Dear daygone,

Many thanks for your glowing review of our High Tea service. We are very proud of the service we provide in this area. We were also glad to see that you appreciated the grounds of Peppers Craigieburn and the lovely warm lounge environment.

We look forward to seeing you back in the lounges again soon.

My husband and I with about 70 other people from our car club attended this hotel for a lovely Champagne High Tea. This was a great success. Food & Beverage Manager delightful gentleman. So we had made a decision to stay the night. The grounds were beautiful and the exterior of the hotel extremely inviting. I had read the brief on the hotel and the accommodation, decided not to book the Elms Wing as I am not fond of older style rooms. So booked Morton Wing which looked a little more modern. Checked in to find we had been "upgraded" to a balcony room. Didn't think much more about the change until we began climbing up a multitude of stairs in the older part of the hotel. What a surprise when we entered the room and nearly fell over the King Bed, small, and certainly not what expected, the reason I originally booked the Morton Wing. This was the first disappointment. Left and spent time in Bowral town, arrived back at the hotel about 6pm and decided to book the Montfort's restaurant for dinner for 7.30pm. The second disappointment. Arrived at 7.30pm to firstly be told they could not find our booking. After sorting that problem we sat down about 7.45pm. Sat at a table that rocked, waitress came to take our wine and meal order. She never returned. We asked a passing waiter at 8.10pm what had happened to our wine. "Forgot". Still waiting for our meal, 8.30pm meal arrived. Mine being Barramundi, so looking forward to this wonderful meal after all the write up about a great chef and restaurant. "Stone Cold". By this time we had enough. Saw the gentleman who was the Food & Beverage Manager we had spoken to earlier in the day, he said they were short staffed. No excuse.. My family are in the hospitality industry and have been for years, this is totally unacceptable. If you are going to advertise a boutique hotel with a class restaurant, you should live up to the brief. It was way overpriced for accommodation & restaurant food, even more so than 5 star restaurants, problems should be solved at time of complaint. The guest should be giving positive feedback, not spend time writing all these negatives. We would possibly return for the High Tea but never again would I stay, or even eat in this so called top class restaurant. Suggest Peppers Craigieburn lift their game.

Dear Jenny F,

Many thanks for the review of your Peppers Craigieburn experience. Whilst your first impression was an extremely positive one, it sounds like it went downhill afterwards, for which we do sincerely apologise. The experience you received during the high tea was level that we aim for and we are sorry that this level of service was unable to be continued, as with your room allocation.

I can assure you that we are dedicated to lifting the standard of service in our Food and Beverage department and we do hope that we get the opportunity in the future to prove this to you.

Kind regards
Sally Phipps

Peppers Craigieburn is a beautiful old hotel. The hotel lounge and restaurant area is gorgeous and I could sit in front of the fire all day. The two lounge room areas are very large in proportion and very high ceiling adding to the grandeur of the room. The restaurant food was sensational. We had a Christmas in July package and it came with 2 courses of which you could choose which combination you wished. The food was outstanding and the breakfast buffet one the most extensive I have experienced. Not only was there a large amount of food at the buffet but it was all well presented and well stocked. We seemed to be the last to come to breakfast yet there was plenty available.

Beware this is an old hotel (beautifully redecorated thought) but with small rooms. We had an Elms balcony room in the main hotel. The balcony was shared but with lounge chairs outside to enjoy the sun. Lovely views. The floors are very creaky which I felt added to the charm of the old building. The rooms heating was worked well, tea & coffee facilities were nice, foxtel on tv, lovely bathroom.

My only negative comment is on the decoration, the wing that goes to the hotel & spa area and conference facilities had new floorboards and I felt they were not in keeping of the charm of this hotel. They really should have continued the carpet all the way through in keeping with the style of the hotel. The carpet going up the stairs in the main part of the hotel probably should be recarpeted and the walls are quite dark in the main hall way.

All in all a lovely experience though.

I used to stay in this hotel 30 years ago for family holidays and it bought back many happy memories.

Lovely hotel, great service and beautiful food.

Dear Katalinbrisbane,

Thank you so much for your review of Peppers Craigieburn. We are so glad to read that your experience was a nice trip down memory lane for you. Whilst I am sure there have been changes in the last 30 years, it was also nice to read that Craigieburn maintains it's charm. Thank you also for your glowing comments in regards to our Christmas in July package, I have certainly passed on your feedback to our Executive Chef.

Many thanks again and we do look forward to welcoming you again to add to your Peppers memories.

We stayed as a couple with a young child, no assistance was offered to help with luggage which would have made things easier, and there was no towel provided for our child. The old house is beautiful and as a horticulturist I can say that the grounds are IMMACULATE. The staff were friendly, though the restaurant manager made a big deal of serving us dessert from the menu in the lounge like he was doing us a huge favour. We ate basically all meals in Bowral itself as the food and venues there are excellent!! We felt the room was fine, though overpriced, and the bathroom was small. Overall, it was nice once, but not somewhere I would perennially visit.

The setting was lovely and the hotel had a lovely cosy feel but the rooms were on the small side, there is no gym and the restaurant staff weren't consistently friendly / helpful.
Having said that, there were lots of roaring fires, the freshly baked cakes, scones and biscuits were delicious and there is certainly some old-world charm about this establishment.
