Clean rooms, bathrooms and kitchen! Nice spacious communal area with book exchange and TV! Free wifi and you can use the laptops in reception. It's a 15/20 min walk to town, but there is a free shuttle bus and you can hire free bikes! There were free pancakes for breakfast which were amazing! Would recommend !

We stay here over Easter as this backpackers is right on the bus route for the Byron Bay Blues Fest. If you are only there to sleep then it meets all your needs as the private rooms are clean and the Pool is fine for a quick dip in the mornings.

Great hostel, Great staff!!! Stayed here for 3 weeks, it was very chilled out, with a nice pool area, and plenty of hammocks. Kitchen was cleaned 3 times a day, and the rooms every morning. It is a 15min walk from town, with a regular complimentary bus to and from town, as well as free bikes! Will definitely be back!

The person i booked this hostel from said all this great stuff so i was qute happy to stay there. The staff were nice and friendly but the swimming pool was Green and dirty. The kitchen was small and okay. The bathroom, well the toilets didn't lock, one of the showers was broken and others the pressure was minmal. My dorm was filthy. I can understand that people live there but i waslkeed in and stuff was everywere, it smelt and the floor was disgusting. I went out and came back and found ANTS in my stuff. Not sure were they came from but it was horrible, had to chuck all my fruit away and some of my food as they had ants in them. I was here for 3 nights so i had to keep all my stuff on my bed and it was horrible. The people that lived there weren't at all helpful.

Room Tip: Stay somewere else

I really didn't enjoy my stay here, we booked a double with shared bathroom for 3 nights. The room felt really dirty, linen was shabby, really dark and dingy!!! The toilets and showers were dirty. Good having a fridge in the room though, although the top of it was black with dirt.

The reception staff were helpful and nice however, there are many people staying at the hostel long term. A lot tended to laze around all day sleeping on sofas in common areas etc so no one else could sit down, felt a bit intimidating and very unwelcoming to a short term traveller.

Kitchen was always super busy, it was cleanish but lots of pots and food scraps lying around during the day.

The pool wasn't clean, couldn't go in and there's not much room to sunlounge around it, bit pointless having it if there not going to keep on top of it. Big shame because it could be a lovely place if it were looked after.

The location was ok, walk into town bout 15 mins, the shuttle bus was good but usually late ... The driver was asleep on the sofa when we were due to depart!!!!! Not good when u have a bus to catch!!!!!

Cape byron is a lovely place to stay, room was nice and outside area cool and chilled. Not too far to walk into town either, nice walk on a quiet road, plus the hostel isn't noisy. I want to compliment Adam the bus driver, he was very friendly and helpful at all time unlike some other who were rude and miserable doing their job!! Don't know his name unfortunately! He never helped or smiled at guests, not even stood out of the bus to greet guests, he slept in the bus while waiting!!!! Overall a nice place to be though, would defo go back. Thankyou.

I stayed at cape byron lodge for quite some time during my stay in australia. I was only intending to stay for a couple weeks at most in Byron, but it was because of Cape Byron Lodge that I ended up staying for a few months!! Martin, Belinda, and Shane are so wonderful in welcoming every traveller to the hostel and are very easy going and helpful with any needs you may have. Martin in particular (the owner) does such a great job at making everyone feel welcome and he actively participates in hostel activities, going out, and getting to know the people that stay at his hostel which I think is very rare for a hostel owner. I have never seen this at any other hostel I have been at. There are a few long termers that stay here and most of them are working for accomodation like I was! The location is a bit outside the town but honestly it is not that bad!!!! It is about a 10 minute walk into the beginning of town and there is a shuttle bus that goes in to town almost every half hour! So if your too lazy to walk to town, wait for the shuttle! Simple. There is a nearby beach though, tallows beach, which if you ask the front desk they will be more than happy to show you how to get there. It is about a 5 minute walk from the hostel and is definitely a less busier beach. The waves are bigger though and the undercurrent can get a bit strong at times so just be careful. And for surfing it is definitely not for the faint at heart, this beach is for more experienced surfers so if you just wanna go watch I'd definitely recommend it but if your a beginner looking to ride some easy waves I'd suggest maybe Wategos beach which is also a locals beach. Anyway, back to the hostel. It is definitely one of the most cleanliest I have been at. They have staff that clean the kitchen twice a day, as well as the bathrooms, the rooms, the pool and the grounds at least every day. There are bikes for hire that are free and you can also rent a surfboard. The common area is very cosy and there is a ping pong table just outside of that. There is a lot of artwork on the walls from travellers passing through and if you are an artist the owner may even offer you some free accom in exchange for your artwork... ;) don't quote me on that though. Lol. Overall, I think the thing that makes Cape Byron Lodge the most memorable I have ever been at is definitely the owners and the staff that work there that go completely out of their way to make everyone have the best experience and in turn create a very positive and enjoyable atmosphere for any traveller staying there. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here, you will not regret! Although one tip... Avoid the owner in the mornings if you can, he can get a bit grumpy... Hehe, love you Martin! Xxxx vbomb
