinner but nothing was done about it.

Shame, because it looks promising from the outside, but just needs a few obvious comforts...

Stayed one night with two other couples at Biota. Our package included a degustation dinner, was looking forward to that. However was very disappointed. As I don't eat meat or chicken, the menu was a real let down. I felt it was expensive for what you got and did not cater for vegetarians.
The decor and ambiance is lovely in the hotel and restaurant, however the rooms are plain and there are no cupboards for clothes,or shelves in the bathroom. So everything had to be on the floor or on the chair.
I felt that it was overpriced for what you got.

Room Tip: All rooms face the driveway and have no view. Rooms are small and very plain.

The room we had was nice - decorated in a style we like (minimalist), and benefitted from being 10 metres from the restaurant which meant we could stumble back after the meal. However I do think they're over-priced for what they are, and suffer a bit from comparison to the rather nice restaurant setting.
In the room itself there was only 1 chair which left the other person perching on the bed if they wanted to sit down, and no where to put clothes (we stayed for 2 nights). The room itself was nice and warm on arrival (much appreciated), and had tea and coffee making facilities, free wifi and a tv. The bed felt as if the padding had gone out of it - it wasn't hard, but nor was it soft.
The real downside though was the bathroom, which whilst large enough wasn't very well designed (you have to squeeze around the sink to get to the loo, even though there's plenty of room for the sink to be placed elsewhere). And the grout in and around the shower was pretty disgusting - either needs a lot of bleach or to be replaced. Shower had to be allowed to run for a good couple of minutes at full bore before the hot water comes out.
The addition of the board walk outside isn't great for sleep quality - as you listen to every suitcase being wheeled and high heels tottering over it.
So I felt it was over-priced for what was on offer.

Room Tip: 1 & 3 look over a little garden which is nice (as opposed to the car park).

We stayed one night in Biota Rooms as part of the stay and dine package. I understand that Biota took over the existing motel that adjoined the restaurant. The rooms are not luxurious, but they are excellent value and Biota have decorated and furnished them beautifully and tastefully in a minimal fashion (almost Scandinavian in style) - see my photos and the photos on the booking sites to get an idea. The rooms are simple and quite small - our room had a comfy queen bed, table, small bar fridge, coffee/tea facilities, chair, quite a large bathroom (comparatively) and limited hanging space. The bathrooms are probably in need of a renovation as the shower and vanity etc seemed quite dated, but everything was in perfect working order. I was a little worried that the room would be chilly as the corridor to the room was very drafty, but the heating worked effectively. It was so convenient to just wander up to the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and walk back after an absolutely incredible degustation - the restaurant is simply marvellous!!! The rooms are clean and simple, and the furnishing which we thought was really tasteful might not be to everyone's taste, but Biota Rooms doesn't claim to be 5 star (rather, 3.5 star), so as long as you adjust expectations I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay - we certainly did! As I've said, the food at Biota Dining is simply incredible so we were very pleased to have only a short contented walk to bed after our long and delicious meal.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 10, furthest away from the dining rooms which was quite secluded (not much of a vi...

We stayed in room 5 mid week on a stay and dinner offer. The room was was adequate for a 1 night stay especially after a fantastic dinner including many wines from the local area. The short walk from the restaurant to the room was a real blessing. The bed was comfortable and warm and the shower nice and hot. However the bathroom is in need of a renovation and there is not much space to place toiletries and change clothes. We were a little surprised the rooms don't make the most of the areas cottage industries with toiletries ( hand made soaps) it would make it a little more special.
All the staff were very welcoming and professional and our 1 night dinner and accommodation was very good value. We will do it again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back (room 5) to ensure no noise from the car park and road.

Biota Dining bought The Manning Hotel and branded it Biota Dining and Rooms. The hotel adjoins the fabulous two hat Biota Dining restaurant and so makes a perfect location to flop for the night after enjoying one of Biota's famous degustation or á la carte dining experiences. The facade of the hotel has been redesigned to align with the themes and colours of the restaurant. Inside, the rooms are much as they were - small but clean, good lighting, small bar fridge with freezer, complimentary milk and selection of black and herbal teas. The TV is flat screen and mounted high on the wall to make viewing from the comfy beds easy, and there is Austar/Foxtel. The bathrooms have a large walk-in shower, and complimentary liquid body soap/shampoo. We stayed mid-week when Biota offer a Thursday night only special promotion - $300 for two people including five course degustation and one night accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our third visit to this restaurant and our second at this hotel. Well worth it !

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the veggie gardens at the back if you wish a quieter option.
